cipsucks Posted February 10, 2016 Report Posted February 10, 2016 Don't know if this has been said in other threads, if so, my apologies. Shavon's situation reminds me somewhat of when Hoppen went down in 1986. Other guys stepped it up and we still made it to the NCAA Tourney for the first time ever. I'm not predicting a spot in the Big Dance, but I can see players stepping up their games and the Huskers winning 4 or 5 of their remaining contests. I can see them winning tonight! REDZONEDAN Posted February 10, 2016 Report Posted February 10, 2016 I hope Shavon hasn't played his last game as a Husker, as he is one of my all-time favorites, but if it's in his best interest to miss the rest of the season then that is what needs to be done. In the end basketball is just a game and his personal health and safety is more important. atskooc 1 Quote

I totally agree with this and thought of that the other day. FYI, tonight's loss to Wisconsin actually follows the '86 scenario. Right after losing Hoppen, we lost to a not-so-good K-State team at home before pulling it together and upsetting a good Mizzou team on the road. Let's hope history repeats. AuroranHusker Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 Nebraska really needed the aggressiveness of Shields tonight in Madison. He's three or four inches taller than Webster, and could have finished a few of those drive-to-the-hoop finishes that Tai could not. I think Shavon not playing had an effect on the Huskers, hopefully they rally vs PSU. Win one for Vonny!! Quote
hskr4life Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 I really thought Benny would be wearing a big heart tonight (don't get me wrong... the kid has always had a huge heart) but he just had an average game. I was thinking Benny might go off tonight. Shields would have helped in possibly finishing a few, but with us getting no calls, I could of seen him settling for quite a few pull up jays as well. HuskerFever Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 Understatement of the night...we need Shavon back...quickly. First off... as always, I'm wishing the best for Shavon and a full recovery. That said, even if he was healthy and playing in this game I don't see us pulling out a win. But his leadership and ability to make plays surly was missed in this one. Quote

PimpMario Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 I know it's just been 3 days. And I know with concussions nowadays, you get put into the protocol, and from there it's a wait a see type thing. But it's still a little disappointing that they literally know nothing or at least aren't sharing. And it's super discouraging that the possibility of Shavon not returning at all has been brought up even though nobody truly knows. I'm sure Shavon has been thrown into that brain research-athletics collaboration that UNL has going on. I don't know specifics but it's something about being able to track eye movement while monitoring brain activity. Obviously, everyone wants the very best for Shavon, but it would be my hope that the research doesn't get in the way of him returning in a safe and healthy manner and according to current timeframes for what's currently understood about concussions. In other words, I don't think it would, but hopefully the research doesn't delay his return. Why? Why put his health at risk on a lost season? That is absurd.Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk Quote

Not that I believe it would happen, but I was just saying that hopefully his return would be dictated by current concussion protocol (it sounds like it is) and not some lengthened experimental protocol based on the cutting edge research that is happening at UNL. I'm sure Shavon wants to get back out there if he can, as soon as he is safely cleared to do so. Quote

I don't know anything about the current protocol other than that it's what they are currently using. I'm sure it's the NFL protocol or something very similar. hhcmatt Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 Shavon will be ready when he's ready...it's really no more complex than that. First step is whether he can be cleared to even attend the Penn State game and/or attend class. Quote
jimmykc Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 Fifty years from now this whole discussion will seem as archaic as debating the merits of using leather helmets for football. Meanwhile we should take Shavon out of our equation, try to squeak out 3 more wins and become a team no one is eager to play in the Big10 tourney. 49r, Silverbacked1, jaimes2000 and 1 other 4 Quote

This is me not taking a step back because I have not once suggested that he needs to rush back or that he should come back before its time. All I've done is to ask questions about the process. Why would Shavon feel any pressure to get back? In fact, if he did feel pressure to get back, it wouldn't matter one lick. No doctor is going to clear him to get back before it's safe for him to do so. Quote
