Overall, this was a must needed win and possibly a must win to not let the entire season derail.  MSU was hungry and don't think that Izzo wasn't coaching for a much needed win on his side of the court either.  The loser of tonight fell to 0-2 in the Big 10 AND their season has totally gone off the rails.  Hopefully MSU can turn it around a bit and that can be a quality(ish) win for us later on.

    - If we play a little bit better D in the first half, we probably win this one going away.  Honestly, we looked like we belonged with MSU and that was nice to see.

    - Mast played like a man tonight.  Hopefully that continues as we continue to face big posts throughout the year.

    - We didn't seem to miss Allick as much as I thought we would.  However, it will be nice to have him back.  One thing we need less of is the Mast/Allick threes that get hoisted with 20 seconds left on a shot clock.  Allick didn't do any tonight, but Mast had a couple and they were way off.  We can get that look most any time we want late.

    - JLaw is about a frustrating to watch as the team sometimes.  He has really good moments and then some moments were it's like... what are you doing man.  I still think he'll be a key piece for this team though.

    - I won't lie-- I was happy to see Boogie sit and watch this one.  I was very disappointed in his effort in the few minutes at Minny.

    - With the above came Rice's time to play again and he did fairly well I thought in his limited role.  I'd much rather see him moving forward as I think he's a much bigger threat on the O end.

    - Still forcing a few shots that just aren't needed.  Keisei is one of those that forced a few tonight.  He doesn't really have a ton that I get mad about when he shoots... even contested threes.  It's the back to the basket and dribble fade aways that I don't like from him.

    - Absolutely did not realize Gary gave us 20 tonight!  HUGE.  Quiet 20 really.

    - Credit to our role players tonight.  A solid night for CJ and the other players played their roles well (Sam, Matar, Eli)

Much needed win.  A lot better effort than last week.  Seemed to move the ball better when times were tough.  Also, shot selection was good.  I only said a few times,  that was a bad shot.  Of course, it helps when shots fall.

I agree with Hummel.  You need to make the 2nd half Minnesota debacle a good learning experience.  Tonight we seemed to learn.  Keep building.

Key stats.  8 offensive rebounds for MSU. 12 to 12 in points off turnovers and 2nd chance points.  13 - 15 on free throws.

*For all that thought the world had ended; it hasn't.

*A lot of people quit on this team, I am glad the team didn't quit.

*Good job coaching staff in how they prepared, adjusted; but perhaps most importantly how they handled minutes and substitutions...especially Reink's minutes.

*The defense looked very sharp tonight.  We were slow to get back at times in the first half; but overall, nice job.

*Our offensive spacing and movement was excellent.

*All the players who participated,  contributed, and did so effectively.

    Great win!

    Get well Josiah!

    Learn your lessons Boogie.

We beat a solid MSU team by playing good, not great basketball. Made some timely shots. Mostly, it was hustle plays that might not show up in the stat sheet. The work Sam Hoiberg did on their leading scorer, for example. Sometimes, it's more about the size of the fight in the dog and tonight we showed some fight.

Just will add one thing - when Walker hit the 2nd straight 3 and MSU finally took the lead around the 5 minute mark, it would've been easy for us to panic and lose our poise like we did the last two games. We didn't. That's a big step forward in my book. With a veteran team like this, we should be able to survive those body blows and fight back. Tonight we did it.

Honestly, if we get back on defense and finish at the rim in the first half, we could've won that thing going away. But we hit a couple of prayer 3s in the first half, too, so it all evens out, I guess.

At one point in the first half, and I do not think it was at the mid-point yet, we noted that we had missed 4 bunnies and had failed to get back on defense four times.  We did get those issues resolved soon thereafter.

Putting Sam on Walker was enormous.  That really turned the game around.  If I was coach I would switch Sam and Lawrence’s roles.  Sam makes very few mistakes and Jamarcus….well, yeah.

Last time we beat MSU I was watching it in the hospital with my youngest son the day after he was born. This time I was also watching it with him. I was getting some work done at my mom's house and he kept getting me score updates. Raising em right...

    Well, today I learned:

    From UNL

    • Nebraska’s win snapped an 11-game losing streak to Michigan State. It was the Huskers’ first victory over the Spartans since Jan. 20, 2016.
    • NU outscored Michigan State 46-36 in the second half. The 46-point second half marked the Huskers’ highest-scoring half in their last 25 games against Big Ten teams dating back to a 49-point first half at Penn State on Feb. 27, 2022.
    • NU shot 50 percent in the game (27-of-54), including 64.0 percent from the field in the second half (16-of-25). Each of those marked Nebraska’s second-best effort of the season, as the Huskers shot 55 percent against Stony Brook on Nov. 12, including 65.5 percent in the second half.
    • It also marked the first time MSU had allowed an opponent to shoot 50 percent since the 2022 NCAA Sweet 16.  The previous opponent high this season was .458 by Arizona on Nov. 23.
    • Nebraska was 13-of-15 from the free throw line in the game, including 11-of-13 in the second half. The Huskers made their final 11 free throws to close out the game.
    • Nebraska is shooting 86.3 percent (82 of 95) from the foul line over the last five games.
    • The Huskers’ seven-point victory marked Nebraska’s first game this season decided by single digits.
    • Nebraska hit 10 3-pointers in the game, marking the Huskers’ fourth game of the season with double-digit 3-pointers.
    • Juwan Gary tied his career high with 20 points in his first start of the season. That matched his scoring output against Duquesne on Nov. 22.
    • Rienk Mast had a career-high six assists to go along with a game-high 14 rebounds. Mast had five of his six assists and 10 of his 14 rebounds in the second half.
    • Brice Williams scored all of his 14 points in the second half, making all four of his field goal attempts.

Great win - and a much needed one tonight.

Mast was completely different player tonight from Wednesday.   MSU bigs are not as physical as the Minnesota ones were - but Reink really had a nice game.

For the most part we let the game come to us tonight which was different from Minnesota where players seemed to be forcing things too much.   Particularly Brice who did not score in the 1st half but made some huge plays  in the 2nd half.   The 3 he hit to give us the lead with 2 minutes left was probably the biggest shot of the night - and obviously made some clutch free throws at the end.

I for one think this team is fun to watch.   They play very hard on D and play together well.

I get that the goaltending call was a bad call - but I don't think it is fair to reverse it 3 minutes later.   Particularly when the other ref made a very obvious make-up call on the very next play that I don't think there is any way he calls if the goaltending call had not been made.  Izzo really got in the ref's heads a couple of times tonight and was very effective at getting calls as a result.   If you are going to review that call do it right away - too much stuff happens in 3 minutes of play before you go back to it.

I was out of town for the Creighton game and did not go to Minnesota - so I have seen us play live 8 times this year and we have won all 8.   Anyone want to buy me a ticket to the game in Manhattan?  :)

I think it's the fact that no one knew it had been reviewed in the arena is what caused some consternation.

Yeah, I was in PBA and had no idea what was happening l
