We need a power player or two in this recruiting cycle.  Our guard/wing positions seem close to max unless we have transfers, which is certainly a possibility.

Need to be looking to take 2 front court players.   If a guard/wing transfers (which is likely) we can then play the transfer market

Agreed.

Just tracing back through this thing - These might not all be in chronological order

Originally had G'Town, TCU, Nebraska, and Northwestern in his final 4.

He adds Minnesota to his list.

According to G'Town message board they first had him in for an unofficial when it could have been an official...slow playing a bit.

TCU seems full on schollies

Nobody mentioned it/knew but we and Northwestern went and watched him on Sept 14th. That was before anyone had committed for 2019.

We sign MAW and JG, down to two open schollies

Takes an official to Minny

Northwestern signs F Robbie Beran and F Jared Jones

We sign Arop, down to 1 schollie

Sunday, Oct 14 Virginia Tech hosts YG on an official. They have a lot of schollies to fill. He commits 3 days later.

Four thoughts

1. Us backing down because of Arop and having most of our schollies filled ATM seems plausible

2. Even in this time and day does Virginia Tech swooping in and grabbing a guy seems fishy?

3. Seems like a kid that could de-commit if VT recruits over him

4. Georgetown or Minnesota probably could have landed this kid if he was a priority

I go back to my assessment that his style of play reminds me of Jack "8 minutes of Jack" McVeigh.  He's a decent role player on a quality team.  He could be a star on a mediocre team.  He'll never start for a really good team.  He's definitely not the kind of player that would elevate a program.

And this is not sour grapes because I readily admit I would have loved for us to have gotten a commit from Robbie Beran, who I think is really good and would have fit the Isaiah Roby role really well.

I just looked at Georgetown's roster to see how many scholarships they're working on, and it's kind of interesting. Patrick Ewing already has a Turkish kid on the roster, a 3-point specialist grad transfer from William and Mary and this freshman point guard:

I always think of bully ball with Georgetown, kind of ironic that it would be Ewing who moved them away from that. He's a smart guy, paid his dues as an assistant NBA coach, looks like he's seen where the game is going with rough play deemphasized.

This freshman point guard kid, McClung, is freaking unbelievable.  Rivals didn't have him ranked in the top 150 for 2018 and had him ranked as the #49 PG in the class.  What the hell were they watching?  This kid is unreal.  Watch this film and tell me he's not in the top 150.  He's 6'1" doing windmill dunks and two-hand put-back slams.  Freak of nature.  G'town got a steal with this kid.  His next best offer after G'town was like Air Force or Drake.  Offered by Yale, also, so he must be smart.  Good work G'town recruiters.

He broke Allen Iverson's state scoring record.

He's one I'll keep an eye out for this coming season.

I've been following McClung for about a year since my buddy told me to check him out. The kid has awesome highlight videos.

When I first saw Mac McClung's highlight tape, I thought this kid has to be a high-level 4-star, maybe top 50.  I was shocked SHOCKED to see he wasn't ranked.  Rivals was clearly asleep at the switch on this kid.  Unexplainable.

Patrick Ewing wasn't asleep.  Got himself the sleeper steal of this recruiting class.

As you well know, there's more to basketball than highlight dunks. He's 1-17 from 3 this season and has more turnovers than assists. Great athlete, but there's a reason he wasn't ranked more highly than he was. 247 had him at 245.

Glynn Watson started his career off 1-9 from 3.
