    2016 SG Kwe Parker

Let's see.... so if he signs, we would be replacing a 5-9 Parker with a 6-2 Parker. Any chance that there are these individuals available in the 2016 class? a 7-3 Pitchford a 6-11 Petteway a 6-11 Shields

  2. Pointing out higher expectations is a far cry from blaming a loss on an individual. It's the difference between asking someone to enter a bus and pushing someone underneath it.

  3. This. My initial thought when I read the thread title was, "Isn't everyone nominated for McDonald's AA?" The state of Nebraska only had one nominee (Justin Patterson) I don't believe we've had a McD's All-American on the roster before. It looks like Kerry Trotter from Creighton Prep in '82 is the only Nebraskan to make a Men's team. I thought Joe McCray was. No wait, his was based on in-restaurant performance....

  4. That would be unsporting since Moses is playing with a broken hand.

  5. I just watched his junior highlights on hudl. (Sometimes it's nice to get stuck on a boring conference call. This was one of those times.) http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3213707/highlights/135426375 Fantastic court awareness. Very smart player; anticipates extremely well. Certainly understands how to drive, how to get the opposing defender off balance or committing one direction and then driving hard the other way, so that he can create just enough space to get by. And he's able to finish. That's key. Although, a major college recruit who stands 6'3" or 6'4" would be throwing it down at the finish on some of those. But he knows how to get the roll, and that's something some players just seem to have. Seems to be at least an adequate shooter. Just more reps and I think he'll be there. Would like to see him develop a mid-range jumper off the dribble. Needs to add about a foot to his no-step vertical leap. Saw some place said he has like a 25 inch vertical and that should probably be at least 36". Improving his vertical should improve his quickness as well. I think schools like UNO are missing the boat not offering this kid. I think he's a D-1 caliber player at some level and can certainly see why Tony thinks he could develop into a contributor for us. He's not quite there athletically yet. But his hoops ability is, at least where you'd want it to be for a junior in HS (which is what his tape was.) Like the kid. Good addition, especially when it's as low risk as it is, him being a walk-on and all.

  6. Head injuries are nothing to mess with and these are college kids. Playing rough hoping a post-concussion player might struggle in response doesn't strike me as the most sportsmanlike thing to attempt. I realize that, and I do not think uneb was calling for us to take a shot at his head. I think he was more or less saying that we need to go right at him. Honestly you are right, they are nothing to mess with (Concussions). But if he was not in the right condition to play, he should not have been cleared to play. We should not have to "take it easy" with him because he has had a concussion. Do I want us to take a cheapie? NO... but do I want us to take it easier because he has had a concussion? ABSOLUTELY NOT

  7. I'm not saying he's dropped off at all... But he hasn't raised his stock from where he was projected last year. People have acted like it's a high probability he'll go, but kids don't usually leave early to maybe be a late-second round pick. I realize McVeigh had NBA aspirations, but I had no idea he was being projected as an NBA pick. I'm concerned about this "not raising his stock" comment, though. Does that mean he's not as good as what we thought he was? Or what? The status of Terran McVeigh is very much influx

    2016 SG Kwe Parker

Marques Bolden says, hey, listen, Coach Miles, I need to know that you're going after a top-shelf shooting guard so that I'll have some other good players around me if I go there. Tim calls back and says, hey, how about Kwe Parker? Would that be top shelf enough for you? Marques pauses and says Oh. Yeah, that'd be good. Go big or go home, right?* * The above conversation came from the imagination of Norm Peterson.

  10. Having a big man as a freshman with good footwork and strength is a rarity in college basketball. Most big guys come in with little footwork, touch, or strength. But I would argue that big men, in general, tend to make the biggest improvements in a 4 year college career. Instead of looking for a finished product, if I were a college bball coach I would focus on finding guys that have distinguishable roads to improvement (guys that have "upside"), and have the "can do" attitude and work ethic to improve

  11. A "medical redshirt" allows a player to get an extra year of eligibility if (1) she has played in 10 or fewer games, and (2) has a season-ending injury. Banham had played in 10 or fewer games, AND had a season-ending injury. I don't know how strict the NCAA would be on the second requirement. One would think a chronic stress reaction might qualify, and a doctor could state that rest through the season is indicated. But Connie suggested on her show that Chandler and Jasmine couldn't meet the "season-ending injury" part of the test for a medical redshirt. A non-medical redshirt is only available when the player does not play at all. So Chandler's 4 minutes in one game disqualifies her for a standard redshirt. I would think they could get the season-ending requirement given the chronicity of her problem. However, based on Connie's remarks last night, either we think she can help us this year and therefore we don't want to pursue a medical redshirt, or they think she couldn't meet the second requirement. it used to be a percentage of games played (20%), but I believe it has now changed to a certain number of games. Probably to be more fair to the players on teams that don't make the postseason.

  13. A good big was needed in the mountain west. Miles had one. Colton Iverson? We tried to recruit him too if my memory serves.Edit: saw from Google he was a transfer and played one year. Blossomed though it seems

  14. Not sure what it means, or if it means anything, but maybe our B1G schedule so far hasn't been too bad: Indiana now 3-1 in conf play, tied for 1st Iowa now 3-1 in conf play, tied for 1st (with 2 road wins) Rutgers 2-2 in conf play, tied for 8th - beat then-#4 Wisconsin in next game after losing to NU Illinois 1-3 in conf play, 12th - beat then-#9 Maryland in preceding game before losing to NU NU's two conf wins both by double digits, led entire 2nd half in both NU's two conf losses, had a 2nd half lead in both The latter half of our league schedule will be very tough, but the opening portion hasn't been easy either, other than getting 3 of the first 4 at home.

  15. You don't need to be 6'10. Charles Barkley was a freak but he was a 6'4 post. We just need someone to be an actual threat down there and Pitchford should be able to do it if he wants.
