After hearing his interview on Sports Nightly, I have to say I'm impressed with him. Good hire. Professionally, it is a P5 school giving him a nice bump in pay but also a chance to mold some very talented young players (Especially Watson). I like his experience running the offense for Butler the last 2 years too...

He is growing on me.  His background as a recruiter, offensive coordinator, game scout along with his playing and coaching background could be a real good fit.

I may be all wet, but it looks to me that Hunter will concentrate his recruiting efforts on the East coast while Coach Lewis and Mo will likely focus on the Illinois and Indiana area.  We historically had good luck in Indiana.  Many, many good players from that State did well at Nebraska.

Yes Indiana kids names are all over our record books.

In the last decade the only guy from Indiana on the roster was  Bear Jones. During our time in the B1G we've had a guy from the Southern Hemisphere on every single team...zero from Indiana.

I guess I go back much longer than you dimes.  In the 70's and early 80's many of our best players came out of Indiana...Steve Willis, Brian Banks, Carl McPipe, Jerry Shoecraft, Jack Moore, Eric Williams, just to name a few.  I would have zero issues reestablishing that pipeline.

Not sure about the 90s but Jones and Brennon Clemmons are the only guys this century from Indiana

Jack Moore, Brian Carr, Jamar Johnson and Henry T. Buchanan also come to mind as Indiana natives who did well with Nebrasketball.

The other narrative about "traditionless Nebraska" is also a bit shallow IMO.

It's like "they have no tradition there, how DARE they even bother to try improving themselves, who do they think they are???  BUTLER???"

Here's a tradition for ya...Nebraska hoops hiring Butler coaches away (Collier, Lewis) because they recognize opportunity when they see it?

Also this line kills me "and almost no tradition (quick, name five Nebraska players. Ever.)"  I decided to reverse that statement and replace Nebraska with Butler and try it.  I couldn't even make it to one.  So yeah, this guy has quite the bad case of butthurt today, huh?

You really can't name a single Butler player? You need to watch more basketball!

More Utah Jazz basketball, especially.  They have two Bulldogs on the freaking roster.  You seriously don't remember Gordon Hayward or Shelvin Mack?!?  Gordon has averaged 20-5-4 the past two seasons.  That's NBA All-Star level ball.

That said, Butler produced zero NBA-level before those two.  People have short memories.  It's all about what have you done lately, and Butler is definitely winning that battle.

But on a more serious note, if we are seriously using the term "butt hurt" on this board, then we have reached our nadir.  I'd fully expect to see that used on a Buffs/Mizzou board, but I'd like to think we can do better, fellas.  Save that kind of nonsense for your playground rock fights.

At first blush, this guy seems like he might be the best assistant hire Miles has made since after he was hired. So much for the rats leaving a sinking ship narrative.

Kenya was kind of a  beast when we got him.  Georgetown > Butler?   Kenya has some recruiting cred after some of his gets here.  If Lewis ends up being the best hire that will say something great about Lewis.  Molinari was no slouch when we got him either (even if he catches hell on here), from a reputation in the basketball world.  I love the Lewis hire, but from a "where's he at; what's he done" standpoint, I don't have him jumping out as the best hire.

I agree. To me Lewis is more of a 'solid' hire that 'makes sense' instead of a 'whoa' hire. Now, Lewis could certainly turn out to be that 'whoa' guy but even some of our 'whoa' hires have flopped.

Sorry, but "butthurt" is the perfect term for what has been coming out of central Indiana over the past few days. Especially from the guy in Ft. Wayne.

What metrics are you using for evaluation?  Recruiting?  Regular season performance?  Post season performance?  Some food for thought...

GU w/ Hunter

2007-2008 - 28-6 - NCAA 2nd Round (won 1st round against #15 UMBC, lost 2nd round against #10 Davidson)

2008-2009 - 16-15 - NIT 1st Round (lost 1st round against Baylor)

2009-2010 - 23-11 - NCAA 1st Round (lost 1st round against #14 Ohio)

2010-2011 - 21-11 - NCAA 2nd Round (lost 2nd round against #11 VCU)

2011-2012 - 24-9 - NCAA 3rd Round (won 2nd round against #14 Belmont, lost 3rd round against #11 NC State)

2012-2013 - 25-7 - NCAA 2nd Round (lost 2nd round against #15 Florida Gulf Coast)

BU w/ Lewis

2011-2012 - 22-15 - CBI Semifinal - (won 1st round against Delaware, won quarterfinal against Penn, lost semifinal against Pitt)

2012-2013 - 27-9 - NCAA 3rd Round (won 2nd round against #11 Bucknell, lost 3rd round against #3 Marquette)

2013-2014 - 14-17 - No post-season

2014-2015 - 23-11 - NCAA 3rd Round (won 2nd round against #11 Texas, lost 3rd round against #3 Notre Dame)

2015-2016 - 22-11 - NCAA 2nd Round (won 1st round against #8 Texas Tech, lost against #1 Virginia)

GU won a grand total of two post-season games while Kenya was there.  That's despite having TEN players that would play in the NBA, two of whom would be lottery picks.  Hibbert narrowly missed being a lottery pick and probably would've been had he left after the conclusion of his junior season (before Kenya arrived).  Granted, that's two more NCAA tourney games than we have ever won, but still...absolutely terrible given the talent they had to work with.  Their wins were against a #14 and #15 seed, otherwise they were always upset by double-digit seeded teams.  Kenya had no role in recruiting Hibbert, nor do I believe he played much of a part in bringing-in Monroe or Porter.

Lewis had more NCAA tournament wins over his tenure with Butler than Hunter did with GU, and their losses came against #1 and #3 seeds.  They did this with players who logged ZERO minutes in the NBA.  And those last three years were without Brad Stevens, too.  While he doesn't deserve all of the credit, he helped take a somewhat bare cupboard and get them back to the basketball Promised Land.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the Kenya hire and still think he is an excellent coach, recruiter, and human being in general.  Love his passion and commitment to our team, as well.  But this was a case of one hire who was starting to trend downward, and one who is heading upward.  Hunter made waves because of the GU pedigree and timing, early on in the Tim Miles Era, but I think Lewis is still a big splash.  Hope to see them both have lots more success while wearing red!

Hmmm...  I guess I always thought it was more of a cop-out insult for sophomoric, uncreative trolls with origins rooted in homophobia/transphobia?  Whose usage is usually an incredibly strong indicator of ignorance, along with a preference for the literary works of Ayn Rand or the unwavering support for the US Presidential campaign of Donald Trump.  My apologies, didn't mean to get butthur...no.  Just no.

That said, my parents lived in Ft. Wayne for around two years and I can confidently confirm that both the city and its inhabitants are generally pretty shitty.

"Fort Wayne?  What exactly do you have that's worth protecting?!?"*

*Disclaimer:  joke may have been stolen from Jerry Seinfeld's stand-up act in Ft. Wayne, IN circa 2004.

Nah man, the first definition here in the handy dandy Urban Dictionary is all you need.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ButtHurt

The term has no homophobic overtones. That's just your bleeding heart liberal mind taking you places that don't exist.

Those were strong hires in those circumstances, yes.  I'm thinking more along the lines of he played for Bobby Knight at IU and left the school as its all-time leader in assists.  How many top coaches were point guards?  He's shown stability in his coaching stops and he apparently handled kind of an offensive coordinator role for a Butler team that was consistently in the post-season.  Plus, according to Dimes, he's a Recruiter with a capital R.

Offensive Xs and Os guy who is a strong recruiter.  And he approached Miles about the opening, not the other way around.

At first blush to me at least, this looks like a pretty good hire.
