Eventually, disposable income will run out for people to continue to support the “benefits” due athletes whether they generate revenue or not.  The college scholarship should mean something to the recipient but in the era of student loan forgiveness, apparently not.

I partly agree. The market will settle with some schools unable to compete as they have in the past because they can't generate enough revenue. There is nothing wrong with that from a macro perspective, but it sucks if your school is left out.

But I think this take is an oversimplification that also conflates 2 mostly unrelated things. It's true that the old ways exploited revenue producing athletes without giving them a fair share. A college education isn't a fair trade for the tens of millions big time football and basketball programs  profit over a four year career. That education is worth about a million  dollars over a lifetime, less if adjusted for inflation. They should get their share of those millions in their 4 year career instead of paying a coach $8 million a year or an extra dozen staffers who aren't truly necessary.

It's also true (in my mind) that non revenue sports shouldn't get paid as much because they don't pay for themselves. That's a bad take on Title IX, which is about opportunity,  not money. Taking football profits to provide opportunity,  sure, but to pay players the same cash, no way. That full scholarship probably is a fair trade for their services.

Completely separate is student loan forgiveness. That's about a broken system,  and doesn't solve the unnecessarily inflated cost of an education caused by numerous factors, some the fault of borrowers making bad decisions, others the fault of universities providing worthless degrees and encouraging enrollment by people who have no business in college. And construction of buildings with donations but not including an endowment to pay for future operating costs. Forgiveness is reparations, not the fix.

Some excerpts:

The names — in order — that Hoiberg mentioned as contenders were Utah transfer Rollie Worster, Ahron Ulis, Brice Williams, Sam Hoiberg, Rutgers transfer Gavin Griffiths and Wisconsin transfer Connor Essegian, but Hoiberg raved about Worster’s potential off the top.

“I love everything Rollie is all about,” Hoiberg said. “He’s got a chance to be the only Husker ever to score 1,000 points, get 500 rebounds and 500 assists, if he has an OK year he will achieve those numbers. Talking to anybody that’s been around Rollie or played against Rollie, all they say is he does whatever it takes to win. And you can see that. His shot looks really good right now. He’s been working really hard on his shot, and he just does all the little things right.”

With that said, though, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Nebraska ultimately runs a system that has multiple ball handlers, just based on the various lineup potentials this squad has.

And that’s not just from the point guard perspective but for all five starting spots.

“I’m going to have a really tough job when it’s all said and done on who’s going to be the guys that not only start the game, but probably more importantly, who finishes the game,” Hoiberg said. “But that point guard spot, I’ve been pleased with what I’ve seen. And again, the multi-handler system, we’ve got a lot of guys that can initiate the offense.”

Other notes:

  • Meah practicing in half-court drills.
  • Frager doing only shooting drills. Live-action in late August, maybe.
  • Mast shooting, not moving, ahead of rehab schedule.
  • Fred makes no apologies for non-con schedule. "We're going to get tested."

Don't know where the best place to put this is and I didn't want to start a new thread but it appears that PBA is going to move up one spot in the arena capacity standings this off-season:

The "Arena Porn" thread would have been a good spot.

And that's certainly interesting that KU is revamping both their football and basketball venues.

Just introduced my friend, and former husker basketball player Albert Maxy Sr to the board.  He's hooked.

Welcome to the board Albert. If I am remembering correctly, I believe I met you back in the late 1980s and into the 1990s when I was involved with the Lincoln Track Club. I would usually see you at their road races. I now live in Scottsbluff. I hope you enjoy the board.

Hmm.  Not positive that I saw a great number of highlights...just saying

"No reason for a ton of takeaways because we watched a little shooting and some three-man weave." pretty much says it all.

The highlight is seeing our basketball team do anything basketball related in July. 😀

However Robin and Wilson both singled out Andrew Morgan and Connor Essegian as being very good from 3 in the drills they watched. I saw Essegian make two in the video and I didn't see Morgan take a single shot. So feels like some "highlights" might have been missed and a bunch of bricks were included instead. But nevermind, my original point stands, great to see the basketball team in action.
