Tyler Maye, Farmville Central HS, 6’1” 170 PG (MM-LM)

24.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 3.1 steals

If anyone didn’t know who Tyler Maye was coming into last season, they should definitely know who he is by now. Maye took NC by storm, leading his Farmville Central HS to an undefeated season, securing the 2A State Championship and State Title MVP honors as. Maye possesses one of the best jump-shots in NC.  He was deadly beyond the arc, from mid-range and finishing at the rim all least season in tune to 24 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists per game last season. Defensively he hounded opposing teams point guards and created a ton of easy scoring opportunities off of steals as well. Expect more of the same and more from the savvy lead guard entering into his senior season. Don’t be surprised to see his recruitment soar.

Looks like his school is classified as a 2A school in North Carolina, which, as far as I can tell, is the second highest class in NC. Can't find any summer stats for him, though.

Here's his hudl page: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/6944375/highlights

Actually, it seems to be the 2nd lowest class.

He was at a small private school in a large town his first 2 years and transferred back to his hometown last year where he led the team to a state championship where they didn't lose a game.

Currently people project him as a mid-major guard.  Seems like he can shoot, can score, can defend. Possibly high IQ guy that can ball.  Probably not a super athletic kid and probably would need to put on some weight. Possible that the smaller HS and AAU teams he plays for could be a factor on why he's not on anyone's radar.

Is it? It was hard to tell on the classification page.

A taller Benny, maybe, who is also more of a scoring threat! :)  (can hope the 'Heart' is the same)

(I'm not getting my hopes up tho; we seem to do better when I don't! ;))

It certainly is. I basically had to look at school enrollment numbers from a 2004 PDF to figure it out. It's possible they flipped them in the last decade but unlikely.  Also, Farmville has a population of just 4,753 in addition to being called Farmville.

Benny Parker II?

I don't think that's an apt comparison here as BP couldn't shoot and TM is on the right side of 6'. I'm thinking something more like Tarin Smith though it's really hard to figure out as I don't know much about this kid.

And, here, I thought Farmville only existed on Facebook...  :o

I think hes a guy you can continue to follow into the spring signing period and see his progression.  There's a not a major need to go out sign someone this fall unless they are a true difference maker.

Nice call!

I'd like to sign him ASAP. I don't think we're getting Allen or Smith and we seem to be striking out in the JUCO ranks. He has decent offers and is getting some attention from schools that are better than us so let's get him while we can. With 4 open schollies idk if we can really be picky.
