I think Nebraska's #1 priority should be to bring in a grad transfer to play Center.

I really dislike talking about kids in our program transferring, but it would really seem like we can fill our open scholarships with high school/jucos kids and use the schollie currently filled by SV on a grad transfer center if there is one.  Worst case scenario is you have a full roster with one scholarship being used towards a project center that likely plays no meaningful minutes again.

Looking at this in terms of what's best for the sustained longterm success of the program, maybe the best option would be:

2014:

1) Grad Transfer Center (so the scholarship would open up again for the 2015 class)

2) Trey Dickerson (will be a sophomore, so he would be in the same class with Webster and Hawkins)

2015:

1) Bryant Crawford

2) Edward Morrow

3) Keanu Pinder

4) Darien Williams

This would mean that in 2015-2016:

The Senior class would be:

-Terran Petteway

-Shavon Shields

-Walter Pitchford

-Benny Parker (?) - (If Nebraska has Webster, Dickerson, and a Fr PG, this scholarship might be better used on another Grad Transfer Center).

The Junior class would be:

-Trey Dickerson

-Tai Webster

-Nate Hawkins

-Darien Williams

The Sophomore class would be:

-Nick Fuller

-Jacob Hammond

The Freshmen class would be:

-Bryant Crawford

-Edward Morrow

-Keanu Pinder

I know that a lot of us wanted to get a Grad Transfer this last class to come in and play Center, but I think Nebraska's odds of landing one in this class are much better for multiple reasons.

--Nebraska is actually starting to win some games, which will obviously be more attractive than transferring to a team that would win 12-13 games. Winning games and being in the bubble conversation will put Nebraska on the radar of players that they wouldn't have had any chance with in previous seasons.

--If Nebraska continues to win, Miles will continue to be in the conversation of Big Ten coach of the year. That, along with Kenya Hunter's reputation of developing post players, should help Nebraska's chances of landing a Grad Transfer.

--Not only the opportunity for instant playing time...but the opportunity for instant playing time, while being surrounded with studs like Petteway, Shields, and Pitchford at the 2, 3, and 4 spots. If you're going to transfer to a school to play for a year...I would think that 3 very attractive things would be:

1) Immediate playing time

2) Quality players at other positions

3) Potential to win, and win big

These are all possible at Nebraska for a Grad Transfer Center.

Jucos would add to an already large junior-to-be class, except Dickerson who would come in as a sophomore.  If he and Atwood are truly a package deal and if we could get both, I'd take them both.

If some really good HS kid is still available and interested (Josh Cunningham, for instance?) I wouldn't be averse.

But I agree with everyone who says bring in a grad transfer.  Or two.

I think the results that Miles has produced on the floor this year, and the attention that has garnered us, put us in a good position to land some talent for the '15 class.  But right now, the only seniors we would be replacing are David Rivers and Leslee Smith.  So, if we got a couple of grad transfers (worth taking a chance on even if they end up sitting the bench), we'd have 4 spots for '15 plus have a full roster for next year.

Norm, I agree, but would add Dusan Rustic. Above everyone except Trey. If we could finish with Trey and Dusan, I'd be a very very happy man.

2015 I want Pinder, Morrow and Crawford. That would be back to back amazing classes.

Like I said, if some really good HS kid is available, I wouldn't be averse.  And a one-and-done HS kid is probably better than a senior transfer anyway.

I'd be ok with the first one-and-done kid in the history of this program.

Really need a shooter. Really need a guy who can create in the post. That plan B guy.

Hopefully Fuller is that shooter.  And hopefully Arizona decides they don't want Ristic so that he can be that post player.

I dont think its that they dont want him, because I've heard they want him bad, its just the fact they oversigned 3 players and only one is expected to go in the draft now.  Thats leaves them basically having to get rid of 3 guys to get the other two and Ristic in for the class and that would be damn hard.

People have talked about how Miles doesn't mind "bigs" (maybe even prefers) who are more in the 6'8''/6' 9'' range  ( really active guys that can do a bit of everything ) that fit his style of play.   Yet he has tried to get E Robinson and now this big fella.   If we get such a player, does it change things much for him ?   Does he sacrifice something or is it a no-brainer considering our conference and the competition therein ?   I think I'm answering my own question as I type this b/c I'm thinking about Leslee and Jacob next year as I would think they can move around like he wants.  I wonder if Elbert would have been able to move on D like Miles requires.   Just wonder if anyone has thoughts on this if I've made any sense.

So, who are we still in on for our 2014 class? I ask because I'm thinking this is setting up really well for us to get a senior transfer unless we're very quietly still recruiting a few guys.

There is one open spot, and possibly another spot opening up as well.  Expect at least one transfer maybe two. edit: by the last sentence I meant transfer in.  Only see one possibly going out.

Would love to get that anthony lee guy from temple and put him in as a PF or C. Or take anyone who can score inside, rebound, and play solid defense in the paint (Lee averages 1 block per game). If we had lee next year:

PG: Parker/Webster (t. smith RS)

SG: Fuller/Hawkins

SF: Petteway/Shields

PF: Pitchford/Lee or L. Smith

C: Lee/L. Smith or Pitchford (hammond RS)

I agree with you that Lee seems to be the best option (known option) out there right now and I would love if Nebraska landed him. But I see literally 0% chance of any of the "Big Three" (Petteway, Pitchford, Shields) not starting. If Lee were to end up at Nebraska, then I think the starting lineup would be:

1) Webster

2) Petteway

3) Shields

4) Pitchford

5) Lee

Bench Players:

1) Parker, Smith

2) Hawkins

3) Fuller

4) Rivers

5) Smith, Grad Transfer Center
