Over the last 4 years Northwestern and Minnesota Basketball programs are doing more with way less in practice facilities, game arenas, money for coaches ect.  Both Northwestern and Minnesota Coaches were hire roughly at the same time as Nebraska hired Tim Miles.  I just don't see that the players are buying what Miles is selling as we look good on paper but seem to regress over the course of the season and is that why we see players and assistant coaches leaving every year Miles been at Nebraska.

Not implying anything with this at all, but if we're talking about two coaches who started at the same time in the Big Ten we saw that matchup tonight.

John Groce: 91-73 (33-52) 5th year at Illinois (NCAA 3rd Rd, NIT 2nd Rd, NIT 1st Rd)

Tim Miles: 75-82 (33-54) 5th year at Nebraska (NCAA 2nd Rd)

Different situations. Different expectations. But same timing, nonetheless.

Minnesota last year did less with more.  They had 8 wins TOTAL, and they had more talent than most teams.  Both of those coaches have zero trips to the NCAA tournament.  Granted, they probably make it this year.

Miles' first 2 years, his teams got better at the end of the season.  I think this year, we just are mentally fatigued.

Minnesota was a dumpster fire last year.  They won 8 games all season.  They won 2 games in conference.

Losses to USD, SDSU, and Milwaukee in the non conference.

They had multiple losses by 25 points in conference, one of those to Rutgers (their only win in conference)

There was even talk of Pitino being fired last year.

This year they are one of the best teams in the Big 10, despite a young roster.

Furthermore, Pitino's teams had regressed each of his first 3 years, winning 25 games and the NIT championship in year one to 18 then 8 wins.

I spent the last 20 years in the Twin cities, and everyone up there HATED little Ricky, hated him, until about 6 weeks ago. He had some transfers and recruits arrive just in time to save his bacon and give the Gopher faithful a reason to return to the Barn. Hopefully that will be our remedy as well. Haven't seen a Goldy game yet this year & am very much looking forward to tomorrow night.

Gophers were not more talented than most teams, unless you are including all conferences in college basketball.  They were extremely devoid of talent last year.  And what talent it did have was very raw.

If it can happen to Minnesota, it can happen to us.

Hate is maybe a little strong.  Fans were certainly split on Pitino just like they are with Miles.  As a Gopher fan I don't think it is correct to say everyone HATED him.
