Watched the game online yesterday. Anytime Janowski got the ball his defender crowded him beyond the arc and they always had 2 or 3 guys waiting for him inside the arc when he put the ball on the floor. Made some nice passes and played good defense. They’re going to the final 4 in Madison. Kon Knueppel’s team will also be there.

Is there a stream and when do they play next.

Semifinal on Friday at 3:30 in the Kohl Center. Championship game would be Saturday. I've watched a handful of their games on Youtube so I'm sure this one will be out there somewhere also.

I didn’t watch the semifinal today but Pewaukee won by 20 against a very good team. Norm is gonna like this Janowski stat line.  31 pts, 10 reb, 10 ast, 1 TO, 2 stl.  They will match up against Kon Knueppel’s team in the championship for a storybook ending to those two’s middle/high school careers. This would be 4 state titles in a row for Pewaukee. Prior to Nick’s freshman year they hadn’t won one ever. Wisconsin high school basketball is the real deal.

Edit: Articles out there say he scored 28 points but the box score I read showed 31. I don’t know, doesn’t matter.

You had me at 31, but 28? I mean, I guess. I suppose it’ll have to do.

I hope he is our PG of the future. Ease him in at both next year and take over after that. I dream of a better 3pt shooting Tyler Kolek.

The difference in PG and SG three point shooting is that the PG often has to create their shot using the dribble and on-ball screens, vs catch and shoot and off-ball screens. A good shooter at one spot isn’t necessarily going to be good at the other.

I haven’t watched enough of his film to know which he excels at, or if he excels at both. If he is much better at one than the other, I hope we don’t try to steer too hard to the other to fill a roster need. We’ve seen that have mixed results with Brice and JLaw this past year.

But I am right there with you, hoping he’s capable and takes the PG spot.

Can someone clarify if NJ is a point guard or if he's a CG/SG

Not to take the easy way out, but I've watched a lot of his film and would describe him as a "basketball player". By that I mean he can probably do anything that we ask him to. The question will be what do we ask him to do. He can run the offense and take guys off the dribble, he can catch and shoot, he can pull up and shoot off the dribble. He can play make. I've seen him posting up down low in some clips.

If I had to guess though, he probably lacks the quickness and burst to be a Big Ten point guard and will start his career as a SG.

I can't contain my excitement for this guy. I think he has a special level of competitiveness and work ethic that is going to make an instant impact. I know this interview has been posted before, but I'm ready to run through a brick wall.

That’s why I hope he ends at the point, from what I’ve seen he can do it all as Ghost pointed out as well. He seems like a guy you just want to have the ball in his hands and will make the right decisions.

Also agree with Ghost on his question about quickness. Not saying it is not good enough but will have to see when he gets on campus. I don’t think it is required though to play the point if you check all the other boxes.

Yeah I should have added while he doesn't look to be the quickest, he seems to have all the intangibles that would allow one to make up for that.

Verge and Cam Mack certainly had quickness and burst.

Griesel, Brice and Jamarques aren't the most impressive athletes but played the point just fine and certainly ran an offense infinitely better than Verge and Mack.

What is sort of different with our PG discussion is that we really don't have a pure PG position.  That may be by accident, but nonetheless, we haven't had a true point guard for the past three seasons.

Whether it is truth or fiction, we seem to run a positionless offense.  We may have a primary ball-handler; but I'm not really sure if that is true.

Our offense seems to flow through different players in different positions at different times.

So should the discussion be can a player adjust to Fred's offense/defense/transition game, or not?

I think both of our incoming players are "flex" players.  They can score and guard all three levels.

We do need a couple more bigs though...and shooters.

I'm not so much concerned as to what position he pays as to the overall development.  He strikes me as a guy who might need a year.  Those types haven't been kind to us.

Curious as to why you think that? If the only reason is that he's a freshman, that's fair. But as far as freshmen go he seems to be pretty well developed and polished. In year 1 he could have a low ceiling, but I think the floor is relatively high. He stopped growing three years ago and does have limited length and athleticism. So he's always relied on his basketball IQ, vision, feel and skill. Those are typically the players that contribute early and stay longer. He did very well in AAU ball against top competition. If he doesn't play much as a freshman I think it'll be because portal recruiting went well and we're just not going to have a rotation that includes more than 8-9 players.

He sounds like a 6th year Covid senior already, he’s gonna be a stud

The limited length and athleticism that you pointed out.  Generally, guys who lack those don't set the world on fire right away.  Doesn't mean that it can't be overcome, but it generally takes time.

Definitely a 2 guard.  He can score at all 3 levels and is extremely crafty with small spaces.  He actually reminds me of Keisei offensively.  He does not have the quickness to play point.

Defensively he’s not going to be able to stay with PGs, but I think he’ll do ok on the wing.  He’s strong and is a willing rebounder.  Also plays with a lot of fire and awareness so I’m guessing he’ll eat up the rotation info.

But no.  If we want another PG outside of Uhlis and maybe JL, we’ll definitely have to recruit one.
