At the risk of jinxing anything we are probably getting to that point where we can keep a closer eye on what's going on around the country that could impact conference tournament seeding and beyond.

Currently we would be playing on night one of the big ten tourney. We are 1 game behind in the standings for getting a first round bye and 3 games back of a double bye.

In terms of NCAA tournament, there is really only one game of importance. Bubble team Pitt is getting working by Virginia so that's good for us. A lesser game is ISU over Kansas.

Tomorrow has several games thay Torvik views as games with impact and those include Murray State over Drake, Florida over Vandy, UNLV over Boise, Iowa over Purdue (Nah), and Northwestern over USC

Got the biggest one last night with bubbly Pittburgh losing at home to Virginia. Only 2 games impact our tournament percentage greater than 1% today according to T-rank

Baylor comes in as a 9 seed on Bracketmatrix and Texas Tech preventing them from picking up a Q1-A win will keep them on the bubble, albeit pretty safe, for a while longer.

The 2nd game is Arizona State over KSU. This one is suppose is more about keeping KSU off the bubble than it is about damaging Arizona State's resume. ASU is currently the 1st team out on Bracketmatrix. One could argue that KSU is so bad that a win here really doesn't do much and it would be better for us to see ASU get knocked down a bit

A few games to keep an eye all while we all wait for the main event

LSU vs Georgia - Georgia has really tanked since a 14-2 start and have lost 5 of their last 6 since then. Currently they are the last 10 seed on T-rank while Nebraska is the first 11 seed. Losing at home to an LSU team very likely to finish at or near the bottom of the SEC would be a blemish for the resume.

Wake Forest vs Stanford- Wake is currently the 8th team out on T rank so avoiding any fringe Q1/Q2 wins would be nice. There aren't a ton of chances left for Wake, but this is one of them.

SMU - Va Tech - this one falls a bit further down the Torvik rooting guide, but if "experts" want to keep putting SMU in the field then let's give them a reason to take them out. SMU'S resume (0-4 Q1, 5-1 Q2) would have a hard time withstanding a Q3 loss and even though they have more opportunity in the ACC than Wake, the aforementioned Q1 record gives me hope they struggle down the stretch

How come Nebraska is NEVER introduced as 8 Time NCAA Tournament Qualifier…?

Because as long as Nebraska has been playing basketball, that is not a very impressive stat either.

5-9 seeds earn a bye in the Big 10 tourney and 1-4 earn a double bye. Prior to the Washington game we were 3 games out of 4th and and 1 game out of 9th. We are now currently 0.5 games back of 9th and still 3 games back of 4th. It would probably require running the table or at worst dropping one down the stretch to get there

No, but it’s factually accurate which is the point I’m trying to make.

Well, Nebraska never having won an NCAA Tournament game is factually accurate as well.

Yesterday's games

LSU vs Georgia - no luck, Georgia took care of business. Currently an 11 seed on T rank

Wake vs Stanford - a tie game with under 2 minutes but Stanford couldn't pull it out. Depending on your bracketologist Wake is either barely in or just out

SMU - Va Tech - another close ACC game that doesn't go our way. SMU pulls away late

Today's 3 games in an incredibly underwhelming slate.

1. Loyola Marymount vs Gonzaga - Gonzaga is pretty safe right now as an 8 seed but a Quad 3 loss would be a hit. Would likely need to add another questionable loss or two to really be bubbly

2. Saint Mary's vs san Francisco - Just as simple as making a loss look slightly better

3. Oregon State vs Washington State - Oregon state is a bit out of the field, but keep an eye out when OSU plays Saint Mary's this weekend. This is a classic look ahead spot and if OSU can get past this one, they do have the ability to beat Saint Mary's. OSU already has a win over Gonzaga on the resume

One more to add to this...

4. Maryland vs. Ohio St: In our own conference. We play both teams twice. Ohio St is a lot more bubbly than Maryland currently. Ohio St is projected on of the last 8 teams in in a lot of brackets.

Take care of Ohio St. on Sunday, and suddenly NU is tied with OSU in the standings at 6-7. Win the following home game against Maryland, and NU could potentially be tied with them at 7-7. If Nebraska continues to stack B1G dubs, that "internal Big Ten bubble" looks a lot better for the Big Red.

Due to changes this year, we all know that 3 teams will not be making the conference tournament... let alone any other tournaments. Sadly, we are still one of those teams on the cut line heading into mid-February here.

Currently we're in a 5 way tie for 9th (so 9-13)... it would be nice to separate from these teams.

Nebraska vs Ohio State- need a Husker win obviously.

Oregon @ MSU- Oregon lost and drops .5 games back of us.

Michigan @ Indiana- Need a MU win, they are up 9 with 13 mins left.

Rutgers @ Maryland- Need a Maryland win to stay ahead of Rutgers

USC is off until Tuesday.

Iowa is also right below us in the standings and is playing at home against Wisco today. Would be nice for Wisco to take care of the Hawks.

Uhg. I still don't have the words to express how much I HATE that not every team is included in the BIGTEN tournament.

Got me worried we have the most wins over ranked teams ever and not only don't make the Dance, but don't even make the conference tournament. Which would be about the most Nebraska basketball thing ever 😕

Because of how tight the standings are, there will be a team with some big time wins that doesn't make the B1G tournament (most likely).

You can probably pencil in Minnesota and Washington to the bottom 2. BUT that 16th spot is well up for grabs. Penn State and Northwestern seem like good options there with how their seasons are going, but all it takes is someone 5-7 or worse going on one of those 6 game skids and......

Also... one of those teams on the "cut line" at the moment is...... Oregon. At just 5-8, they sit in 13th are are just .5 games above the cut line. Has a team with like 8 Q1 wins ever missed their conference tournament and made the dance? LOL

Their remaining schedule though is fairly easy.  NW, Rutgers, @Iowa, @Wisco, USC, Indiana, @Washington

I hope it happens. Not because of Nebraska. But because maybe if Nike money gets left out the morons that came up with this tournament option will rethink their decision...because Nike money.

Strange they didn't go with 16 teams.  Top 8 seeds get byes.  9-16 play in the first round.  First round could start at noon.  The way it is now the 2 seed might be better over the 1 seed.  If the 7 seed gets beat you have a team on their third game.
