Ron, to me, "toxic waste" includes bashing Shawn Eichorst for being rumored (the sketchiest of rumors, too, BTW) to have told Tim Miles to do what Miles almost certainly was going to do of his own volition anyway.  Calling Eichorst a "douche" for allegedly influencing a good decision to happen is weird.  And toxic waste in its own right.

So far, we've managed to avoid some of the toxic waste posters.  I'm sure there are a few.  The tone of this board tends to be different than others I've seen and part of that is that I don't think the moderators here are best buddies with the most toxic of posters, letting them get away with virtually any kind of toxic behavior while appearing to "moderate" everyone else.

If those guys have migrated over here, they've done it under a different screen name and managed to behave themselves so far.

Welcome to the new breed of Nebraska Sports fan. These fans believe the game should resemble a video game. These people would trade their integrity for championships. Unfortunately a few of them have brought their toxic waste to this board and they will bring "friends". Expect it to get progressively worse in the future.

Says the guy whose out to get Eichorst because he's not Tom Osborne. Ron you seem to be very very bitter. Osborne is not coming back!

Eichorst has earned plenty of criticism on his own, without regard to who is predecessor was. Hopefully he will grow into the job and ultimately turn out OK.

You can make that claim for just about any AD, hell...the same could be said about Tom Osborne when he was first hired as AD telling Bo which assistants to keep and being a cheapskate with recruiting resources. Eichorst atleast has started to open up the checkbook which is needed if NU wants to get back to winning football titles. The only group not giving Eichorst a chance is Ron's tradition coalition group because they know Perlman hired him without Osbornes consent. Eichorst hasn't been perfect, and probably never will be perfect but i do see that he never had a chance with this group. Of course, Pederson the guy who everyone hates...and rightfully so...was given two thumbs up by Tom Osborne before he was hired.

There may be that group out there (T.O. loyalists not giving Eichorst a chance), but I assure you that's not where I'm coming from.  In fact, I think there is a group of people who thought it was time for TO to fade off into the sunset who support Eichorst because he is new and not TO--without regard to how he is actually doing the job.  13, you are a great poster on this board, but is there a chance your views on Eichorst are colored by some lingering disdain for Osborne?  Sounds a little like it when you hammer him for getting it wrong (like many others including myself) on Pedey.

I have spent a considerable amount of time in his presence, and have been disappointed to this point.  He is nicknamed "The Ghost" by many for being so publically non-existent.   He is a manager rather than a leader, to this point.  I am amazed that someone can generate a 7 figure salary with his lack of talent in public speaking and interacting with people.   I will say he is much better one on one than trying to stumble his way around a speech or a simple walk up to a table of 8; where his lack of ability is mind-boggling for a person in his position.

Last night at the baseball banquet was another classic example.  No one even knew he was there until he snuck out the door, inappropriately attired once again.  He stayed in a corner, and had no interaction with the tables full of boosters.  This happens frequently.  There are different styles that can work in this visible job, but he needs to show at least some recognition of interacting with fans, boosters, and his own coaches (his management structure is such that no coaches report to him, it is all through intermediaries.  It is difficult for a coach to even get in to see him).

Having said this, after a few years there will be a track record on hiring coaches.  If he is good at that, all will be pretty well.  But the early returns on his leadership aren't good.

But sorry, we've gotten off of basketball on the basketball forum....

Dude your making this to personal. I've judged him solely on the job he's done based on the position he holds. His biggest moves thus far have been to hire a couple of unnecessary overpaid middle management bean counters instead of paying more to the assistant coaches.

Lmao what?

Tim Beck salary under Tom Osborne- $ 365,000

Tim Beck salary under Shawn Eichorst- $700,000

So now we are in the business of giving handouts just for the hell of it? What exactly did the assistant coaches due to deserve a raise this past year?  If anything, our beef should be with Eichorst giving Els a raise....you know, the guy who can't even put together a punt return unit.  Produce...and you will get a raise...plain and simple.  That recruiting staff bean counters is more than Tom Osborne ever did to help this staff get over the recruiting hump.

Mistakes Miles has made

1.  The dismissal of Corey Hillard - Hillard was accused of stealing a cell phone.  Charges would be later dropped as he was found to not even be involved in the incident.  Why is this a problem. 1.  The false accusation made against him could have wrecked his life.  It says Miles will not allow due process & he will not stand by his players.  Bad sign for an one coming in.  2.  It is possible Miles was looking at a potential extra scholarship spot, I could get more of MY guy's in MY System.  Hillard was a Sadler guy and that was most likely what did him in.  Miles showed that he was not concerned with the well being of the student.   He will throw you a way in a heart beat if he thinks it will effect him or he can get a better deal. TIM IS A USER.  NOT A GOOD SIGN.

2.  The scheduling of the Charleston Classic was a big mistake.  This is a classic case of they eyes are bigger then the stomach syndrome.  I like that Miles is willing to take on name brands school. That speaks well of his attitude, fearless.  I like it.  But TIM styles himself "An Advanced Stats Guy". What do the Stats say.  They say we got our butt kicked.  I am betting right about now Tim wishes he had those 4 win back.  Don't get me wrong.  I like that Tim has the Cojones to play some decent teams, but Tim   should have gone back to the Sun Bank Classic.  We could have won that and he could have then brought UAB and Georgia in to play at PBA.  Wouldn't that have been nice to see. For us the Non-con defines the season, 11 or more wins are required in the non-con, preferably 13 or 14.

3.  Not accepting a tournament offer.   BIG BIG,BIG BIG mistake.  Tim had a chance to play, get exposure on TV and play some decent  teams and passed it up.   The team deserved to play, and we fans deserved to play and Tim deserved to play  Who cares if it was not the NIT or NCAA.  TIM you does not get that this is Nebrasketball, not Kansas or Duke.  We play in the Big 10 not the MW.  We play in one of the hardest leagues in the country and we deserve something.  CIT or CBI it does not matter to us.  Put your ego aside Tim. Take any tournament, we can build off of that. Here is a hint:  Pick the one where we can get the most wins.   There are over a 120 slots for tournament play.  If you don't make tournament this year, it is on you and you only Tim.

4. Deverell Biggs.  I want to reserve judgement on this on for now.  It is too early to tell if this was the right decision or not.  If we make tournament play it was, we can second guess later.  I will say that I have seen a propensity to be a dictator and come down hard on guys.  You mess up under Tim and boy it is over for you.  Maybe that is the case with DB.  He got on Miles Bad side and was never same after that.

1. Hilliard was a HORRIBLE basketball player and an even worse teammate.

2. No

3. No

4. Biggs was a me first, I need to get my shots guy. A coach can't let a guy like that continue to get away with doing his own thing and still have the locker room won.

So, you're wrong on all four.

That is not the point.  He did nothing worng and was punished for it.  That is not good for team morale.  I tell you if I were a kid coming in and I found out about that.  I would think twice before coming to Nebraska.  We cannot afford to have the player not trust the coach.

1. If I am a D1 athlete I wouldn't even put my self in a situation to get into trouble. Hilliard had prior incidents of I'm not mistaken.

2. We wouldn't be in the position RPI and SOS wise right now without Charleston. It does no good to play Patseys. Without Charleston, we are not having discussions about dancing.

3. It didn't hurt us 1 bit. Most of the players playing solid minutes this year couldn't have played anyways....

4. What Crazy said

Posted

Okay I read them:

2. Your opinion on the Charleston classic just proves that you don't understand the ins and outs of scheduling. You are right about him being a stats guy, but wrong about the Charleston classic not helping us. It's about strength of schedule man and UMass helped a great deal.

3. Miles rightfully so did not want to be the first Big Ten team to play in one of those lesser tournaments. He let Purdue be the first, which was smart. When trying lure kids to play for your program, why associate your name with the lesser tourneys?

So,again, you're wrong on all four points.

Is that it??  that is your logic?  I know the ends and outs of scheduling,  I have written several articles on this subject.  I know this if would don't get wins your SOS means nada, nothing squat. Why don't you explain who UMass helped us?  All I see is we got a loss and another loss because of that?  If we make the NIT it might help with a higher seed, but right now we may not make the NIT.  it won't help then.

Again,  what kind of logic is that??  Creighton, Oregon, Harvard all have played in those tournaments so your point is not made.  It is childish. We have a building to pay for and a brand to build.  Associating with "lesser" tournaments is the way you build your brand,  playing for any title is better then playing for NO TITLE.

So,again, you're wrong on all four points.

If you say so.

1. Hilliard was a HORRIBLE basketball player and an even worse teammate.

That is not the point. He did nothing worng and was punished for it. That is not good for team morale. I tell you if I were a kid coming in and I found out about that. I would think twice before coming to Nebraska. We cannot afford to have the player not trust the coach.

2. No

care to explain?

3. No

care to explain?

4. Biggs was a me first, I need to get my shots guy. A coach can't let a guy like that continue to get away with doing his own thing and still have the locker room won.

you may be right here. if it is really a Chemistry thing then the team will gel and Tim will be vindicated.

So, you're wrong on all four.

you've just stated a disagreement. not a fact. give a reasoned response.

1. You don't know the whole story.

and you do? please tell us.
