The Creighton program and their fan base feels VERY threatened by us. They want to control this game. They need to control this game. They play in a bad league. This is their chance every year to try and save face. And it showed tonight. They played very very well on defense. An effort they do not bring every night. And they are way more skilled offensively than we are at this point. Things have fallen into place perfectly for them with Doug etc. If they bring this kind of effort on defense every night, the sky is the limit. Lets not overreact. Just because we played well a couple times leading to this game does not mean that we don't have an extremely small margin for error on offense. We are going to have outings like this this year. And we will overachieve and make shots sometimes as well. But we did play hard. So did Creighton. They have a damn good team and we played about as bad as possible on offense which makes it look worse than it is. We will be okay friends. This is the first year of a 4 year or so process. There is little doubt that we will be better than Creighton down the road. Obviously this year is not going to be one of them. Lets hang in there.

Very well said! As we were walking out of the Bob and a bunch of Jays fans were shouting and carrying on I made the comment "congrats, you just beat the team picked last in the BIG!" My friends that we went with are Creighton grads and fans and even they laughed. Better days are ahead for us. I can't wait until the first matchup at PBR in two years, things will look much different by then!

It felt like Creighton thought they were in a NCAA game.

McDermett throwing up his arms after getting to shoot free throws for travelling was especially fun.

Or the time he flexed his muscles at the Red Zone after that scrum at midcourt (which he had nothing to do with, was probably still flopping somewhere on the court).

He's good, CU is good, but as others have pointed out, it will be interesting to see what happens when Doug, Echinique, Gibbs, Wragge and Jones are gone....ALL of those guys are Altman's recruits and Doug is Greg's son.

I can see this series turning for the best in NU's favor in the next few years. I think the caliber of player we are bringing in is better, and I think Miles knows how to coach, evaluate talent and get players signed.

Its no secret this season is going to be rough, but I'm still damn happy with our results. Nobody I bet had us penciled in at 6-2 at this point. The guys play with more swagger than I have seen from an NU team in a LONG time. Miles is a VERY confident person and I think as he gets his players in he will get them to be as well. The guy has turned around programs from scratch before and I believe he will here too.

Are we really ragging on them for taking this game seriously? Everyone was treating it as a big game going in.

Our players need to have this type of attitude in the game as well. Rivalries are supposed to have a big game atmosphere. I have no problem with their players treating it like a big game.

Let me first say there are plenty of decent Creighton fans who love their team just like I love the Huskers. They would treat me well in their place and I would return the favor here. There is, however, a segment of the Creighton fanbase that acts ... y'know ... like they're compensating for something.

I saw a guy at the game last night wearing a "Best (ranked) Show" t-shirt, which is obviously a reference to what Coach Miles said about the success of Nebraska football being attributable in part to the fact that they're the only show in town, which, in football, is absolutely true.

I'm sorry, but ANY CREIGHTON FAN WHO THINKS THAT SHIRT IS CLEVER MUST HAVE A VERY TINY PENIS.

There. I said it. I'm sorry, but that shirt idea just screams, "I'm so insecure in my manhood that I feel threatened very easily."

Well said, Royal, I was thinking to myself during the game they really were getting excited for how ugly their win was last night. Congratulations, Bluejays...you've achieved lofty status there, joining the ranks of, well, Kent State in beating us. It's a pretty remarkable achievement.

Again, are they not supposed to get excited for winning? Do you rip on our players when they get excited about beating Wake Forest and joining the likes of Richmond and Iona?

It's a game and they are excited to win it. I'd hope our guys would be excited if they had won the game, too.

Gibbs is a McDermott recruit. Obviously so is Doug. Chatman too. The fact that not one single player transferred out after Dana left says something about Greg McDermott in my book too.

Good luck on the rest of the noncon and in the Big 10.

And McDermott put together some nice teams at Northern Iowa, too. He's a really good coach who fits better in the mid-major ranks. Creighton will be just fine moving forward, maybe not Top-15 good, but good nonetheless.

Hey, Creighton Fan, you guys have a very impressive team this year. I mean that sincerely. Lots of great pieces. Enjoy this run. Special teams are special because they don't come around that often. Ask any Nebraska football fan who was around from '94-'97. Enjoy it while it's there.

Thank you.

Now, go take it to Dana and Oregon. I'll be rooting for you guys.

I really like Greg McDermott, I had the privilege of driving him and Doc home from the airport one night. He was very gracious and I actually had a good conversation with him. He asked where I was from and actually knew where it was because of his days at Wayne St. (no one knows where I'm from when I tell them.) Overall a very likable person, and he's a pretty good basketball coach, built a good team at Northern Iowa, was in the same situation we are at Iowa St. and has done a good job at Creighton.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that this is arguably the best team Creighton Prep has EVER had. Last time I checked their coach doesn't have any more 1st team All-Americans sons waiting in the wings. The tables in this "rivalry" are about to turn quickly in our favor. We are now recruiting with the cache' of the Big 10 in our hip pocket, they will still be in the MVC when McDermott leaves.

Are you sure on Gibbs? I was thinking Dana was the one that got him here and McDermott got him to stay? Obviously you would know more than I would in regards to CU.

CU has a GREAT team and I credit them for it. They do lose a lot (especially Doug) so as others have said, really enjoy this. Not that they can't continue to be great, but right now the "stars have alligned" very well for them. Getting Doug being the biggest of them all.

I am quite sure.

Gibbs transferred from Gonzaga the summer after McDermott was hired. Gibbs is from Lin-Mar, Iowa, attended basketball camps McDermott ran while at UNI and knew Doug. Greg McDermott also had recruited Gibbs hard out of high school, before Gibbs selected Gonzaga. After he decided to transfer, Gibbs narrowed his options down to Northern Iowa and Creighton. He ultimately selected Creighton because of his past experience with Greg McDermott and his desire to play with Doug. If Dana would have still been at Creighton, Gibbs would be playing for Northern Iowa.

The ESPN guys talked about that during the broadcast.

Creighton NEEDS to beat Nebraska much more than Nebraska NEEDS to beat Creighton.

I have heard a couple other people say this but I don't understand what it means, why does Creighton need to beat us more than we need to beat them?
