But seriously,

That is one...beefy...kid!  Looks a little more like a Rugby player to me.

Take a look at him on the second site referencing his Brazlian team adventure.  He looks much more mature.  The photo I posted above I believe may have been from two, maybe three years ago.  He looks much more "fit" in the photo in his Brazilian garb.

Just so long as he's not quite the 'size' of the Great Ship Almeida. ;)

He's definitely less of a man than Almeida if you're going by physical mass

He could be a fraction of the mass of the Great Ship Almeida & be quite svelte.

I couldn't find any video of this guy, but stats-wise, he was averaging over 30 min/game and scoring just under 10 pts and 9 bds/game.  On a really bad Brown team (Kenpom ranking of #261) that played in a really bad conference.  Putting up 10 and 9 in the Ivy League doesn't impress me.

Compare this Brown kid with a similar size (6'8" 230#) player from UNO (Kenpom # 248) who played 25 min/game, scored over 10 ppg and almost 8 bds.  So, similar size, similar numbers. But the UNO guy only scored 2 pts against US (as bad as we were inside, especially early on) to go along with 8 rebounds.  I don't think any of us would be clambering to get Mike Rostampour if he were transferring from UNO, and I'm not overwhelmed by the prospects of landing this kid from Brazil by way of Brown.

No film.  But my guess is he's a bit lacking in foot speed and explosiveness at that size and weight.  He's a decent player for an Ivy League school but don't imagine for a moment he'll produce those kinds of numbers in the Big Ten.

I would tend to agree, but with 2 open scholies at the moment, and him being a 1 year guy, wouldn't be a bad try to get 1 year out of him if all else fails, its a big body.

He shouldn't be on the top of our list but he's a guy that can play 10-20 minutes for us next year. He seems like Leslee Smith, a valuable role player, without the injury baggage.

Yep.

We need competent bigs for next year...even in a role player setting.

If nothing else...hes a role guy off the bench that can take some pressure off of Hammond and Morrow

According to Lee Barfknecht:

"The Huskers, sources said, are gathering information on but not yet fully recruiting two possible fifth-year graduate transfers — 6-9, 223-pound Tyler Harris from Providence and 6-9, 245-pound Rafael Maia from Brown."

Hmmm, the 3rd leading scorer on the #30 team in the nation vs. the 5th leading scorer on the #261 team in the nation per Pomeroy.
