Sigh...

This is a horrible topic. We KNOW Nike OR Adidas doesn't make a team.  Why are people using this as a defense to Adidas?  Yes, they sponsor the two teams in the championship game.

Does Nike still crush Adidas' share of the market? Yes.

What does that mean? People prefer Nike.

I guess I should have added  <_< to evoke my sarcasm.

For those who have WSJ access: "How Adidas Aims to Get Its Cool Back" http://www.wsj.com/articles/how-adidas-aims-to-get-its-cool-back-1427072066

For those who don't... here's the gist:

- Miami switched from Nike to Adidas. The administration was happy, the players and fans were not.

- Adidas owns the soccer market, but fails to adapt to the U.S. (which drives the athletic wear fashion)

- Due to German corporate decisions trumping the U.S. division, implementation is slow and the company fails to quickly adapt to market changes

- Consumers are now using athletic wear as everyday wear and companies like Lululemon Athletica and Sketchers USA have been able to adapt to this shift

- #1 Nike, #2 Under Armour, #3 Adidas in the U.S. now

- Michael Jordan wanted a deal with Adidas when he was younger, but the Germans (at corporate) felt U.S. fans resonate better with tall centers than with point guards; Jordan (obviously) went with Nike after that.

- Adidas was focused on team attire rather than individual player endorsements; Nike discovered player endorsements trumps team attire; Adidas is now adapting to that model (they are planning to drop the NBA jersey contract in 2017)

- Adidas's 5-year growth plan is heavily reliant on growing market share in the U.S.

Expect some changes in the U.S., but be hesitant because there would have to be a drastic change at the corporate headquarters for key U.S. decisions to be made. The new Adidas N.A. President asked corporate for approval on signing up to 500 NFL, MLB, et al. player endorsements over the next few years in order to change it's brand image in the U.S. to adapt more toward the popular sports in the country.

KNTK - Morning Take:  Is it time for Nebraska to switch from Adidas to Nike?/Hang Up On Holstein

http://www.theticketfm.com/podcasts/morningtake/2015_07_07_2.mp3

(16:09)

Michigan announced yesterday that they’ll be making the switch from Adidas to Nike for their clothing and materials for the school. Jake and Lanny think Nebraska should do the same, even though Adidas is paying the Huskers way more money than Nike would. Then, DJ takes on Lanny in ‘Hang Up On Holstein,’ featuring colleges of NFL greats.
