I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned Oregon as a possibility.  Do we have a 2 year or 4 year home-home signed with them?

And as for the exhibition - Concordia is the only in-state NAIA school left that we haven't played.

How do you stop people from calling Creighton & Nebraska a rivalry? Stop scheduling them. Problem solved.

Start beating them.  Problem solved.

Well, not really.

In the 90s, when we beat them routinely, nobody on either side of the aisle viewed it as a heated rivalry.  Creighton was just that in-state team we played every year.  Like UNO will be.

Once Altman arrived and his team knocked us off, THAT is when this became a rivalry.

If we return to the kind of dominance over Creighton that we enjoyed in the 90s, which included winning in Omaha, this series will be a series and not a rivalry.

Drum roll please........................................ Wyoming! Solid program, good Conference & imminently doable.

Is this official?  Has Rosenthal tweeted it yet?  Is your post approved by the crazy hoops guy?

Pure speculation on my part, but has the look & "feel" of a likely opponent.

If they were the group we were waiting to sign, they would already be signed.

This South Carolina thing makes a lot of sense.  Where did all that talk come from?

I'd chalk that up more to the fact Creighton stunk out loud during much of the 90's.  Of course we didn't see them as a rival; they were terrible!  Creighton fans didn't see it as a rivalry because they were getting their asses handed to them by damn near every team they played for half the decade.  They probably didn't care enough for it to be a rivalry.

Creighton has been beating us on a regular basis of late (at least it feels that way...if McD stays next year, I fully expect them to beat us again).  If we start beating them (especially in Omaha), that makes for a back-and-forth between the two teams, which is much more conducive to a rivalry (think of Colorado and Nebraska football in the late 80's and early 90's, and K-State and Nebraska football in the late 90's early aughts...that's when those schools started to see us as a rival).  If we start beating Creighton again it will increase the rivalry until it gets to be so one-sided no one cares any more.

Right now, we're the big school in the state, but they're the big program (at least before their move to the Big East...we'll see how they produce there).  The little guy has to show he can play with the big guy for it to be a rivalry.

To start beating Creighton will heighten any rivalry we may have with them.  To continue to beat them (and, by doing so turn into the big guy again) will dampen it.

I'd love to get a big name school but would rather schedule a team that we can beat.  Would hate to open up the new arena with a loss.  I'd be fine with a middle of the road mid-major team.

We lost to Iowa in the original Devaney Home Opener.  I think we've done ok since.

We've done okay since?  What team are we talking about?

Yeah, that was kind of my first reaction, too.  Okay might be just a tiiiiny stretch on how we've done at Devaney...

Well, we've never had a non-winning season at the Bob, correct.? Overall, yeah we've been a mediocre program, but at home, we've almost always been tough.

No one has mentioned the school that I had originally heard is to be the opener. As far I know, deal still not done.

Oxford? Yale? Southeast Community College? Doane? Omaha Central? Montverde?  Anywhere close? :)

But in all reality we should of had a 4 team tournie to open up the Arena.  Something like

Friday Session: Games at 6 and 8:30

Game 1: Omaha Central VS Oak Hill

Game 2: Montverde VS Whitney Young

Saturday Session: Games at 12 and 2:30 HUSKERS at 730 or 8

Game 1: Game 1 Winner VS Game 2 Winner

Game 2: Game 1 Loser VS Game 2 Loser

Game 3: Nebraska VS Said Opponent

How awesome would this be?  Could really showcase the facilities!
