I'm going to the basketball game. But I have a new rule for myself this year. If we get down by 20, I'm outta here. I'm not going to stay and watch a pathetic product on the floor.

And my donor thing just showed up in the mail yesterday. Time to write another check to the university for the privilege of watching this awful crap on the basketball floor.

I will be attending many more baseball games this year; but tonight is basketball.

My son and I have season tickets year 3. And he has informed me that he has gotten Saturdays off for the baseball season.

Remind me again, is Baseball the program that brought back the “prodigal son” Husker alum to Coach, extolling the virtues of hard work & disciplined play & it actually LOOKED like it on the Field…???

Completely agree with what you're saying about hard work and discipline.  I'm thinking more of why not a top-notch assistant at a major program who is hungry for success on his own as head coach?  We've never tried that in Husker Hoops.  Norm was on to something in his thread when he asked why not start with a low base salary and incentivize the crap out of the contract?  I love Will Bolt and knew he was the man for the baseball job.  Big Ten basketball is a different animal than baseball.  It will take a special coach to take the Husker basketball program to the level Bolt has in baseball.

OK, so I left with about 8 1/2 to play and Maryland up 20. As I'm walking out the door I heard "[some Husker name] for THREE!" and the crowd kind of elevated the noise level from "library" to "bowling alley." I didn't bother to turn around to see who hit the shot. Too little, too late. And I was pissed because Maryland had opportunities before the 10 minute mark of the 2nd half to get that 20-point lead ... and failed. Those jerks. After we got down 15, I was like, "OK, just get it to 20 so I can leave."

I left after the windmill dunk at the 10:50 mark that put Maryland up 16.  I figured they were done and I wouldn't see a better playthe rest of the game.

Our conference losing margin under Hoiberg is as follows:

2021-2022: 15.6

2020-2021: 13.7

2019-2020: 13.7

This seems not great.  Is this not great?

(There's literally no reason why I'm just comparing Hoiberg with the coach right before him other than I pulled in the most recent seasons to benchmark and I'm too lazy today to go back further...)

Conference Losing Margin:

2021-2022: 15.6

2020-2021: 13.7

2019-2020: 13.7

2018-2019: 11.7

2017-2018: 10.8

2016-2017: 11.2

2015-2016: 10.3

2014-2015: 13.0

2013-2014: 13.1

2012-2013: 15.5

Something to keep in mind, this is for a losing margin; the best you can do to lower the average is "-1". So a swing of +2pts (13.7 avg to 15.6 avg is pretty massive).

Just curious, what was our conference winning margin during that time?

We're obviously dealing with some very low sample size for Hoiberg, so it won't be the best representation. But here it is.

Conference Winning Margin:

2021-2022: 13.0* (1 win)

2020-2021: 8.7* (3 wins)

2019-2020: 10.0* (2 wins)

2018-2019: 8.0

2017-2018: 9.5

2016-2017: 4.8

2015-2016: 18.5

2014-2015: 9.4

2013-2014: 8.6

2012-2013: 7.8

If you really want to get in the weeds, the total margin in conference gets a big murky. It will obviously skew worse since there's far fewer wins, but here we go.

Conference Margin:

2021-2022: -13.7

2020-2021: -10.2

2019-2020: -11.3

2018-2019: -5.8

2017-2018: +3.9

2016-2017: -5.8

2015-2016: -0.7

2014-2015: -6.8

2013-2014: +0.2

2012-2013: -9.1

Yep. My Angels sure had a great one in World Series champ Ersty.
