I cannot tolerate men who hit, strike or abuse women. They cannot be leaders of young men in our society.

I think it's safe to say his version of events might be quite different from hers. She admits trying to provoke him. She took his reading glasses and deliberately broke them. And then tried to mollify him by saying she'd buy him a new pair. Which, let's just say, "tone of voice" would matter a lot there. The arrest report makes it sound like "mutual combat." She now says he may have just been trying to defend/protect himself.

I don't think it's either obvious or readily apparent that he "hit" "struck" or "abused" her.

Sometimes people who are emotionally involved get into arguments. Sometimes those arguments can become physical. Sometimes it's the women who start those arguments. And initiate the physical aspect of the confrontation.

By the way, Brittney Griner plead guilty to charges related to domestic violence and she got to keep her job.

The accuser now states Beard might have been acting in self-defense and that she doesn't believe Beard was trying to hurt her.

Texas coach Beard's accuser says he may have acted in self-defense (statesman.com)

Good find as this is why I've been saying you have to wait till all the facts come out.  I'm not here defending violence as think hitting a woman is about as low as you can go but let's not 100% disregard him till all the facts shake out in court.  My whole point was that if he is cleared, I'd 100% take him look at him to be the person to turn NU hoops program around.  If's he guilty, then obviously not.  We still live in a world where you are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty.

Sometimes ppl make up shit, too. So, which was the lie? Her first version or her second?

Both? Neither? Does it really matter? There's hundreds of potential coaches out there who don't have any potential/alleged/retracted domestic violence issues out there. I'd like to exhaust that pool first.

Put another way, Nebrasketball is where successful coaches go to get fired:

Moe Iba

Danny Nee

Barry Collier

Doc Sadler

Tim Miles

Fred Hoiberg?

Firing our way to success has never worked-out for Nebrasketball.  But maybe one more time . . .

Actually both Moe and Barry resigned. But the point remains valid.

Rick Pitino had an assistant hire hookers for recruits, banged his equipment manager's wife at a local restaurant, got her pregnant, paid for her abortion, and he took Iona to the NIT last year.

And those aren't even the reasons he got fired. He got fired for something Greg McDermott tried to do and wasn't fired for.

This is sort of the point.  Rick is a HOF basketball coach who had to spend 3 years in Greece and now coaches at IONA. Yeah he's coaching again but he isn't *back* and might never be.

Assuming he doesn't end up a convicted felon, Beard is going to not coach anywhere for a few years before some low end D-1 or lower school pulls the trigger.

The thing that both coaches have in common is that they sure as shit won't be coaching here.

To wit, why are you bringing up a guy who hasn't even been to court yet?

But here's guessing that Trev Alberts recognizes the positive developments and will give Fred & Co. a vote of confidence of some type at the end of the season (something other than a raise or extension, of course) to help minimize the "hot seat" disadvantage.

There are two outcomes for Fred this season.  He will either get fired from his current renegotiated contract, or he will have satisfied enough of the agreed upon terms to revert to his pre-renegotiated contract, then either retained or fired.

I suppose there could be a third outcome where he and Trev negotiate a new, extended contract at a higher salary and buyout, etc.  But I think the ship has sailed on a season good enough to get to that outcome now.

All I brought up was that if he was cleared, I would take him as our coach at Nebraska.  It's no different than people bring up names on who our next could will be when Fred hasn't even been fired yet.  There is a whole thread on that.

You might want to re-read that post on page 3 as you have Alberts starting or ending the conversation wishing him luck in court

If I were Trev Alberts, I'd be on the phone with Chris Beard now to see if he'd have any interest in coaching at Nebraska should the season finish up without NU reaching any post season yet again?  Unless he ends up in jail, I'd take him to try and turn NU hoops program around.

The way you phrased this was pretty awkward, but if you meant that should Beard be cleared of all charges by the end of the season (probably going to be difficult to get the justice system to move that quickly) we maybe should reach out to gauge his interest...

...problem is, if that type of scenario is even possible, we would be damn near at the end of a very long, and much more attractive, line of suitors eager to employ him.

Does that sum it up?

We’re probably not in the running for the guy from San Jose St.

Based on what @HB said today, there’s a third option: Fred might negotiate a retirement buyout. Sounds like he might have some health issues that have become a problem.

Internet rumors are taken very lightly by me though.  Not saying that's not a possibility, but I'm not gonna put any weight on it right now.

You know, with all the connections Matt Rhule has brought in from Texas, including Susan Elza, hiring a coach from Texas might make sense.  I know they are two different programs, but look how Danny helped T.O. get Donovan McNabb to Lincoln.

Why did you have to go and mention former Viking “Great” Donovan McNabb Cip on today of all days…

Whatever happened to believing all women?
