I do mean to suggest that culture and fit should be priorities. And given his limited production at Iowa State, I wouldn’t just jump on the “he’s a former five star; therefore, he must be really good” bandwagon. I would expect the staff to do their due diligence in trying to assess what was going on with him that he didn’t succeed in Iowa State and isn’t sticking around. thrasher31 and cornfed24-7 1 1 Quote

ISU had a bunch of dudes who deserved the P.T. I'd say it could be as simple as that.... Quote

hhcmatt Posted April 1, 2024 Author Report Posted April 1, 2024 After sifting through a bunch of ISU posts the scuttle I can find is: great athlete, really gets up and down the floor, long arms and can jump, but really struggled with catching and shooting the ball around the basket He's a guy *if* he can put it together becomes a high level NBA player but currently is out the door because he didn't have nearly the game that Milan Momcilovic possessed day one and who knows if he ever will. thrasher31 and millerhusker 1 1 Quote
hhcmatt Posted April 1, 2024 Author Report Posted April 1, 2024 Here is a more complete evaluation The evaluation of him wasn't wrong, and Omaha certainly isn't lacking effort... but sometimes a player that looks primed to make huge strides in reality may be closer to their ceiling than expected. Xavier Foster is a prime example - over 3 full seasons of playing time, he scored a combined 32 pts in his career. Omaha is a great kid, Iowa State gave him every opportunity and support possible, he maximized his effort... but unfortunately he just didn't continue to see progress towards what you'd like to see in a contributor. He was a unique 5-star because of his athleticism and defense (at the HS level) and hope that he could develop some sort of offensive game at a high-level caliber - or at least net positive. Unfortunately that hasn't happened. This is best for both sides. From Premium Posts: I would be fairly shocked if Omaha is back. He hasn’t developed in practice as much as he needed to (actually very little) and he knows even with a ton of effort he’s still only going to get to what you like to see in a true freshman with 8 mins a game max. His hands aren’t getting any softer, he’s still too slow on defense in practice and his offensive game, which was almost non existent for a Big 12 level player coming in and the thing everybody knew he needed to pray got better, has not developed much at all. He gives a ton of effort, but between his handlers and reality, I don’t see him staying. Some guys show massive 5 star potential, but unfortunately sometimes reality ends up being a much different outcome. Quote

Not sure we need another project for next year. OmahaHusker 1 Quote

Not sure why a "dude" would leave a team where he was a project to go to another team where he would be a project? Sounds like he may be a Summitt League candidate. Just reading through ISU Fans comments and watching Diop this year I think I’d rather have Diop. He’s 3 inches taller, I don’t feel there’s any concerns about his hands or his shooting for a 5 guy. It’s just about getting him in the weight room and more experience. The thing about Omaha is that he’s unlikely to start for us IMO So why come be the 3rd or 4th guy off our bench when it sounds like the main thing he needs is on court time. He should transfer down for atleast a year IMO bobcat402 1 Quote

Swan88 Posted April 4, 2024 Report Posted April 4, 2024 From On3: Iowa State F Omaha Biliew Intel: Omaha Biliew entered the college ranks with lofty expectations. The 6-8 forward is a former five-star prospect but didn’t necessarily get to show off his ability in Aimes this season. Nebraska is the school I’ve heard mentioned the most with him, along with Kansas State. The former McDonald’s All-American is looking to make a big impact during his sophomore season.
