Webster enrolled

Incoming freshman point guard Tai Webster is enrolled for the second session of summer classes, Miles said Tuesday.

Webster, a highly-touted recruit from New Zealand, will arrive in Lincoln July 13 and begin classes July 15.

He recently met a qualifying score on his SAT -- a major step in Webster gaining NCAA clearance -- but has not yet been officially cleared by the NCAA.

“I’m optimistic that this is going to get handled appropriately and he’ll be ready to go for us,” Miles said. “It’s just a matter of time. These things take time.”

ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla recently said on his Twitter account that Webster would be a Top 30 player nationally in the 2013 recruiting class, if he was a high school player in the United States.

The other three members of Nebraska's 2013 recruiting class -- freshmen Nick Fuller and Nate Hawkins and junior college transfer Leslee Smith -- are already on campus and taking summer courses.

You guys are setting yourselves up for a hard fall.

I still don't think there is any chance that Tai ever steps on the floor for dear ole' NU.

Do you know or have heard something we have not or are you just being a pessimist?

When it comes to Basketball and getting recruits good to go I have no faith.  I am just being pessimistic.  I really don't want to get my hopes up about Tai.  Sadly I am worried we would be waiting months to hear from the clearinghouse.

In my opinion, Miles would not have come out with any sort of statement, if he thought there was any legit chance that Webster would not be cleared.

First, in an interview on Sports Nightly, Miles said that he was worried about Webster.

Then, Webster "carved" the SAT on his 4th attempt.

Now Miles comes out and makes the statement that he is now very "optimistic" about Webster being cleared and that he is already enrolled in classes and that he will be here on July 13th.

I don't think Miles would come out with a statement like this, if he wasn't sure Webster would make it.  It would be one thing for a media member to make this statement, but the fact that Miles himself made the statement. makes me feel that, based on all of the information that Miles has access to, there is an overwhelmingly high chance that Webster will be here in Lincoln on July 13th.

Being here on July 13th and being cleared are two different thing from what I'm understanding. I may be wrong tho

I can't believe that the University and his parents and coaching staff would have him come to the States and start school if he wasn't okay to start.

I can't think that "we" would pull a Robert Sallie within a five year period.

But who knows?

I know right? But who knows

I was under the impression that Tai would come and enroll and go to classes before being cleared... he just can't play (be coached) with the team until he is cleared.

Just because Miles thinks he will get cleared doesn't mean he will.  And more importantly it doesnt mean he will be cleared by any certain deadline.  It could be weeks or months... who knows.

Until then I will keep the champagne on ice with the cork firmly on.  But I will be the first to spray it everywhere if Tai is cleared.

Gosh, you are a gloomy GUS!

You must subscribe to the "Every day is a shit sandwich" channel.

Because you obviously believe that every day is going to be another bite.

OR              you could be a bluejay fan...yet, I doubt this!

Yet, realize this time I know it will work....

AND I really believe this!

Because this coach came into a place where he was plopped into a 1960's Mini van ...while knowing he would inherit a rocket!

Here is a salute to the juxtaposing of the time and space that is the new wave NU BBall!

ENJOY!

P.S. PimpMario, Once it happens, Please, don't spray on me.

If the NCAA doesn't clear Tai Webster while they gave a gift to Creighton in granting Gibbs a sixth year (where a similar case had never been approved before), I will erupt.

I guess I don't see the connection between the two things.

That is correct.  Also, there is a very large difference between being "optimistic" and being "very optimistic."  I'm fairly certain Miles just said he was "optimistic."  It's certainly more encouraging than his radio interview a couple weeks ago, but at this point it's out of Miles hands.  Our admissions dept and the NCAA are going to have to help us out.
