If we end up with Chiles and Ayegba, wow! That would be an incredible haul when you toss in Hammond and Tarin!

Give me those two and Covington and we can call it a day.  A serviceable center, a very good one year SG while Covington redshirts for the year.  That then gives us a solid class but then gives us 4 ships for 2015 as well.  Would be the dream scenario for me.

Couldn't really ask for much more than that.  Sounds like we would have a lot of competition for Chiles, though.  Wonder if Chiles playing in the same league that Molinari was a head coach in would give us any in with him.

This is neither here nor there, but I was curious how Covington fared against us. Turns out he struggled mightily in that game. He was 2-for-11 and 0-for-7 from 3-point range.

Also, ESPN.com says he had offers from Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin. I'm not sure how reliable that is, though.

Chiles vs major teams:

11-22 at Northwestern 19 pts on 8-12 FG, 1-2 3-pt, 7 reb, 2/3 Ast/TO

11-25 at Missouri........ 12 pts on 6-17 FG, 0-6 3-pt, 5 reb, 0/3 Ast/TO

12-14 at Marquette..... 21 pts on 9-23 FG, 1-3 3-pt, 3 reb, 1/2 Ast/TO

Was averaging 17.6 pts per game in early January, then must have been hurt. Missed about half of the Summit League schedule and only returned to starting lineup for final 2 games.

And in case we end up with a certain assistant coach who has any influence on what happens here  ;) :

3/1 at Western Illinois 27 pts on 9-18 FG, 4-5 3-pt, 4 reb, 3/1 Ast/TO

I can't imagine many players, if any, scored 27 against WIU this season ... Shields & Petteway combined had 26 vs WIU for example.

IUPUI was really bad this season, 6-26, and fired its coach, so I can understand why Chiles is looking to leave.

But wasn't that like his 2 nd or 3 rd college game?

I think he got stronger as the year went along.

edit I went back and he had 22 before us and 16 after us.

Will look,at his stats against BCS schools.

This is Covington.

It was his second game. I wasn't passing judgment, just posting something I was curious about.

Didn't think you were just wanted to help out some.:)

Often times when we land guys we've heard little or nothing about them. As fun as it is to see possible names, I like seeing this more.

It's hard to get excited about Ayegba when you look at his numbers.  He's a big body, but he did virtually nothing for an NIT team this year.

I don't think he's an impact guy in any way, shape or form, but he can definitely give us 10-15 minutes at a position of major need. For the cost of a one-year scholarship, it's nothing to sneeze at either.

Call me crazy, but I'd much rather take a 1 year shot on Moses Ayegba than to take on another 4 year project.

Worse case scenario: Never sees the floor, gives us some size and athleticism on our scout team, leaves and opens up a scholarship in one year.  With all due respect to Kyle Kurkowski, I'm guessing our rotational players would get prepared a little better by facing bodies like Ayegba.

Best case scenario: Gives us a much needed 15 minutes a game of a defensive presence and rebounding down on the block.

We need more offense and this guy isn't going to provide anything for us offensively.  Miles seems to be good at defining and coaching to roles.  Maybe Miles wouldn't even work a lot on offense with this kid.  Just maybe he gets this kid to believe that his sole purpose on the team, perhaps on earth, is to go in there for a few minutes every game and bring brass knuckles to a pillow fight.

I'm all about talented recruits who are going to come in here and set the world on fire.  If we still aren't there though, this might be a viable option.  Just saying.

Chiles is a 6'1 guard who averaged 15.8 ppg last year but no other really eye-popping statistics.

I don't know what you need beyond 15.8 ppg.  And the fact that he'd be a one-and-done senior transfer, giving you a player with minimal downside if he busts.

Yeah, I didn't mean it in a negative manner, was just stating that it doesn't seem like he contributes many rebounds or assists, was just trying to quickly give people an idea of what type of player he was.

Agree Norm and Cookie I understand where you are coming from. I say let the kid catch and shoot if he can consistently put the ball in the basket from outside.  We lacked that this year.
