Most embarrassing loss in recent program history?

Because of expectations, no doubt about it. Absolutely.

Also the fact that this is a second year transition school. This is completely awful. Pathetic. Embarassing.

I am EMBARASSED to be a Nebraska basketball fan. People I haven't heard from in months are texting me and laughing. And the game has been over five minutes.

We deserve better than this crap. Injury to Abraham? I don't care if we were playing without Petteway and Shields. An NCAA Tournament caliber Big 10 school NEVER loses to Incarnate Word. Spare me the Michigan talk. At least EMU and NJIT are much more established programs.

But worst part about tonight?

Have fun trying to recruit with this debacle, as people like Fran McCaffrey will use it against you all day, as will Greg McDermott after they own us and we drop this.

Also, the fact that this all but guarantees the NIT is our ceiling - and at this point, that's pushing it.

This is NOT a good basketball team right now. And that's putting it kindly.

We'll get better next year with AWIII, Watson, and Morrow...

The writing was on the wall that this would be a  bad year. The loss to a shitty rhode island team was not a warning, but reality. Omaha was beating us pretty good for a good chunk of the game against them. The loss to the mediocre creighton team confirmed what type of season this will be. This loss to Word isn't even suprising

Hope leslee smith and moses return, thats our only hope

Dave, relax.

Incarnate Word played really well and that one guy made some shots he'll likely not ever make in another game this season.

They got a HUGE assist from the refs.

And we made some boneheaded mistakes at the very end.

But, otherwise, I didn't think we played too badly.

It's OK, guys.  We'll live.

Even in a "bad year" we can NOT ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever lose to Incarnate Word.

That may be true, Norm, but at the end of the day, it shows a LOSS to Incarnate Word, a school that approximately 23 people outside of the state of Texas have heard of, its a second loss in a row at home and it ends any NCAA talk, barring a Top 4 Big 10 finish. At least Michigan will also be joining us on the outside, if we're looking for silver linings.

Or Maryland Baltimore County.

Or Alaska Anchorage.

Or ...

Guys, it's gonna be OK.

Last panicked post of the night ( because I AM panicked - I'm livid).

Two-three more non conference losses will make it very challenging to even make the NIT, since you need a winning record.

Time to go grab a couple of beers - I'm out.

But Norm, those losses came in years we were picked middle to low end Big 12. NOT when we started the year in the Top 25, picked 4th in the Big 10 and with 4.5 starters back. Not even comparable.

If this was just one bad game, I wouldn't be concerned.

But we have looked like absolute garbage ever since the 2nd half of the Big Ten tourney game against Ohio State.

Sadly, this.

In my opinion, until we learn and/or decide to play good defense we'll be lucky to make the NIT this year.  No urgency on defense that I can tell.  Pitchford got OWNED tonight.  Plus I'm starting to think Fuller>Webster.  Fuller needs more minutes.  In a bad year we should never lose to Incarnate Word.  Just emberassing.

Hence my talk about this affecting recruiting in direct and indirect ways we haven't even seen yet. Leading off Sports Center is not a good thing - every basketball fan in the country knows about this game now. This is far worse than one loss and one blow to our Tournament resume, but maybe I'm the outcast on that belief.

Ok, really going to quit posting now. I'm about to beat my head into the wall.

Incarnate Word is basically the Texas version of UNO.

They're not bad but they're not exactly beating Nebraska at home good either.

They were looking for a squad to put them on the map and we were more than willing to literally throw the game away to them.

This game actually gave me a glimpse of what I fear husker basketball could become again with a few more bad losses. (sorry Norm, but attending 90% of the home games since 1990 have me kind of battered and bruised)

The 60% full arena, the 1/2 full student section, 1/2 into it, zero energy from the crowd, the absolutely stellar halftime entertainment of the junior varsity league shooters shooting free throws....multiple "for your entertainment....the SCARlets...." stuff....it was deja vu of some of the tougher years.  And I agree Norm, all those losses you pointed out were really bad.  But none of those came a year after our team had the success it did and raised the bar and expectation level.

None of those teams had a Naismith finalist on them, a returning first team all league player, I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I can see hhcdimes point here.  I don't think any of us diehards want to see the program take a step back.  And while some fans have adjusted the expectations for this season, the non-diehards, the ones that fill PBA to give it the home court advantage...they haven't adjusted, and I just hope we don't start a slippery spiral downward.  For the record, I'm NOT predicting that we will...but I had too many deja vu moments, in a new arena tonight....
