Another player to keep an eye on is Sam Griesel of Lincoln East. He is getting DII offers but he has a lot of potential. Good on the drive and a solid shooter.

Thanks for the tip. Grew 4 inches and given his parents' heights might grow some more.

Looks like Chang and Heiman are the only realistic options to land here. Would be nice to land both.

Heiman would need a redshirt year and with the assumption of having McVeigh, Copeland, and Roby returning there wont be much time available for Chang until his sophomore year.

No, see it's like this.  Griesel is still growing, right?  He's going to grow 6 more inches between now and his senior year and he's going to become a Husker and come to Nebraska with all those guard skills in a 6'10" package and be like our version of Frank Kaminsky.

That's how I have it planned out, anyhow.

You had me at Frank Kaminsky. Thatd be quite the front court: Jordy and a Kaminsky like PF.

I'd settle for a more athletic Brian Conklin.  Which, now that you mention it, would be a lot like Frank Kaminsky.

Let's keep a collective eye on (now ex) Lincoln Northeast Junior-to-be point guard Malcolm Whitlow.  He is transferring to play for Teddy Owens at Carrollwood Day School in Tampa, Florida.  He looks to have the talent to play at high Division I if his game continues to develop.

He was Sautter's #2 behind Akol Arop.  Shouldn't be too hard as long as he's playing.

Burke's Wanjang Tut to UNO, will redshirt. Had decent mid offers from FGCU and Charlotte, had originally signed with Little Rock. He wasn't that skilled when I saw him a couple of years ago, but seemed to have a 10-foot wingspan.

He never really fulfilled his potential in high school. If he does he could be a solid player for UNO.

I heard Mike Sautter say Mitchell was the best on ball defender in the Midwest. If that's true, why can't he play here?

If we keep striking out on guards he may get an offer

One reason I could see us staying away from Shareef would be the fact that we've somewhat already cornered the market on point guards who are just above 6 feet tall by having both Glynn and Thomas Allen on the roster.. Could be wrong though. I have always been impressed with his game, but I have also always thought that his size would be hold him back from a high major.

I was thinking the same thing. The kid has game, but we have two dudes almost the same height as him at the same position. We'll just have to see.

Mitchell's listed at 5' 11". You can play at that height. Purdue's starting PG was shorter than that. they did ok. If he's the best on-ball defender in the midwest, surely being an inch shy of 6' isn't going to stop him from being productive at some point in his career. I'm not saying he'll come in and oust one of those guys, but that seems like good depth to have. I've never seen him, play, so maybe there's a gap in his game other than that, but if what I've heard from people who have seen him is true, it seems like it would make sense to take a long, hard look at this kid. (And I'm sure Miles and Co. have done their due diligence.)

How well does he shoot the ball?  Benny Parker was one of the best on-ball defenders we've had in awhile but was a liability on the offensive end and many felt that his offensive limitations more than offset his defensive abilities.  So, he can defend.  I'll assume he can distribute.  But can Mitchell shoot?

Here's Sautter's statement on him in the OWH (it also lists him as 6'):

Quote

Evaluation: Mitchell is a tough guard with a scoring mentality. He’s capable of running the point or playing off the ball. He can shoot from the perimeter, get into the paint and finish around the basket with his athleticism. He has incredibly quick feet and is one of the best on-ball defenders in the state.

Here's his Hudl tape:

Sounds like he's at least had convos with both schools in the State's biggest city and will be visiting the state school in the town. Reclassifying and going to a prep school sounds like it might be on the table, too.
