According to Rule 10, Section 3, article 2, a technical foul is assessed for ...

"A team member dunking or attempting to dunk a dead ball during the game."

That's the rule Karl Hess cited for issuing Coach Miles his 2nd technical.

Perhaps he meant Rule 10, Section FIVE, article 2, parts e and f, which state:

e. Objecting to an official’s decision by rising from the bench or using
gestures.
f. Inciting undesirable crowd reactions.

Of course, neither applies since Miles wasn't objecting to a decision but rather was clearly trying to alert the officials to the shot clock not starting.  And it was the technical that incited a crowd reaction, not what Miles did.

If the NCAA championship game was officiated like our game was, it would damage the "product."  Nothing we can do about our game, but for the love of the game, this crew should never be allowed to work a NCAA tournament game again.

How about not another NCAA D1 game?

Actually, that was for last year.  This year, section 5 moved to section 3.

Oh.

Well, then, nevermind.

He's still an idiot and the sections he cited still didn't apply.

That was what my next post was going to be, also.  He is a moron, just like Hightower and Valentine, who think fans pay 100's of dollars to watch them.

Until officials are reprimanded or punished for doing a poor job there will never be a change. Guessing if most of us here had a less than stellar rating at our job we would be in the unemployment line. But unfortunately the NCAA sits back and watches the money roll in without any worry of repercussions.

Am I missing something here?  Did Hess ever mention that he effed up, over reacted, and took a, although probably trivial, part of the game into his own hands??

This is the same trick that I pull on my fiance' when I screw up.  I tell her that, "I'm sorry my actions made you feel this way" without admitting any guilt.

Ha! My wife is a counselor and calls me on it every time I say that!

My wife is lead therapist and would never let me get away with that statement either.

How it went down:

Hunter alerts Miles that shot clock isn't running.

Miles races to midcourt to point out the mistake, gesticulating.

Hess turns, immediately slaps a T on Miles and ejects him.

How it could have gone down:

Hunter alerts Miles that shot clock isn't running.

Miles races to midcourt to point out the mistake, gesticulating.

Hess turns and walks toward Miles.

Hess: "Tim, you're out of the box, I'm going to give you a T."

Miles: "The shot clock isn't working. You should have noticed that."

Hess: "Really?" Turns to the shot-clock operator. "Is that true?"

Shot-clock operator: "Yep. I made a mistake. Forgot to turn it on."

Hess: "Thanks, Tim."

Hess then gathers his colleagues at the scorer's table and convenes a conference about what to do.

I can't stand the "Well, I called a T, and we can't go back and correct a bad decision" bullshiff.

I watched all 4 games in San Antonio today.  The officiating was terrible in all the games.  I say "terrible" because there is no consistency as to what is allowed and not allowed.  In the Iowa St. NC Central game you could be mugged with no foul called.  The Creighton game was much more physical that what was allowed in our game.  The NCAA should be embarrassed and I would hope concerned about this inconsistent performance.

I thank our players, coaches and even our media for taking the high road, staying classy, and not commenting on the job done by Karl and his cohorts yesterday. I have no compunction about this myself. Banishing one of the more benign and likeable coaches from the arena during the biggest game of his life was an inexcusable demonstration of uncontrolled ego and lack of understanding of the role of an official. I know this thread will be a chance for me to vent, and will be therapeutic for my own psyche and only wish that Coach Miles could have designated an assistant who might have accompanied him down the ramp and told King Karl what he really thought of the ejection. Danny Nee and our Coach Bo immediately come to mind.

Just as pissed off as you man. Gonna sting for a long time, and not just because we lost; but because it believe it was a thrown game for the refs. We shot 60% to to their 47 in the second half, and they got 28 MORE FREE THROWS. unacceptable refereeing job, especially when you see how the ejection and all hurts a great (though fiery ) guy like tim. :(

Of course, I have no doubt Tim will right the ship and we'll win with such alarge margin to leave no doubt next year. Best we can do it turn our angst and anger to creighton. ;)
