If it's a school with a significant name as nearly everyone has been alluding to, that leaves Clemson, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Xavier, St. Joseph's, Temple, FGCU, Boston College, Virginia, Georgia TEch, Cincy, Pitt, Providence, DePaul, Rutgers, Seton Hall, South Florida, St. Johns, Syracuse, ASU, Cal, Oregon st., USC, Utah, Wash, WSU, Memphis, BYU, St. Mary's or UNO.

I was 100% joking when I included them on the list...

why not strike while the iron is hot.  Now hopefully they dont lose to them.

People will probably look back and think "Why did we play that team?"

I guess that's one way to schedule a 'Big Name Team'

From a short term perspective I think it's a good draw, solid opponent who should win their league and not be an RPI killer (may actually be a boost).

But twenty years from now when we look back on who we beat to open "the bank" with and see that our opponent was FGCU.  I can already see a lot of us saying why on earth did we ever do that??

In 20 years from now, nobody will care who we opened up the PBA with.  Just like the vast majority of people can't tell you who we opened up Devaney with.  I think this is a great opening game as they were the hottest team in the country last year and media darlings.

Exactly.  The only time our opening opponent will matter is when they close the barn down and we reflect on the games that ended up being the arena's bookends.

For trivia purposes I will always remember that the Devaney bookends are Iowa and Minnesota but overall you're right.

Whether we win this game may depend upon the timing. Will it the first game of the year for either team, or will we have some games under our belt before opening here to a sell out crowd. Since they have a veteran team and we'll have lots of newcomers, it would seem to be to our advantage to have played together before this game.

I would imagine that it will be the first game for Nebraska.  I would imagine they will want to play their first game of the season at home in the new arena.  Hope it will be FGCU's first game too.

Jeez, are we TRYING to schedule the entire sweet 16? Only 11 more to go...

Only 10 more to go.

Michigan

Michigan State

Indiana

Ohio State

Miami

FGCU

We don't play Michigan St. at home this year.
Yeah, I know but 49r's post didn't say anything about at home, he just said schedule the entire sweet 16. We currently have 6 of the 16 on our schedule, thus 10 to go.

Touché.

I was, in fact, referring to just the home portion of the schedule.  But since I wasn't as precise as I needed to be in my post, I'll allow the exception.

I would love to schedule home and home with Wichita State.  Wouldn't mind setting up an ongoing series with them.

What about South Dakota State?  Their RPI last year was top 64.

they lose the best player they've probably ever had in Wolters.  I don't expect them to be at that level next year.
