The Polish Rifle Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 Found this on ESPN, thought I would share: Breakdown hhcmatt and Nebrasketballer 2 Quote
PimpMario Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 Maybe we can steal 5th place. I don't see us winning our first round game. UMass is a good team out of the A-10. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 We are an improving Big Ten team, no reason not to think we cannot compete for the championship. It is time to start surprising some folks. Nebrasketballer and HuskerActuary 2 Quote
uneblinstu Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 Yeah, I can't see us winning a neutral court game vs. a team that got bounced in the first rount...of the NIT either. Nebrasketballer 1 Quote

Norm Peterson Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 Kenpom has a rating system that allows him to project the rankings for the beginning of this year based on the finish to last year and who a team loses and who they return. Does anyone have any idea how he has us ranked? I've read some of his literature on the logic behind extrapolating from the past season (or is it interpolating?) and it makes sense. Sort of. Kinda technical but I see what he's getting at. Anyway, does he have us down as a better team going into this year or not? Anyone a member over there and can find a link to his forecasting-from-the-prior-year analysis? Quote
hskr4life Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 If we do not think we can beat UMASS, we are going to be worse than last year. A top team out of the A10 is like a middle of the pack Big 20 team. That is where I expect to be. Like someone else said... this is a team coming off a first round NIT loss. Quote
Nebrasketballer Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 Nebraska vs UMass is definitely a game that Nebraska can win next season. It's obviously not a guarantee, but Nebraska has a good chance to win the game. Quote

Norm, if I had to guess I'd say we're gonna start off pretty dang low this year just because we have so little returning from a fairly lowly ranked team last year. Basically Ray and Shavon (maybe you could include Rivers too). But other than that we don't have much productivity returning. We'll most likely be MUCH improved, but the way kenpom does it I don't see us starting any higher than 200 (probably more like in the 250 range if I were honest). And that would be a generous kenpom rating to start, IMO. Quote
seaofred92 Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 not to be a debby downer but it does kinda suck that our game is the only game on espn3 and every other game made it to espnu.. Quote
The Polish Rifle Posted July 18, 2013 Author Report Posted July 18, 2013 not to be a debby downer but it does kinda suck that our game is the only game on espn3 and every other game made it to espnu.. Ours and Clemson vs. Temple are ESPN 3, plus all of the loser bracket games. IF we get into the second round and the title round our games will be on ESPN 2...that'd be some great coverage. Completely disagree with this. We will be a team that will continuously gets better throughout the year because we're young and inexperienced. We were a complete train wreck at the beginning of last year and this is a November game on the road. The early 2013-14 team probably beats the early 2012-13 team but it's much more likely we stumble out of the gate again. UMass is bringing back their best player from last year and a lot of guys with a lot of minutes. They could kill us and we could make the NIT/NCAA tourney. Quote

I believe they return their top three scorers, all averaged more than 12 ppg. They're a borderline Top 25 team. Quote
49r Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 We were a complete train wreck at the beginning of last year and this is a November game on the road. To be fair, it WAS a 4-0 train wreck, and we should have been undefeated going into Creighton. I think it is fair to expect to compete with, if not beat UMass this year. hhcmatt 1 Quote

To add to your comment, after the loss to Kent St., we followed up with an impressive win at Wake Forest and another nice win against USC. Realistically, we could have been 2-5 going into the Creighton game, so even though it may not have been pretty, we were still winning. hhcmatt 1 Quote
RedEyedFanatic Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 It's not like we will be starting all freshman. We have a few experienced guys coming back, and 3 guys who have spent a year practicing in the system. I think we will be both more talented and way more experienced in the system than we were at the start of last season. Quote

I don't disagree with these expectations. I looked back and misinterpreted what hskr4life was trying to say. I took it as 'If we don't beat UMass then we haven't progressed' What he actually said was more along the lines of 'If we expect to lose to UMass, we brought in new players but haven't improved' Nebrasketballer 1 Quote
hskr4life Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 Yeah, It does kind of read funny. I just think the guys should have more confidence going into this season. Hopefully they see the progress they are making. Quote
AuroranHusker Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 Gotta hope NU plays a solid game vs. UMass in order to get that ESPN2 national coverage in the semifinals. Presuming it will be a difficult game, but also one that the Huskers should expect to come out on top. I have a feeling that this team will learn a lot about themselves over the course of 3 consecutive neutral court games. Quote
1sdpad2 Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Does anyone know if a sports bar can play espn3? Is this first game only available to watch on the internet if you have a cable account tied to espn ? Quote
hhcmatt Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Does anyone know if a sports bar can play espn3? Is this first game only available to watch on the internet if you have a cable account tied to espn ? I think it should be possible though I would definitely call ahead because there is about 0.1% chance that whoever is running the bar at 11:30 on Thursday will be able to figure out how to steam the game. Does anyone want to watch this thing in the Haymarket on Thursday? If we have enough people I'll make sure to line up a place to watch it. Quote
Hooper Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Is anyone else surprised that we're busing the team to the tournament? That's 19 hours in a bus to get there, and 19 hours to get back. Seems pretty cheap for a B1G program. Is this normal? Quote
jdostal Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 They're busing to the airport, I believe hhcmatt 1 Quote
Hooper Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 They're busing to the airport, I believe Ah, okay. That makes more sense. I saw the team bus photos on Twitter and was wondering why we're busing these guys 19 hours to Charleston. Quote
