Hausen standing around the line is in a big part because of Novas offense. They pick the mismatches and everyone els spreads the floor. Might be why he is moving on.

i hope Jano is better than both and think he will be at some point. However I want to win now and not taking any chances if we don’t have to. We have room, let’s fill it up with proven guys and make a run

I'm with you. We really just need Kyle and Milicic and then the other spots do not matter much to me because then you're already looking at Nick Janowski and Sam Hoiberg being guys 9 and 10 (that's with Mast being out) and if Janowski and Hoiberg are your 9 and 10 then you're in good shape.

I want to know who this mystery visitor is. The big post player. Is he tall? Or big like this is a big deal? Should we start throwing out guesses?

No, the visit got cancelled.  It was Victor Lahkin of Cincinnati, who was set to visit until he committed to Clemson yesterday.  Sorry for the false alarm.

It’s more or less this simple.  And if Mast is healthy, Igor isn’t even a need.  Theres no dynamic players outside of those 3 that are going to come here.

I believe Janowski is going to play and play big time.

I think with Lahkin out of the picture our next name on the cocktail napkin is David Skogman

How would you feel if we got Milicic?

No I think that would be a great addition. There's several players we're in that would be great IE: Payne

I don't think my concerns are unfounded. It doesn't sound like Mast is playing next year. Gary & Williams is pretty damn good still feel we need 1 more guy. The others we've added seem like solid starters/rotational guys.

We're still very active.    Believe a couple of guys are visiting today.   Shooting guard and big post player.   Somehow the post player has been under the radar.

That sounds promising. . .

((UPDATE))

Then I read the follow-ups, *false alarm* lol.

The SG news can be a boon..... still hopeful that WK-III and/or Milicic are 'N'!!!

Maybe it's our PGs or maybe we don't need it but I'm struggling to see a guy who can drive to the basket and draw contact.  Maybe that's Brice but boy we'd better hope that building the entire team around Brice is going to work.

Worster is crafty and physical, particularly in P&R.  Gets in the paint and sprays it around at will.  Just not a great outside shooter.  He is a true primary ballhandler and creator.  A lot of his 10ppg are at the rim/line.

I think the incoming shooters really help Brice/Worster with space.  Morgan is very good off the dribble for a 5.  I expect another big jump from Gary with his ballhandling in 1v1.  GG is a good leaper and willing finisher if he puts on some weight.

The kid that might fit your description best could very well be Janowski.  He is a problem 1v1 - great shooter, physical, and extremely crafty in drawing contact.  Might not be textbook quickness drives from the wing, but his midrange post iso game is very impressive.  Three level scorer.

I have a feeling when late October rolls around we're going to be hearing that Nick Janowski has been surprising people in practice.

I suppose we know this for sure if Mast is actually here, able to play.   But it's doubtful he'll play.  The knee is a big problem and wasn't fixed by the December procedure.   Props to him for persisting and finishing the season.  I doubt we make the dance if he would have ended it mid-season.   I think the plan is for surgery, and the type that has him out 10-12 months.   He has a great doc, through Fred's connections.   But barring a surprise, you won't see him on court next fall.

With that being the case then we for sure need at least 2 bigs.

...and we haven't even brought up Braden Frager yet.  I wonder how his surgery went?

I see that no one has responded to your two inquiries on this.  What do you know ?   Am I recalling correct that you have an optimistic outlook on his potential?  Based on him being a bit younger and the fact that people aren’t going nuts about him, safe to say that most are not expecting him to play significant minutes next year.  Since he’s from Lincoln, would be great if he turns into a success story.  Given everything, there’s likely going to need to be some perseverance.

What I heard was that he had some sort of surgery to a foot or ankle.  Yet I have not seen or heard any confirmation.  It could be nothing, or it could be something.  So I am trying to see if anyone here has more information.

I do believe this kid is a baller.  I've only watched him play once and he is definitely skilled.  I'm not sure whether that skill translates into a redshirt year or whether he can be a rotational player this season.

I guess I also wonder what his exact motivation was to basically graduate a year early?

Thanks for the reply!    I sure hope this young man is grounded, in it for the long haul and loves dear old NU.  Those things are going to be needed most likely, because of his age and his direct competition.  My hunch is that he’s going to need patience and perseverance to have success here.  Those are rare qualities these days ( certainly in this context ).

I hope and am assuming his role has been discussed. With Gary and Brice gone there will be wing minutes to be had in 25. Might be why he came in early. Give everyone a chance to see what he has for a full year and decide if he can be relied on for PT when they are gone.

I am personally pretty high on him. Good size, strength, and athleticism. Believe he is going to shoot it at a high level to, always happy to beat out the blue team for an in state guy.

A depth chart for the sake of recruiting

Caveats

  • If the freshmen do anything, consider it a bonus
  • I don't care about the order of the players listed. Ulis could start over Worster, that doesn't matter here.
  • Didn't list backups.  Griffiths could play at the 4, etc. I'm trying to figure out what we need and I'd like to  me we want to recruit to functionally keep him as a big shooting guard.

PG Worster/Ulis
SG Essegian/Griffiths/Sam
SF Brice
PF Gary
C Morgan/Mast?

Janowski and Frager

Things change if Mast will be available. However seems like two post players for our remaining 3 scholarships and then whatever's clever with our last.

Brice and Juwan are both unique, in that, they can easily transition into multiple roles.  Ideally, Brice can line up as the SG and Juwan as the 3.

The good news is that with the positionless "5-out" offense and non-traditional defense, all the players brought in so far, can play all over the court.

My concern right now is securing two additional bigs.  The bonus would be if they have that inside/outside ability.

Coach Rhule loves to talk about training the football team so that they can play in the NFL.

Similarly, Fred's style fits the big man mantra that seems to permeate the NBA.  Meaning, the traditional post player has been left in the bygone era.  Come to Nebraska and we will hone both your outside and inside game.
