Rigsby had scored 17 total points in his last 7 games combined before dropping 20 on us. 

 

It was a good run. Maybe next year. Probably not.

Fred once again cannot figure out that if you are starved on offense you need to play your best shooter and spacer.  Waited too long and it cost us.  Just start him Fred.  It is not that complicated.  We play better team d when the ball is going through the hoop a fair bit.  Shouldn't be related, but it is.

Good comeback, but too little too late. Some missed calls sure, but you can only worry about what you can control. Needed to get stops late desperately and they couldn't deliver. 

 

Bigsby going 5-6 from 3 despite shooting 24% from 3 in the year is a knife in the back. 

 

Is what it is. Move on and win vs OSU.

I was against this before, but when he's hitting his shots like today, it worked. He played essentially the entire second half and helped spark the comeback. Take out meah and insert him.

A Day ago all I heard was we had to Win TWO out of Three to be a Lock for the Tournament (since we were projected as a 10 Seed) & Now Today we’re DONE…???

As long as we don't plan on running the offense through that player. Hopefully, like last year, Mast (and/or maybe a transfer PG) is the primary decision maker and the guy the offense revolves around. And Brice was able to play his role of an efficient/lower volume, smooth three level scorer. Worked well. On mediocre to bad offenses, they are the sole focal point of the offense. On those great offensive teams, these players play that role of a three level scorer that Brice did for us last year (Kon Knueppel at Duke, John Tonje at Wisconsin, RJ Luis at St. John's). Of the currently ranked teams that run their offense through one player as the primary decision maker, they are all either floor general point guards who can get into the teeth of the defense (Braden Smith, Cam Jones, etc) or versatile 4s and 5s who can score and have great vision (Johnni Broome, Cooper Flagg, Danny Wolf, etc). Other teams like Michigan State, BYU, Wisconsin, etc don't run their offense through just one guy. 

 

Those point guards and versatile 4s/5s have the ability to make their teammates better. It's tough for Brice, he doesn't have much offensive talent around him at all, but he's also not able to make his teammates better. Again, that's not a knock on him. It's just not his game (I love Brice. One of the best we've ever had at Nebraska). 

Michigan had the gameplan of playing Brice straight up (and not always with their best perimeter defender), basically allowing him to get 25 points but making him use up 25-30 possessions to get there, and just lock up all of our other players, who are pretty easily lockable. Brice's game isn't to get into the lane, draw two defenders and either kick out for an open three or dump it off to a big for a dunk. He has played his role admirably this year. More efficiently than Petteway and JPJ did in similar roles. Obviously the roster construction isn't his fault. Just by having Mast back and more shooters (probably), the offense will look entirely different next year.

You can't predict when he is going to hit shots or not.  You can predict how the court is spaced due to teams not to want him to get open shots. Also essentially in the second half was I believe when we got down by 16 or so right out of the gates with wrong lineup.

Yeah I agree on the spacing factor. I just haven't been a fan of his due to his inconsistencies honestly. But I see what you're saying.

At least we can play loose now.  Nothing to lose.  Thought we would get a lead and not look back with 7 to go.  Berke's injury really set him back.  Brice went too early on the last offensive possession.  What they ran could have been ran with 8 seconds left and left 2 seconds on the clock.  Defense was really poor after the fact, Morgan again floats too far from the wing.

Feels like if we overcompensated for size this year we will overcompensate on shooting next season. We probably asked Brennan Rigsby if he had another year left while walking through the handshake line

I think you'd feel differently if we had more, better offensive players. Seems like we can't figure out if we want him to play the Keisei role or the CJ role. I'll take "pretty" offense (as Buzz Williams called it) over whatever this is. More fun to watch anyway. And as someone else said, Loenser can teach them to play at least some defense.

I disagree on consistency tbh. I look at big ten play with a lot of stuff, and In Big ten play he's floating around 34% from 3 before today, which should bump up. He'll likely end up with more makes from 3 in conference than CJ and right behind keisei. Now, he's THE shooter on the team, so he's going to have a good number of makes from 3 in big ten play, whereas last year there was 5 guys who could hit a 3 ball consistently. I see him in more of a CJ role tbh, but that's just me

 

I just expected more, but having better shooters supporting him next year should help.

I was meaning brice/jpj over Connor and Gavin types. Of course I would love a floor general pg as well. Give me Glynn Watson 2.0.

This may be the craziest year.  We are 0 - 6 against teams 1 - 5 in the Big 10.  We are 2 - 5 against teams 11 - 18. We are 5 - 0 against teams 6 - 10.

Brice Williams and Juwan Gary each scored 21 points for Nebraska. Today marked the sixth game this season where NU had multiple players score 20-or-more points and the fifth time with both Williams and Gary hitting that plateau. 

 

• Juwan Gary’s 21-point effort marked his sixth 20-point effort of the season and ninth of his career.
