Don't bet on it.  Let things play out.  Ed leaving could be as simple as looking at the roster and seeing Isaac Copeland and Jordy as the probable front-line starters.

No need to hit the panic button just yet.  We had way too many stretch 4 types and needed more guards.

We're currently sitting with two true interior players.

One shot 39% from the field and often disrupted our own offense more often than he disrupted the other team's offense when on defense.  He got benched against Michigan because he was so intent on switching after every ball screen that he wouldn't even wait for the screen, twice Moe Wagner faked the screen and rolled to the basket unguarded while the ball was double teamed.  He has done some nice things occasionally but not often enough to help a team win very big.

The other had some impressive flashes on offense, but also had a lot of turnovers and a lot of missed bunnies.  On defense he ranged from okay on occasion to completely overwhelmed and lost on others.  He had a total of 8 blocked shots against conference teams.

I wouldn't call it a position of strength.  They'll have to add another guy.

Please keep in mind that Jordy was a true freshman who is still learning the game.  He's only played organized basketball for like 5 years now.  I think we can reasonably anticipate substantial off-season improvement from Jordy, not just in terms of skill but also in terms of physical abilities.  He's a big framed kid who has the ability to wear a lot more muscle without it slowing him down.  He's going to be hitting the weights in the off-season and should come back a much stronger and more explosive version of himself with an improved skill set as well.  And that's not pie-in-the-sky.  That's we-should-be-disappointed-by-anything-less.

Michael was our starting center 2 years ago when we had a better record than we did this year.  He started again this past season.  I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that he'll start again this coming year.  Before Ed announced his transfer, I predicted a starting lineup for next season that didn't include either Ed or Michael.  I think it's Jordy and Isaac Copeland.  I have Isaiah pencilled in at the 3.  And Glynn at point.  Then whichever guard is next best, be that Nana or James or Anton or a new recruit whose name we don't know yet.  Maybe Chris Darrington.

If I'm right -- and I didn't just suggest this lineup after I found out we wouldn't have Ed to stick in there -- then we still have Michael to back up both the 4 and the 5.  That's 6 players.  Jack can play the stretch 4.  That's seven.  And if Nana's not starting, I think he still plays.  That's 8.  If Evan is not the starting 2, he'll back both the 1 and 2.  So, let's say the starting 2 is James Palmer.  Then, Evan will get minutes at both guard spots and Nana will come back up both James and Isaiah.

That's 9 guys.  We aren't going to play any more than that on a routine basis.  But if we need another big, maybe we can get Mark Donnal from Michigan.  I'd be down with that.  Either way, I refuse to panic about Ed leaving.

This.

Also, I think Borchardt might be a dark horse for playing time next year.  Seems like a fire has been lit there.  He's a luxury walkon, IMO.

I think Borchardt and Costello are both high quality walkons. Don't think they see any meaningful time tho. Still, better to have good walkons than poor ones.

Borchardt may see time depending on signee's this spring and summer.

I love that we picked up Costello.  He's a legit midmajor D1 point guard from what I've seen on the film, and he's a 40+% 3pt shooter.  If we don't sign a point guard, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he ends up backing up Watson and getting 10minutes or so a game.  He's an elite passer and plenty explosive (in-game dunker), and he has a knack for playmaking in general, which implies a high IQ.  His only weakness is straight line speed.  Both of those guys are darkhorses.

Costello had only NAIA offers. I think he's an attempt to upgrade the practice squad (which actually is very important), with the outside chance of developing into a 3-point specialist. Borchardt gives us a banger for practice. I think the staff believes both of these have only remote chances of getting meaningful playing time.

I think Costello is similar to a Paul Velander.  I would be surprised if he doesn't end up having a similar impact, but I hear ya.  If I was betting, I'd bet against both, but I'd be holding my breath while I placed it.

The good news is that Memphis is also a dumpster fire right now.  While most years I would absolutely give Memphis the edge in recruiting, this year may be an exception.  I'd give us even odds in a head-to-head with the Tigers.

As long as he visits us too. Hopefully he doesn't shut it down after that first visit.

I see Jordan Cornish on that list....  Name sounds familiar.  did we offer him back in the day?

He decommitted late from Tennessee I think and then chose UNLV over us.  We must have not been too impressed with what he did there because I don't think we went after him at all when he inevitably transferred.
