I hope so. That's the weekend of the Michigan game, which is a fox noon kickoff?

I was worrying about Missouri a bit, but they took Marshall and they have a visit locked in with Jayden Quaintance, a 5 star big, so may not be a spot for him.

Xavier is a threat obviously. OSU is as well, and both of those worry me

Undoubtedly he will.  But the last school on the list of visits is typically the one the player commits to, and I mean a kid would be nuts to choose us over Ohio State, or even Xavier for that matter anyway.  Besides, I would imagine that OSU has about 10x the NIL pool for basketball that we do and Xavier is probably at least 5x.  I just don't see us as a legit player here.

I'm just shocked that it seems Purdue is seemingly out of the picture.

NBA draft picks in the last 4 years:

 - Nebraska: 3

 - Ohio St.: 3

 - Purdue: 2

 - Xavier: 1

These players are not charity organizations.  This isn't Make A Wish.

There has to be a compelling reason for them to want to go to Nebraska other than "if on the off chance that something that has never happened before in the history of the world happens, you can be part of it".

That reason is generally $$$ and almost completely in the form of payments from donors to players directly.  I do not see any reason to believe that there is the desire amongst our big money donors to use their money on anything other than football (and, for a subset of these donors, Creighton basketball).  This is why we are where we are and will likely stay there barring unforeseen and unprecedented changes.  It is also why the Jaysker phenomenon is just so damaging to our sports programs outside of football.  I hate it, but it is what it is and that's just the reality of the situation.

So, be angry at me for not being pollyanna about our recruiting prospects, but honestly it's not going to change the reality of what's going on in the state of Nebraska as it relates to college sports.

But hey, if on the off chance we are able to beat out a school like Ohio State or Xavier, or hell, even Creighton for a player I'll be the first one to accept and graciously eat any crow any of y'all are willing to serve up to me.

The reason is often the relationship a recruit has with the coaching staff, or a specific coach on the coaching staff. Maybe Burns is tight with Coach Howard, I don't know.

Every year Nebraska gets commits from players who had offers from more prestigious basketball schools who could probably also offer more money.  This wouldn't be the first time.

Just curious, but does anyone know what the estimated amount of NIL money the basketball program gets or is it just, we want X player, and we go out to certain donors to try and get that player?  I agree with @49r for the most part though.  Relationships are a big deal obviously, but money is normally what gets you over the hump nowadays.

It could simply be a NIL comparison for some guys but all schools offer NIL just like all schools offer facilities or conference prestige or geographic location or style of play or brand afflation or whatever. I suppose that NIL is more a factor for this height of player because they're aren't nearly as many.

At the end of the day it's relationship with the coaching staff and fit.  Money is nice but most guys want to go into a situation where they feel comfortable/set up to succeed. I wouldn't say I've talked to a ton of recruits but the ones I have it's almost always about the assistant recruiting them.

Then how’d we get anyone? Other good programs wanted Boogie, Reink, Williams and many other. We all get how bad we have been and understand pessimism. Just never understand pissing on every thread other people are trying to stay positive about.

Here are his official visits, as of the August 19 tweet above:

Missouri: Sept 1-3

Rice: Sept 8-10

Xavier: Sept 22-24

Nebraska: Sept 29-Oct 1st

Ohio State: Oct 7-9

So . . . before the Rice, Xavier, Nebraska and Ohio State visits even happen, he's (i) eliminated Nebraska and Ohio State, and (ii) added Tulsa.

Go figure.
