I believe Nebraska will have a legit 10-man rotation next season, and maybe even an 11-man rotation.  This is what I think the rotation will be:

STARTERS:

1- Webster (6’3”)

2- Petteway (6’6”)

3- Shields (6’6”)

4- Smith (6’8”)

5- Pitchford (6’10”)

OFF OF THE BENCH:

1- Biggs (6’0”)

2- Gallegos (6’2”)

3- Fuller (6’7”)

4- Rivers (6’7”)

5- Vucetic (7’1”)

WILD CARD:

Hawkins (6’5”)

---If Hawkins can adjust to the college game quickly and shoots a high percentage from beyond the arc, then he could be a dangerous player that I believe can work his way into the rotation next season, especially since he is 6’5”.

---I think that all 5 of the players that I listed as "Off of the Bench" will play a significant role role for the Huskers next season, I just don't think they will be one of the starting 5.  The only big question mark with these 5 players depends on how much weight/strength Vucetic can gain during the off season.  If he can make some serious progress, then I think he can contribute.  If not, then I do not believe that we will see very much of him on the court.

I know that there are people that will think I’m crazy not having Gallegos in the starting lineup, because he was a starter this last season, played a high number of minutes, and scored a lot of points for this team last season, but I simply think that Petteway is a more dynamic player at the 2-Spot.  And literally every single thing that I have heard from anyone that has seen him practice and/or work out, points towards Peteway starting at the 2-Spot next season.  Also, Miles continually goes out of his way to say good things about Petteway specifically.  About his skill level, aggressiveness, and his work ethic both on the court and in the weight room.

Petteway will be different than Gallegos, because he is 6’6”, athletic, and he can take it to the hole to finish above the rim, or find the open man when the defense collapses.

I agree 100% with the statements that Damon Benning and Mike’l Severe made at the end of the radio segment on 1620 the Zone, after their interview with Robin Washut. (Post #25 in the “Official Media Thread")

“I am well aware of Ray Gallegos, but I would not be at all surprised if the only starter from last year that starts next season is Shields.  With guys like Petteway and Pitchford being eligible to play.  Gallegos could be a “Vinnie Johnson” coming off of the bench to hit some shots for you.”

--I think that Gallegos could be a very dangerous weapon for Nebraska, similar to the role that Freshman Spike Albrecht had with Michigan last season during their run in the NCAA Tournament.  I believe that Gallegos would be good shooting spark off of the bench.

From an article in the Omaha World Herald about Petteway:

His body is ready. The 6-foot-6 Petteway has gone from 190 pounds to 210 in his year at Nebraska, earning the team's top lifter award.

“I play hard,” Petteway said. “And I'm very versatile. I can bring the ball up the floor. I can run the offense when I need to. I can post up when I have a smaller guard on me. And I can guard multiple positions.

Yes, Gallegos started last season, but Petteway wasn’t eligible to play.  He will be eligible this next season.

It's thrilling to think we could have a 10 man rotation.  How long has it been since we could say that?

I'm optimistic, but cautious when setting my expectations for next year.  On paper we look like we have the chance to do some good things, but at the same time we haven't seen 6 of these guys in big 10 play (basically 7 with Vooch).

I'm thinking we flip our record and go 18-15 next year with 2 upset wins and quality wins over FGCU and Miami.

Gallegos will be starting.  I think Smith comes off the bench.  But otherwise, I think you'll see all those guys get some time.  Things could change by the time we get to conference play, but to start the season, it will be Ray Ray.

Wow and we aren't even talking about Mencke.

I mean you don't even have one of our scholarship in the rotation, we have come a long way. ;)

I think Rey starts also....and Petteway probably starts at PG to start the year.  I think it will take some time for Webster to adjust to the college game.

Starters/Bench:

PG: Biggs/Parker (i still like parker)

SG: Gallegos/Webster

SF: Petteway/Fuller

PF: Shields/Rivers

C: Pitchford/Smith

Hawkins redshirts for next year when we bust out the most terrifiying backcourt combos in the BIG 10

Menke/Tryrance are break the glass in case of emergency players and leave Husker hoops fans to scream in fear and terror, and than sulk and cry and imagine what could of been

Vucetic is the wildcard for me.. i just feel he dosnt have the size

I agree Rey starts at the beginning of the year. I hold to my many statements that IF the newcomers are as good as we hope, he will not/cannot be starting by conference play.

I don't see Webster starting to start the year, but hopefully he will before too long. I also see him playing the 2 his freshman year.

I guess it comes down to what sort of a lineup Miles wants to start games with.  I think Ray will be in the group of our best 5 players next year, but if he wants to go with a bigger lineup and start Smith, I could see Ray coming off the bench, but that's really the only way I see it happening.  Frankly, barring injury, I don't see Ray not starting the whole season.

Good points.  I agree that it could take some time for Webster to get to the point where he is ready to play PG in college.  So, I think that the lineup that I listed in the original post could be delayed until the time conference play starts.  It could be by the beginning of the season, if the new guys catch on quickly, but I think that they should be ready by the time Big Ten play starts.

I've said it before, and I'm sure it won't be well received here, but if Nate Hawkins redshirts this year because he's not a better option than guys like Benny Parker and Mike Peltz, then he was a wasted scholarship. That may sound harsh, but there's really no justification in recruiting guards who can't immediately displace those two guys. Just my opinion.

I happen to believe Hawkins will play quite a bit this year and that many here are undervaluing him.

Hawkins redshirting doesn't mean Parker and Menke will be seeing minutes, because I don't think they will.  Also, Parker and Menke play a different positon that Hawkins.

Yeah, he sort of plays a different position, but not entirely. Miles told Hawkins that he envisions him as a "scoring point guard." We all know that the guard spots aren't as rigidly defined in Miles' offense as they are in many others, and certainly in the NBA. It's not always the same guy taking the ball up the court. The line between the 1 and 2 spots seems to be blurred quite a bit with Miles.

I feel that the best overall guards will see the most minutes at the guard spots, regardless of whether they fit the 1 or 2 spot better. I don't see Miles putting an inferior player on the court just because he's more of a 1 than a guy who may be more of a traditional 2 but is a far better player overall, including scoring, passing, ball handling, etc.

Neither Parker nor Peltz brings enough skill to the table to justify playing ahead of Hawkins in my opinion. Neither does even one thing especially well. Both players are a broad spectrum of mediocrity. Again, just my opinion.

Again, Hawkins redshirting wouldn't mean he's behind them.  Petteway, Webster and Biggs all will fit a similar description that as well.  I personally think Parker will have a role on this team, but Hawkins and Parker won't be competing for minutes.  He'll be competing with the other three.  If he can't oust any of those three, redshirting makes a lot of sense.

Wow!  Nice.  Fuller starting at the 4-Spot.  That's bold.  He would certainly be another offensive threat on the floor and the people that have seen him play since he has been in Lincoln say that he is legit and that he will definitely play this season.

The reason that I have Smith starting at the 4-spot is because Pitchford isn't a "banger", so if he is starting at the 5-spot, I thought that maybe Miles would want to get a little more muscle on the floor, so I thought Smith (at 6'8", 250 lbs) could fill that role.

I think Benny Parker will play more to start the season and depending on how everything else goes will get some but not a lot of minutes to end it.  Very nice role player to have by the end of the year hopefully.

I agree with a lot of what's been said above, but simply do not see anyone redshirting. Good basketball simply don't redshirt players anymore. They will all play IMO opinion. I don't think Coach Miles will ever recruit anyone he doesn't plan on playing immediately.

Half of the Gonzaga team has redshirted though I'm unsure how many of these guys are scholarship/non-transfer.

You very well might be right about Miles not redshirting anyone...the only redshirts on Colorado St's roster were those that sat out a year because of transfer or injury.
