uneblinstu's postgame chatter: vol 13; ed 20 - vs. Purdue

Some good, some tired legs. Really thought we were going to get more from Thor and Webster this year like we got tonight.

There are times when we look like a competitive team but those are few compared to when we look like we don’t know what we are doing.  The frustration for me, is the same type of play keeps recurring game after game.

long stretches of mental poopsies and confusion, a season long fear of the free throw (It's free! It's gotta be a trick!), and the whole "if the shot misses, you're supposed to go after the ball" thing throwing us for a loop spells "L O S E"

In a middling league, this team wouldn't look this bad. But we're in *this* league, and it's liek you have to be good to even finish out of last place in this damned thing.

NUs gotta a lot of gap to cover still. And it doesn't appear anyone else in the conference is willing to slow down to let us catch up a bit.

Probably an unpopular take but we should be ramping up the minutes on woods and Andre. If we are gonna suck we might as well suck with guys that are gonna be here next year. I think Ivan had a nice game today but he still left probably 8 points around the hoop out there that an average big man converts.

I'm counting nine missed layups in the play-by-play:

    • Walker
    • Stevenson
    • Andre
    • Andre
    • Ouedraogo
    • Mayen
    • McGowens
    • Walker
    • Webster

Other than Teddy, NOBODY finishes at the rim on this team.

On Edit: That's 18 points. We lost by 17.

Every time I watch Roby or JPJ in the NBA or G League, I'm reminded of the great finishers at the rim we once had.

When I had to stop watching, we were tied at 44.  What happened after that?

Just remember the game you watched before.  You don't need to know anything after.  HA!  🤣

I was just thinking dropped passes I wasn’t even thinking about the actual misses

You think Wood will be here next year?

I think I'd add in Petteway, Shavon, & Tai in with the 'Good Finishers' that we had (and they seemed to be able to draw more than their share of 'And Ones.')  The problems seemed to me to be they didn't reach their peaks all at the same time, but at near the end of their respective careers.

Then throw in the 3 "pick 6's" we throw early. That's another 6 points.

I sure thought Webster & Stevenson would step right in & be “impactful” players, but that hasn’t happened. Banton/McGowens have HUGE holes in their games, & our BIGS are a borderline disaster if yer being objective. Other than that, bring on Penn St...

Stevenson is going to dribble into a tunnel painted on a brick wall by a roadrunner at times but he's starting to grow on me.  He's part of the lineup that Fred throws out now when he wants to get stops.

If he could kick it out a bit more once he dribbles into the lane it would help his game I think. Tries to finish through too much traffic.

This is a really good point - lazy passes that lead to live ball turnovers have killed us quite frequently. When you think about how good our 1/2 court defense has been, giving up these turnover/dunks is a killer.

It feels like Fred is pulling guys after they make these lazy passes a little more frequently lately ... but I also may just be seeing what I want to see.
