Was that game as hard to watch as it was to listen to?? My god, i listened to it for about 10 min in the car (mid second half)and turned it off bc the refs were calling fouls every possession. Had to be 60 fouls called combined.

That being said, we're not gonna get 45 free throw attempts @ St. Johns so they better start shooting it better.

Nice to be 2-0. GBR

One thing to keep in mind at St John's is they play in a tiny little band box arena, the depth perception will be completely different than at PBA...maybe that'll help our shooting out some?

Yes, 56 Ft is a lot.

UNT wasn't as scrappy as EIU, but it was nice to see us bounce back after not playing as well as we wanted to Saturday and jump all over the next opponent. Big starts like that will be important in games like Thursday.

First half was mostly fun, second half was a slog to the finish. If they're going to call that many fouls, they may need to start selling adult beverages at PBA, because it was tough to watch that FT parade sober. OK. Sober-ish.

Our pick-and-roll D sucked.  Several times tonight, the guys switched big/little and the ball handler didn't immediately attack and so our bigs were confused about whether to recover to their man or stick with the ballhandler, and their ball handlers be like "While you two talk that over, I'm gonna go score a layup."  And they'd walk unescorted right down the middle of the lane, pause a couple of seconds, yawn, and hit a layup. Meanwhile, our guys were still out up top saying, "Hey, there goes your man." And "Oh no, I switched, that was YOUR man." And, "Well, are you going to go get him before he scores?" And, "What, are you kidding me? And leave this deadly 3-point shooter open? Surely you jest."

We didn't shoot well from 3 and still found a way to score 80+ points.

Roby-- Amazing again

Palmer-- What we expected in game 1

Copeland-- Will be a solid role player for us.  Will not go off for 20+ a lot, but does the little things right.  I am ok with that.

Glynn-- Didn't shoot the 3 well, but an overall solid stat line.

Taylor-- Another solid role player.

Jordy-- Decent stat line even though he didn't play a lot.

Jack-- Had himself a Jack game.

Everyone Else--- Hope Allen is OK, Dube did Dube things.

First real test is on Thursday.  We could really use a big W.  That would probably put us at 4-0 heading to Orlando.  Go 2-1 there and we are at 6-1 heading into the tough stretch!  We can certainly do it.  We can play and hang with anyone.  We can match up with anyone.  Let's get the job done.

The best I've seen out of our offense was the first half against MSU and then the first half (and mostly just the first 10 minutes) tonight.

We've had 2 second halves (granted one was just an exhibition, but it was against a Power 5 team) that were pretty bad.

We need to get our 3-point shooting going.  The guys who can hit just aren't looking enough for their shots.

Was a bit worried about Thomas Allen going down hard.

And then Miles said in his post game that Copeland's back is stiff ...

The guys held up the husker signs of the husker power chant while people were still trying to show the color guard due respect. As previously mentioned, they started it too soon. Need to wait until the away teams lineups are being announced. Duby is fun to watch, he lives to block shots. Our length and athleticism compared to last years is much improved. I still have an IV of kool aid flowing right now. I like this team quite a bit.

Postgame Notes:

*-Nebraska’s 52-point first half was the most since scoring 53 vs. Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 22, 2015. It marked just the third time under Coach Miles that the Huskers have scored 50 or more points in a first-half (Arkansas State, 2013-14).
*-Nebraska totaled nine blocked shots, matching its highest total under Tim Miles.
*-Isaac Copeland’s four blocked shots are a collegiate career high. He had three blocked shots three times while at Georgetown, most recently on March 3, 2015 against Butler).
*-In the first half, Nebraska had nine players crack the scoring column and played 12 players, including the debuts of Nana Akenten and Thorir Thorbjarnarson.
*-Nebraska had an 18-0 run in the first half, and led 25-2 in the first 8:08 of the contest. In the previous meeting in 2006-07, Nebraska raced out to an 18-2 lead and also won by 19 points.
*-Nebraska placed five players in double figures for the first time since March 3, 2017 at Minnesota.
*-Nebraska got to the foul line 41 times, the most since going to the line 48 times against Penn State on Feb. 20, 2014. Nebraska shot 75 percent on Monday after shooting just 59 percent from the line in the opener.

Nebraska Head Coach Tim Miles

On tonight's performance

"I thought we were locked in. I thought that we've learned from our previous start where we didn't share the ball and didn't guard the ball. We had two goals tonight; pass the ball, guard the ball. I thought we did that well for a long time. We jumped way out on them, and Grant's (McCasland) a very good coach so he's not going to let you get far away from them. You know, when you're up that early, there's always kind of impending okay here we go. I thought even until their center hit two threes and then a couple of our freshman gave up two threes, otherwise we played really solid, 32 possessions of defense."

On if the team was able to get into a flow in the second half

"It's tough. What I look for are did we take the right kind of shots. Did we make the right decisions to get us the right kind of shots. We hadn't repped out any zone attack in about four or five days because we knew Eastern Illinois was not going to play any. Now Grant hadn't showed any or much, but being at Baylor I knew that that might come out so we talked about it yesterday and today, but we couldn't do much yesterday or today. I also kind of wanted them to see what we could discover. Who's going to get into the gaps. The 1-1-3 is a little different from the traditional 2-3 so we hadn't had any reps against that. You almost have to attack that differently and I probably would've in retrospect have a different kind of man attack that we can run against man or zone. We ran it a few possessions. We didn't want to run many specials just because I thought we were in a good spot and you just let those guys figure it out sometimes. It didn't make for beautiful basketball, unfortunately. But I really like their mindset to start the game. They never really let the game get back tight at all."

On Isaac Copeland’s Impact

"I think that in time that he'll shoot the ball better. I don't expect him to struggle like that. He was critical in a bunch of rebounding and block shots. He's a facilitator too. He's a good passer. We can put him in some other positions to help him that way."

Junior guard James Palmer Jr.

On what was different about this game

“I think this game we focused on coming out strong. The last two games (the exhibition and home opener) we started out a little sluggish. I mean we started out good, but then we didn’t finish out the first half strong but today we finished the first half strong.”

Junior forward Jack McVeigh

On the difference between the first and second halves

“They went into the zone [in the second half], and we didn’t attack that as aggressively as we did the first half and then our defense slipped a little, our on-ball defense.

Junior guard Glynn Watson Jr.

On the impact of starting out strong

“I think everybody came out to play hard and didn’t think about making shots or anything, that took care of itself. So, I think that was the main key tonight-just coming out and playing hard.”

North Texas Coach Grant McCasland
On being down 25-2 early on:
“Give Nebraska credit because early they bullied us and beat us up on the glass and physically took us out of what we were trying to do, and we panicked a little bit. We’ll get better from it.”

On whether or not he was surprised that North Texas had one more field goal than Nebraska in a 19-point game:
“I think what you expect on the road in a Big Ten type atmosphere is you better do a great job guarding without fouling. That’s just what it boils down to. You’re playing on the road, and you foul, and you get them to the foul line early, you can’t win. Doesn’t even matter how many field goals you get.  I’m proud of how we at least competed down the stretch. We’ll look back on this with some disappointment I think later on in the year.”

On learning from the experience of facing Big Ten size:
“I think one thing is you try to prepare them for the fact that you get in the paint, you think you have a good angle around but then there’s a lot better length and you better learn to be aggressive but make the simple play for your teammate. As much as you try to prepare them for that, you get in the game and you still feel like you can maybe get the angle and get it up, and then it gets blocked or deflected, and they’re off to the races. I could count probably twenty times where that happened. We just got too deep in the paint and didn’t make a simple play for our teammates. And that comes with maturity.”

I gave up with about 3 minutes left.  It was so disjointed and I thought Kent and Matt really struggled because of that.  By the way they called the game, I thought NU shot about 30% from the FT line.

Glad they have some guys who appear to be able to take it to the rim, because it's beginning to look like the 3-pt shooting is going to suck rocks again.  Hopefully, they can make some progress in that category.

What's wrong with Jordy?  Is he still behind because of his injury/surgery?
