It's possible we could have 3 former Huskers playing Olympic basketball if Lat Mayen makes the South Sudan team.

Thus far we have

Jack McVeigh - Australia

Keisei Tominaga - Japan

Here are the groups

A:

Australia
Greece

Canada

Spain

B:

France
Germany

Japan
Brazil

C;

Serbia

South Sudan

Puerto Rico
USA

If you want to geek out over any non-basketball Huskers in the Olympics, feel free to add them to this thread

Here's a June 6, 2024, report at Huskers.com:

Former Husker men’s basketball performer Lat Mayen was named as one of 25 players selected to South Sudan’s preliminary Paris Olympics roster this week.

Mayen, who has played professionally in Australia and New Zealand since graduating from Nebraska in 2022, is currently playing for the Wellington Saints in the New Zealand National Basketball League, averaging 17.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game in nine games this summer. He played for Cairns in the Australian National Basketball League in each of the last two seasons.

South Sudan has two games scheduled before the Olympics, when they will travel to London for matchups with Germany (July 18) and the United States (July 20). This will be South Sudan’s first Olympic appearance, as the country has been recognized by FIBA since 2018.

Previously Mayen played for the Australian U18 team in 2016 FIBA Oceania Championships, averaging 7.2 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in helping Australia to a runner-up finish.

Wonder why the US doesn’t have nba players in the 3v3?? The women have their pros in it. Kyrie, Jimmy Butler, Jaylen Brown, plenty of great players could be on the roster…

According to a source:

While NBA players are not prohibited from competing in the 3x3 Olympic event, they are required to amass 'ranking points' earnt through playing FIBA-approved 3x3 tournaments such as World Cups and stops on the FIBA 3x3 World Tour.

As a result, NBA players are unable to commit their time to these events, leading to the nations filling their teams with specialized 3x3 players.

This differs for the women's side, with select WNBA players more willing to compete in the lead-up 3x3 events, resulting in names including Rhyne Howard suiting up for the Paris tournament.

A number of NU Track and Field athletes around the World have qualified for the Olympics via their home country's Olympic team. Too many to list individually. Check out Nebraska Track and Field on your favorite social media platform for more specific information.

Particular shout-out to Maggie Malone, originally from Geneva and went to high school at Fillmore Central. Won the US trials in javelin and Paris will be her third time at the Olympics.

If LeBron ever retires, he should spend his twilight years captaining Team USA's 3x3 squad. If he can compete at the highest level in the NBA into his early 40s, I feel like he could easily dominate 3x3 into his late 60s.

Just need Gatorade to develop a Metamucil blend for him and he'll be dropping 30 REGULARLY if you know what I mean...

Jack McTrey came off the bench and went 4-9 on FGs (sadly 0-2 on 3PTs) and 1-2 on FTs to drop 9 points on Team USA in a mere 11 minutes of action.

How the hell did Joe Ingles get a 1 year/$3.3MM contract but this guy can't get a look?

Ingles made it to the NBA when he was 27. McVeigh just turned 28 and just recently started being very good at basketball

He would be a 3v3 old man game nightmare.  He’d just dogwalk everyone to the rim with all that space.

Keisei played 19 minutes against Germany in a friendly 8 days ago and had 2 points on 1-10 shooting (0-7 from 3) in that game.

Certainly expected to see him log more than 49 seconds of clock today.

I woke up early to see KT play and was very disappointed AND NOW tired.

Evidently, most think it was due to his lack of being able to play defense.

If we can hide his defense deficits, (I actually thought he improved in this area over the years), at Nebraska in one of the BEST college conferences in the nation, how can a national team with multiple NBA players on it not figure it out.  You've got a LIGHTS OUT shooter and you leave him on the bench.  I still don't understand.
