That chokehold on Fuller courtesy of #10 was pretty damn malicious. I think you could argue NU didn't deserve more free throws in some of the recent games, but 25-7 in tonights game is a bunch of crap.

If we can see this team the rest of the year, we might have a nice little run.

Great game for the most part.

The technical and Terran's fourth foul were head scratchers.

So what was the full story about the technical?

It was assigned to the bench. Not sure if that means it was something besides TP.

When Coach Miles looked at the bench after the technical, it appeared that Kenya pointed at himself.  Yet the announcers said it was on TP and TP's actions lead one to believe it was on him.  So, all that said, I still have no clue why and to whom the technical was given

The announcers first thought it was on Miles. They then thought it was on TP based on his reaction and it's pretty common to misinterpret him. They didn't offer specifics so it didn't seem like they knew.

The foul was assessed to the bench. I am unsure if it's possible to assign a technical to an individual sitting on the bench.

Not sure if Kenya was taking the blame there or if he said that he'd take care of the issue.

I'm sure someone will ask him today

It sure looked to me like Kenya was saying "It's on me".  Of course, he could have been covering for a player so that a personal foul wasn't assessed, but it did look like he was accepting responsibility.

Okay so they showed the player introductions last night and I thought what the Maryland students did was, well, frankly it was lame and not creative at all.  If anyone missed it what they did was to simply yell "sucks" after the PA announcer said the players' names.

It makes me just that much better about the Husker Power chant.

Didn't we do that at one time?  We also turned our backs at one time?  Perhaps my memory is fading.

Individuals players cannot be assessed technical fouls if they are on the bench; it becomes a team technical foul. At least that's what the announcers clarified later in the game.

I have a tweet from Matt Davison that says the tech was not on TP

Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Whoever it was on it was really poor officiating.   I am sure someone said something but it was not like anyone was trying to get in the refs face or being aggressive in any way.   Another case of a ref looking for a reason to call a technical instead of doing whatever they can to avoid that situation.  Similar (though not as bad) as the "boom" technical on Shields.

I personally don't get that wound up (anymore) about bad calls during play or foul discrepancies.   Bad calls happen because people make mistakes and there are usually other reasons that also play into differences in the number of fouls - many of which are legitimate.

What I really hate is refs that have a bad attitude and try to make themselves the focus of the game rather than the play on the court.   Calling that T last night was just a ref trying to show up the Nebraska bench and make sure everyone know he was there and he was "in charge".    A good ref doesn't feel the need to do those kind of things.

yeah they did the "who cares, he sucks" thing at one time, they also did the pretend to read the newspaper thing too

Still Husker Power is great, IMO.  It's unique and can get very loud!

Plus, you can attribute the start of that tradition to the folks here on HHC ;)

I would think that Jimmy Jackson of BTN & a veteran basketball player would understand that any tech called on the bench is a 'team' tech, but I guess not. He went on & on that it was a tech on TP & that it also counted as a personal foul... blah, blah, blah.

Do these guys on the BTN broadcast get paid to be uninformed!? I figured any former player should know a basic rule, am I asking too much of these guys?  Shoot, Dave Revsine wrote a book on the history of football & its' rules. Color me unimpressed with these guys lack of knowledge of a fairly simple rule interpretation.

They get paid because they can talk and in some cases they can talk a lot. Color guys have often been iffy since the begining.

That's why I was so surprised by Jimmy Jackson. He played hoops at the highest levels for a long, long time. Personally, I think he ought to know that rule,  IMHO.

Just watched the game on replay as I missed the original time.  Some good things by NU in this game that gives me hope that the team might come together in the next few games.  Pitchford hitting shots was big but getting some offensive rebounds was a big help.  Fuller was able to match up on defense and was not a liability at that end.  Kudos to Pettaway for the 9 assists.
