2018 SG Aguek Arop -> San Diego St

Recommended Posts

Sounds like he had a few explosive dunks.  So the leg appears to be fine........man we are recruiting some length.

The question is can he shoot?  We're recruiting him as a SG so he needs to be able to shoot.

I saw an interview of him from a few months back, after the injury, where he was talking about working on his shooting.  From what little video I'd seen of him PRIOR to the injury, it sure looked like his perimeter jumper needed some work, but then again, he was what?, just a sophomore?  His coach knows the game, though, and I'm sure is capable of teaching fundamentals like shooting.

Hopefully, outside shooting will be a strong suit of his when he gets here.

He needs to put on about 25 lbs of muscle and improve his outside game.  But he is an exciting player with a tremendous upside.  Should be fun watching him mature.

He's just a junior so I'm hoping the shot will develop over the next couple years. Heck he might be 6'8" by the time he's a freshman and can slot into our roster of 12 6'7"-6'9" guys by then.

Aguek Arop is now listed as 6-5" instead of 6'-7" from a year ago. Still, AA has a couple years to grow in stature and girth. Hope the outside game continues to improve by leaps & bounds, as well. Preferably by 'swishes'! ;)

Norm - I watched him practice quite a bit when he was in 8th and 9th grades. You can tell he was taught form shooting but it just did not look real natural at that time. Not sure what it is but it just looked a little different maybe because he has such long arms or something, I am not sure. He has a nice mid range game so I think the 3 ball will come as he gets older and stronger. His AAU coach at the time (8th grade) told me he has never coached a kid with such energy and the ability to play extremely fast but under control. If he develops a legit jumper the sky is the limit with him.

He also seemed to be a great kid helping out the younger kids in practice, running drills, etc

Omaha South asst coach & former Husker Bruce Chubick had some comments on Arop on 93.7 Friday. If I linked this correctly, fast forward to 10:30 mark.

Said Arop is "energizer bunny" - never stops working, never stops moving on offense. Very coachable, always takes comments from coaches and tries to implement them. Thinks he'll be a guy at D-1 level who can guard a variety of different players, quick enough to guard players smaller than he is, but is going to have enough explosive jumping ability and length to rebound vs taller players.

Said he'll definitely need to get stronger to play B1G basketball.

Good talk about Arop on Sharpe & Benning this morning.  Sipple was on for Sharpe.

Sipple said Arop is a lock down defender and loves playing defense

He compared him offensively to Shavon

Shooting could improve

He is going to play some AAU on a Chauncey Billups team so he can play with taller guys and thus play the 2

I found this interesting since I haven't read specifics about his game.

Also, Mike Sautter was on and said while Arop and Chang are very close, he thinks if Chang keeps on improving he could become a blue-blood recruit.
