I'm starting to have a very good feeling on this

I am having the opposite feeling on this

I was told it's a done deal that he's N.  Not sure what the hold up is though......

Well, you were told wrong.

Meh, I trust my source...it was the same source who confirmed White was visiting over the weekend a day before it was actually announced.  Obviously, something changed White's mind or ours the last few days.

I really thought we had all but locked this kid up as well but I agree that something must have changed in past few days.  Will be interesting if he ends up at anywhere but Oregon now since school as pretty much started at most Universities

So wait...it is a done deal that he is not coming here? Boy, my source had it wrong.

Same here. Probably never know exactly what went down but have to wonder if it was his choice not to come here (because initially he was coming here) or if timing was the problem or if there were other hurdles that stopped this?

so this will officially be the 5th year in a row we leave an open scholarship?

i don't think arop would have ever been more than an 8th or 9th guy, but i would much rather have him on the team than to continue leaving an open spot.

It's not guaranteed that we leave Arop's spot open. Have a long ways to go before fall 2017. I believe another 2017 offer was just announced today.

Tim Miles would be wise to fill out the roster for once next year....not signing a local kid and leaving an open scholarship will garner quite a bit of backlash I would guess.

I also thought he was coming here as well and the amount of Nebraska staff following him on twitter reinforced that.

It's possible someone's mind changed or was never made up in the first place.

It sucks to miss on a recruit. But let's not forget, and we're all guilty of it with this being a message board, that there are so many factors we will never know with each miss. It could simply be a thing where a kid thinks he could get homesick even if he wants to be a part of our team. Or the staff may find something about a player that doesn't fit the team's culture or values. The staff isn't going to bag on a kid, and they legally aren't to talk about recruits, so lots of info is never found out about recruits.

Will be interesting to see how and why this went south, between Saturday and now.  Supposedly he wants to take 4 visits now.

Leebo touched on this as well in his column and brought up Oregon's Sept 26 enrollment deadline.

It's possible we would have landed this kid if our school started at a later date.

I suppose it's not impossible that he just skips a semester and enrolls here but that seems pretty unlikely.

How does that work for a redshirt/transfer year? I know his eligibility clock is running but do you have to be enrolled somewhere for the time to count as your transfer year? Or would he be eligible at the start of 2017 regardless of if he attends class for this fall semester or not? Not like this is even in the realm of possibility but just wondering.

I'm sick of wearing my scarlet colored glasses for Husker hoops and Tim Smiles...tired of it. Five years in a row without a complete roster? WTH? Incompetence at best. How can anyone justify that. I ask ONE person to justify it...just one good reason.

No team goes 13 deep. There's 1.

There were only 12 dishes available at the training table?

This is true but obviously finding an additional guy increases your chances of landing someone who can help you in your 8-10 man rotation.  Or, landing a kid that you develop for down the road.  There is no real good argument for going on 5 years without filling out a roster...especially for a program that has to work extra hard on the recruiting trail to compete with the big boys.  Does anyone really believe that always keeping the 13 scholarship open is say better than offering and signing a kid like Khyri Thomas?  Perhaps this is the year someone comes available midyear and we snatch him.  It almost worked out for us with Elijah Thomas.

It's been pretty headscratching...has seemed like we would have an open scholarship and instead of using it on a 2 year JUCO we figured we had big things coming the next year.  In some regards it's the mindset you want your staff to have...a shoot for the stars mentality. On the other hand how much could we have benefited by having that extra post player or 3 pt shooter?

My least favorite thing about Miles is the scholarship "probation" we've been on.

I hated when Pelini did it; I hate it that Miles does it.

This would be the one complaint I have with Miles.  I know some here say you only have an 8-9 man rotation and I understand that.  However, no offense to any walk-on that spends his time busting his backside to be part of the team, but practicing against a kid like White goes a lot further in development than a kid the starters are clearly better than.
