With Hammond committed (but not signed), who do we have left?  Is it necessary to sign another big guy now or would it be wise pursue another Pitchford-like stretch forward?  What about a true point guard to play with Tai?  How about a shooter?

It seems like we have a lot of remaining options.  However, I think we should NOT pursue any more JUCO's unless the player takes us over the hump or a position of need suddenly develops.

Some of the remaining high school guys include: Leon Gilmore, Jonah Bolden and Torry Miller (please let me know if I am missing anyone else).

The Miller/Miles relationship has lasted a long time; however, the question remains why he has not committed.  Is the offer only contingent?  Is there an issue with qualification?  Or is he holding out for something better?

Gilmore seems to be ready, willing and able to visit Nebraska at any time.  However, I find it interesting that the coaching staff has not scheduled a visit yet.  Could it be that Gilmore is option B or C?

Bolden seems to be the most intriguing.  I have not reviewed any video but I get the impression he could both bang around the hoop or step outside and shoot.  If that is the case, he would be my top pick.  However, it is not clear his level of interest with Nebraska.  I think it would be unfair to compare him to Webster as Tai's father seemingly heavily pushed Nebraska.  Conversely, Bolden seems to be exploring his options, and Nebraska is a definite consideration due to his father's relationship with Harriman.  Would it be worth the wait to slow-play, and potentially lose, Gilmore and/or Miller to hold out for Bolden?

Just a few of my thoughts.  Kind of a nice position to be in nonetheless.

We are in a bind with only having 1 spot open right now.

I think we should take the best available player regardless of position. Gilmore is the highest rated, but bolden seems to be rising the fastest.

David wacker is one of the recruits you forgot to list.

This is correct. He has stated that he wants 2 bigs. It has also been stated that it is expected that we will over sign and take 3 commits. I have yet to add the last couple recruits to the database but they have been guards, one was even a JUCO I believe. If you are planning to over sign and take 3 then maybe you take the best player available no matter the position for the 2nd spot. Then leave that 3rd 'spot' for a guy like Jonah Bolden. That way you don't get burned too bad and miss out on a highly rated recruit trying to slow play for a Bolden.

Miller, Gilmore, and Bolden are the three I think we should hone in on, at least from the names that have been mentioned so far.  I like our chances with Miller and Gilmore, Bolden is a long shot but i think Harriman could pull it off if a few things go our way (ie some of the bigger programs inquiring fill up).  If 2 (or somehow 3) of those guys want to commit, you find a way to make room IMO.

i like the plan of nailing down and getting a commit from Gilmore and allowing the potential third scholorship (likely parker) to get Bolden that would give us a really nice looking roster

With another big, "wacker" I see vooch heading out about as much as Benny. You think that would be used as a late addition for 2014 or 15?

i cant see vooch walking he seems like he likes it here, and to be honest i think he's about to make some waves this year in limited action, Benny tho may get lost in the shuffle(and i like benny) as Tai, Ray, Petteway, Biggs can all handle the ball, he is to small to be a 2 guard and with Hawkins, and Fuller here as well i just dont see a lot of playing time in 2014 depends if he wants to stick it out and fight for PT in 2015. ive always been of the mindset you hold on to 7 footers you can always ask peltz or other walk on guards to contribute what benny brings to the table with possible better results.

I do not think Benny is going anywhere.  Miles asked him to come here and I think Benny likes it here.  He knows what his role is and that he will have to fight for PT, and he chose to stay.

This is true, but I don't think staying here was that tough of a decision for Benny.  Stay at a school in the Big Ten with great facilities, academic support, training table, etc while learning under a great coaching staff or transfer to low D1 with none of those amenities.

I think Benny HAS to make an impact this season if he wants Miles to honor his scholarship going forward (also depending on if we take an extra recruit).  I hope he turns it around because he seems like a good kid and like you said, seems to enjoy it here and get along with his teammates.

Regardless, if we do over sign it will be a tough cut to make.  Both Benny and Vucetic seem to really enjoy it here and don't take it for granted which isn't always the case for our athletes

Both were Freshman think we should give each of them at least another year before we throw them under the bus.

Totally agree with that, I'm glad Miles didn't reach in last year's class just for the sake of filling a spot.  Let the freshmen develop and see if they turn into useful pieces.

That said, if a Leon Gilmore or Jonah Bolden want to commit and we're already at 2, you don't say no.  Take 3 guys and there will be a battle for the final roster spot next season.

you missed the point...you cant keep benny on if dosnt improve this season which i hope he does, as i like his defense. But if he dosnt you keeping a guy on schollie that is 5'8'' maybe, dosnt have much of a offensive game and is log jammed at guard for mintues. by potentially wasting the schollie and not giving it to a big foward or bigger guard, when you could just as easily release benny should he not improve and give those mintues to lets say peltz or another walk on who isnt taking up roster space and can contribute something simliar to what benny gives. I like benny but if his offensive game dosnt improve were playing 4 on 5 whenever he is on the court because no team respects his outside jumper.

whether benny improves or not, i think he's the odd man out. He isn't going to get much of a chance with Biggs and Webster on the roster.

Vucetic seems more likely to stay given that 7'1 players don't come around very often, and big men take longer to develop.

I understood your point, just after reading about Peltz before last year, well I bought into the hype and was very disappointed.

peltz was a bad example really im saying if benny stays what he is we just 5-8 min of a guy who plays pesky defense and for bonus points can hit a open jumper..maybe this preferred walk on can be that guy in the future.

Anyone see the Hammond article in the OWH? No mention of him being a top 150 recruit, only mentions Texas Tech as having offered, and failed to list UCLA (or any other decent teams, less Witchita St) as showing interest. If I had only read that article, I would've been very unimpressed and thought this was a ho-hum get, similar to what we've seen in recent years.

You were unimpressed by a walk-on that everyone knew before the season required knee surgery but played through it because they didnt have enough players?  Well when you read that sentence I just wrote again I would hope you were.  I hope you werent expecting a lot from him.  The guy was going to a D-2 school before walking on to Nebraska.  Hes a good ball handler but thats about it.  I think if he'd been healthy you would have seen a better side of him but to think he'd be a huge part of the time is just going in with rose colored glasses.

Peltz is the team bro.

He does the dirty work that other with more talent can't do.

He takes a charge, fouls somebody hard, plays somebody physical who doesn't like it.

Basically he gets under the skin of the other team.

And we love it, if he was another school we would want him dead, but, every team needs that guy.

I think that Wacker could also be that kid.  He is a coaches son and grandson so he knows what needs to be done.

I agree that he will/should be option 3or so.  But we do need that GUY to take us to the next level.
