or since we've been more successful has the board become more negative? It appears  to me that there are a larger quantity of mean-spirited  posts. Maybe there are just more posts so its not the percentage but the overall number. It just seems to me that there is less free flow of discussion because someone seems to jump in with a completely insulting post which kills the thread. Things got ugly at the end of Doc's tenure and some did get spiteful, but the majority seemed to have reasoned discussion of differences of opinions. Not so much anymore.

It's not just you...it's a little more heated.  I'd chalk that up due to the overall passion about Nebrasketball.

I think I know how to address this going forward for next season.

I think the mods do a pretty good job of leading the charge against negativity. There will always be some negativity as if everyone agreed a message board would be zero fun. I think 95% on here are very respectful but willing to challenge. I will also said some posts these days do deserve some criticism as some people post with terrible logic and not enough research. That being said its a free country everyone has an opinion. End of the day this place is ten times better than the power struggle that HI is.

I haven't really noticed that.

I think when you perceive your team as doing good that any negative comment seems "louder" or unjustified.

Earlier this year when we sucked you kinda just shrugged off the negative comments.

I mean I was one of the people who thought Petteway and Biggs were bad for this team early one.  I was certainly wrong about one of them.   :P

I am not a sunshine pumper usually; especially without reason.

But I am really excited that we might get a chance to finally win an NCAA game this year (although I don't expect us to I think we have a good shot and are playing good basketball.)

I just remember when this board had zero energy...collier was here and then doc gave us flashes but we could never have great discussions. This is a great time to be a fan and to also have a good forum to talk to people about when friends rent around and wives/gfs want no part of sports talk

I think the board has been pretty much the same towards the negativity as it was last year or Maybe even less. I think everyone has enjoyed the the unexpected success that the Huskers have had this year. I know I was hard on the team in the game threads last year but not so much this year.

I think most posters chide each other. I have not seen any personal fighting...racist...cruel posts. Some of those HI forunsbget crazy

Most of us are "friends" here and know each others tendencies.

Over the years I've visited many opponents forums.  I haven't seen a better fan site than this, in terms of how it is put together and how it is run.  And as to the behavior of the members on this board there just is no comparison to the kindness and class exhibited here.  I can't say I've noticed an uptick in negativity lately, but you're probably right.  We're still miles ahead of the behavior on most other boards.

To wit, there is almost no profanity, most people do a good job policing them selves I think.  Nobody's avatar is a porn picture, and I just don't usually see verbal abuse or name calling.   I think we can be proud, and I also commend the monitors for keeping this site a class above the rest.

no, the imports this past year are a little suspect. the board reads more like a typical sports site than HHC used to read. iron law of the internet: if it gets popular, it gets stupid.

I must agree with this assessment. The open/honest dialogues where it was okay to have disagreements has been reduced and some childish bickering has ensued. However, it's a lot worse on other websites. The core people here are less focused on "insider ego" and just love to discuss Nebrasketball. As long as we have that core, this website should be fine.

I've only been coming to this board for about two years, but I don't see much difference. I've been reading other message boards for a lot longer, and I'd say this is the classiest and easiest board to have a dialogue on.

If you have 1 post or 5000 posts you are welcomed here as long as you bring quality discussion. There is no entitlement nor should there be. Other boards some people feel because they sit at their computer all day long that they can do what they want. I give all the mods here credit for regulating all these years

Agreed, although sometimes people like to point at the post count as if it has anything to do with what is being discussed. I've never liked that about message boards.

Yes should not matter. I have been around since collier and I am not better than anyone. Its a message board if anyone needs to justify their value on an online site they most likely have no life and zero friends.;)

This has always been a very classy board as I have been a long time lurker of it. I think as with anything, something like Nebrasketball gets more popular and brings in all kinds of people good and bad with it. (I realize the irony of this statement coming from me as I just joined the board last month)

I love all of the attention Nebraska is getting and the excitement in people around our communities lately. Of course the bandwagon is also going to attract the "meathead crowd", Internet tough guys, and your typical message board trolls. Take the good with the bad I suppose.

If you're talking about my recent exchange with JohnnyOneNut, I apologize for coming off harsh, if that's the way I came off.  However, Johnny is (without the benefit of comparing IP addresses) almost certainly the same poster who was previously banned on our old board (after only 24 posts) under the nickname "JohnnyRedHoopster."

And, at the time that JohnnyRedHoopster was banned (shortly after he arrived) I noticed some eerie similarities and coincidences between JohnnyRedHoopster and Bradguru, who was also banned.  And, of course, most of us thought Bradguru was a reincarnation of the previously banned Kidney, whom many thought was a reincarnation of Whiteknuckle, who had also been banned.

So, I got a little cross-wise with Johnny when he crapped on a thread I started by invoking a very Kidney-esque rant about pathetic coaching, pathetic decisions and pathetic administrators paying money to coaches who should have been fired.  That crap got old and tired before the first iteration of JohnnyOneNut was banned and it didn't become more palatable just because we've been winning.

The other possibility was BadBrad.  I think Bad was exposed as a probable Creighton troll. Don't know what became of him.  Did he get the axe?  And is Kidney version 5.0 still around or did he get the boot, too?

Dean, if those are the ones you're talking about, then I think it's just a couple of folks who are aberrations and you can rest assured that success has not spoiled us.

I think it has become a little more negative, but nothing too much to worry about.  I am just mad I haven't got to post at all this season because I've been so busy.  Especially considering this is the most I've been excited about our team since I was sitting up in the wooden bleachers of a sold out Devaney in 1994 when my dad would bring me to games.
