I'm still unsure how to link tweets but

@GoodmanESPN: Oklahoma State 6-10 big man Gary Gaskins expected to get his release and transfer, source told ESPN. MAY be eligible this season.

@GoodmanESPN: Gaskins may get waiver due to fact served in military. Attended JUCO for 2 years. Teams could be in mix: Tenn, Ga Tech, Nebraska, Temple.

He would be a warm body for back up for one season. Doubtful it materializes for NU.

But wouldn't this be a good plan to fill the gap of leslee? Possibly allow Hammond to rs. Idk if it could happen, but it's worth taking a shot for one year.

Who cares, that's better than an open scholarship. Miles tried recruit him out of JUCO last year, so he obviously saw something he liked.

You're taking the two sentences as one. I'm saying it won't materialize as I have a feeling he doesn't end up at NU not because he is just a warm body. He's had a lot of personal issues. Do you risk taking on a player that left his last team and was recently a missing person in June to maybe get a few minutes a game? I'm sure they will do their due diligence but this one is one where I'd be ok missing out on him.

If he's eligible immediately, I say you absolutely take the risk.  It would only be for one year.  If his issues affect the team, you boot him like we did Biggs.

Travis Ford said he did not have any disciplinary issues, it sounds more like Oklahoma State was just not a good personal fit for him.  His story is very much like the kid from The Blind Side, he has no family support and was homeless for a while. I think with the great athletic support system we have here, it could be a great fit for him.  Regardless, I really hope this young man can get the help he needs and go on to get a college degree.

A few minutes a game and maybe being able to help the guy with his "personal issues".  Personal issues here seem a lot like the early signs of serious mental health issues.  Nebraska has a great life skills program and support system that could help someone like him off the court while he maybe helps us on the court.  I want him at Nebraska whether he ever steps foot on the court for us or not.  The media loves these stories because they pull heart strings, but they signal to me someone who needs real help.

Oftentimes minor personal or character issues are resolved by surrounding the individual with high character, hard working friends.  One becomes a product of the enviornment that he/she is immersed within.  I like the character and work ethic of this NU team.  It would be a wonderful enviorment to work into.

Not sure I'm buying that NU is such a unique program and that being a part of this team can cure some pretty obvious ills.  Every program in the country has strong built in support programs.  Some folks just are unable to take advantage of the gifts given them.  Yeah, I get that the kid has probably been dealt a pretty tough hand in life, but we aren't running a charity here.  Character comes from within.

Team chemistry is often a fragile thing and it can be dissolved quickly with even one slightly questionable egg.  Adding a player that you aren't 100% confident in being a cohesive part of the team is a risky proposition, IMO.

If it were up to me, I'd say this one is a hands off type of transfer.  Could be subtraction by addition...the Biggs situation comes immediately to mind.  I respect yours and others opinion on the matter, I just happen to differ in this case.

If he's immediately eligible you think about roll the dice.

Wait a year? No way.

I'm with you all the way Kamdy. The Huskers just went through motivational and business training using Jon Gordon's book "The Energy Bus". If you read the book, Gary Gaskins could be a classic "Energy Vampire". This is someone who's attitude robs energy from everyone around them, a bit like Deverell Biggs. One bad egg can truly ruin a team. One of Miles formulas for success is strong team chemistry and lots of energy. I'd rather leave a scholarship open than risk disturbing the strong bond we have among the current team members.

But with the Energy Bus, the team members were given the chance to buy in and get on the bus.  It sounds as if many would not want to afford him the opportunity.  Many thought that Mr. Petteway was also an energy vampire early last year...his body language was interpreted that way.  Because a person has personal demons, does not necessarily mean that he is an energy vampire, especially if you sound him with teammates that are excited to be on the ride.

In the articles I have read on Gaskins, nothing tells me he has an attitude problem.  Bought a car by working at a fast food restaurant so he could live in said car and attend community college to become a mechanic.  This after the Air Force didn't work out for him (injured in basic training and honorably discharged).  Works through the JUCO route to get to D1 attention after being noticed at a local gym, makes it but leaves the team mid-season and then goes missing for days a couple months back?

This screams of underlying mental health issues, not an attitude problem.  Actually seems the kid works hard and just has trouble maintaining stability in pursuit of those goals.  That sort of cycle is quite indicative of poor mental health.

I'm sure that NU has at least done their due diligence in regards to the available big men at this late stage of the game. I'd really hope that Jake Hammond can redshirt so as to gain strength in the Husker Power program.

You're probably right Vinny. I have no idea. Just concerned about team chemistry.

I agree, I don't think he has an attitude problem.  It sounds more like he may suffer from depression.  Here is what Travis Ford had to say about him:

"It's not disciplinary, he's good with us. We talk to him. Gary's been through a lot in his life. A lot. He needs to get around people and do some things where right now, it's tough for him here to get what he needs.”
