I think Danny Nee may finally have an opening for his dream job. I'm betting his old Merchant Marine team could have beaten the team we played yesterday.

I do not believe Danny is coaching these days...I believe something happened his last year at the MM, and he was either let go, or resigned.

Make progress one step at a time with this team. Step number one: stay out of the cellar. Check.

Next up is a home game against another truly awful, poorly coached team: Minnesota (185 on KenPom)

We need to not only win, but to play well at home to build confidence. After that, focus on beating mediocre teams.

You know guys, after looking at the conference schedule, we win the next 2 games and we're probably in the top half of the conference standings. Might not win another one until February, but we can gloat for a game or two anyway!

That would be nice, Jurgey.  I thought earlier that we might just 'sneak' into the upper half of the conference, but that was by season end.  Be nice to get there a little earlier, even if only fleetingly.   ;)  The next two games are big opportunities for staying in the win column!

Best case scenario:

1. Back to back wins over winnable opponents

2. Play a Michigan State team with a Denzel Valentine that isn't quite up to speed yet after sitting out a month. Play a close game and give ourselves a chance to win at the end

3. Beat a Michigan team at home that doesn't have anything resembling a decent big. They will try to outplay us with guards

4. Don't get smacked by Purdue

5. Don't get smacked you Maryland

6. Beat Rutgers, Wisconsin, and penn state somehow

7. Keep it close vs Indy and give ourselves a shot to win at the end of the game

8. Find a way to win 2 of our last 4 (osu, @psu, Purdue, @northwestern

I would like to think that our BEST case scenario would be winning all of our last 14 games, win the Big Ten tournament, and win the NCAA tournament, but that's just me being facetious :D

You're right, Mich, that's pretty lofty. I'd like to think we could play to that, but realism often weighs in heavily around this time of the year.

Yeah, me too.  It's all those extra helpings of mashed potatoes and gravy.  And who was the asshole who invented chocolate truffles?  I owe him about 50 pounds.

I'm starting to like our chances just ever so slightly better vs Purdue now. We have a week to prepare and prep and obviously the momentum will help

That is the only game I don't think we stand much of a chance of winning due to matchup problems.  But at this point, I wouldn't count NU out of any game.

I think Maryland is the tougher matchup because at points Purdue has very erratic guard play.

Agree but I'm more worried about their two 7-footers than I am their guards.  We are going to have a hard time stopping both their big men.

Michigan scares me right now because they are next and they might be great, but I think they are pretty good and seem to match up with us some.

I haven't really looked at them but they seem to be a bit like us correct? No real size inside and good shooters/slashers on the wings?

They only managed to beat Minnesota at home by 5.  We could have named the score.

Does that make you feel any better?
