Man, if recruiting Kevin Durant, TJ Ford and Lamarcus Aldridge isn't enough, getting to a final 4 isn't enough, and if I'm not mistaken 16 NCAA trips in 17 years isn't enough, I'd be pretty careful before taking that job. It's not like they have the history and tradition of Kentucky or Kansas. I guess everything is bigger in Texas.....

A coach, like a doughnut, has a shelf life. It may still look good through the showcase, but if the customer (fan base) has seen the same one long enough it will appear stale. Sometimes it is just better to send it to the day old store where it will be appreciated, and replace it with a cruller. This may work out well like it did for Altman. (Please note, I expect an up arrow from Silverback for this analogy).

You are right. That was a classic win. Unfortunately, we lost the next two in '05...this time we get the sweep! We evened our overall record with them at 31-31. I went to the Texas record book to see if I could find a "most consecutive scoreless innings streak" (since we put together 24 innings). Not very surprising...but I could not find that. I did note that no team that has played the horns 20 times or more has a winning record against them. Only Cal St Fullerton and the Huskers have 50/50 records! It seemed Texas had been down for awhile, and maybe it was time for a change. Barnes seems to be a good coach. He has taken Texas to the NCAA tourney 16 out of 17 years. Nebraska fans would take that. It seems to be like our football team. We fired a coach who went 9-4, 10-4, 10-4, 9-4, 10-4, 9-4, and 9-3. A lot of outsiders look at that as "What the hell are you doing?" Nebraska fans look at it, as "It's just not good enough for our program."

Mike Brey is a good coach, but those last 3 possessions by Notre Dame were awful. Actually, the last 4 possessions were awful (bailed out by a long 3 from Grant). Dribbled the ball at half court, led to an off balance 3 by Grant. Next possession, dribbled the ball at half court, blocked Grant's shot, led to a shot clock violation. Final possession, tried an off balance 3 from the corner. Needed to run offense down the stretch (outside of the final possession)

...it took a while...a long while, but one heck of a win. This Husker team has grit and one heck of a pitching staff. And oh yeah, the defense ain't too bad either
