I'll just throw this out there:

Before "the punch" Juwan Howard was 56-27 (.675) as a head coach at Michigan. Since "the punch" he's 18-15 (.545). And the trajectory is downward. He's .500 over his last ten. Tom Izzo is 68 years old. Ohio State is barely limping along.

Right now, the only team that's clearly better than Rutgers in this conference is Purdue.

Not saying those other teams will fire their coaches and go after Pikiell (though they'd be foolish, if they had a vacancy, not to) but I mean he's ascending at a good time in this league to ascend. And if he wants to stay at Rutgers, he's probably in a good spot to have persistent success there.

I'd be shocked if any Big Ten school goes after another Big Ten school's standing head coach, that's always been off limits...BUT...

Louisville is gonna need a head coach most likely this year.  So is Texas, but they may just roll with their interim guy if they win the Big 12.  Notre Dame is open now.

Other jobs that look likely to open this year or next are Georgetown and Syracuse (but unsure how much either of those schools want a Calhoun guy as their Head Coach).

Kentucky, oddly enough, may be inching closer to a coaching change too.  Don't know how much gas Larranaga has in the tank at Miami and Florida State should be available pretty soon; Hamilton is 74, been at FSU for 20 years now, and fans are super not happy with how this year has been going.

Not sure how much Pike would want to take a stab at the NBA, he seems like a college for life kinda coach.

But I bet Rutgers will do whatever is in their power to keep him around.  They should be getting a full slice of the Big Ten money pie this year or next too so it will be easier for them to do so.

Pikiell's coaching record at Rutgers looks somewhat familiar:

2016–17 Rutgers 15–18 3–15 14th
2017–18 Rutgers 15–19 3–15 14th
2018–19 Rutgers 14–17 7–13 T–10th
2019–20 Rutgers 20–11 11–9 T–5th NCAA Division I Canceled
2020–21 Rutgers 16–12 10–10 T–6th NCAA Division I Round of 32
2021–22 Rutgers 18–14 12–8 T–4th NCAA Division I First Four
2022–23 Rutgers 16–6 8–3

I'm oblivious...familiar to what?

Good for us. I thought the kid was pretty good and would have been pretty goof for them. G'town?

I would think, but if we got involved again you think we'd have a chance since we were one of his top schools

I thought I saw something that he was wanting to go to Georgetown. So, my impression was that he was not simply reopening his recruitment but rather decommitting in order to go to a specific other school.

Very possible. Rumors of big NIL deals, but what does that really mean when we are talking fringe 4 star prospects? If Georgtown wants to back up a Brinks truck then so be it

Some chatter on Reddit that it might be Georgia Tech that's the destination

George Tech

I knew it was one of those Georges.

In fairness, there was a bit of chatter that Georgetown was the destination too.

I love “bab’s” as my friends and I still call it.  The owner to this day still remembers me by my order not my name whenever I’m in town, lol.  “Ah!!!  Spicy z-plate my friend, how are you?”

Ha, he does the same for me even after 30 years. That guy has a memory

They were at Kazu Kabobs when I was in college and then that closed and I lost track of them for about 10 years until I went to a basketball game and saw them where they’re at now.

I walked in and they knew exactly what I wanted!  Stop there as much as I can when I go to Lincoln!

Are you serious? The guy who ran Kuzu's Kebab is still around? His were the best!

I think his name was Abdurahim Kuzu and I think he was a Turkish immigrant who was a wrestler and qualified for the US Olympic wrestling team. From Lincoln!
