According to Lee Barfknecht this a.m.:

Miles said the request to transfer wasn’t a big surprise, even after the 6-foot-2 freshman played in all 31 games, started three and averaged 17.6 minutes a game. “Tarin and I had talked over the last month about his future and where he fit in,” Miles said. “I believe strongly in Tarin and wanted him to stay, but I put out the most likely scenario for him and told him he had to feel good about it.”

The coach's job is to recruit over every single player on the roster. The player's job is to be better than that recruit.

Does anyone think the most likely scenario Miles gave was that he would be the starting point guard and he still decided to leave? Would we be better off next year if Miles sugar-coated it for him and he spent the next season being unhappy about that?

Frank might have had a different perspective if his parents had been "badgering" him every night on the under utilization of his talent by a coach who would never appreciate him and the suggestion that a fresh start with a more perceptive coach would restart his career. I remember that parental influence was still pretty strong at that age and Kaminsky's parents , being successful college athletes, undoubtedly had a more realistic view of his progress than the Smiths.

According to Urban Dictionary, "hmmmm" is a sound you make "to express hesitation" or when you "are thinking about something" or when you "don't know exactly what to say." Yeah. All of those. And what Auroran said, too.

According to Wiki, the Duquesne Dukes men's basketball teams last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 1977, have been to the NIT Tournament twice (1994 and 2009) since 1981, and have been to the CBI twice in recent years (2010 and 2011).

Duquesne is Pitt's lil' bro in Pittsburgh... Perhaps Tarin's father wants his son to be a bigger fish in a small pond (in pop's backyard).

How far is Pittsburg from New Jersey? They aren't all that close are they?

Yeah, I suppose. The difference is only driving 6 hrs instead of the 20+ hrs to Lincoln.

So, you're saying he should have transferred to LaSalle, St. Joseph or Temple?

Philly's only an hour and a half from Jersey City.  That's, like, less than Tarin's commute to and from high school.
