Off Topic: Yes or No?

Off Topic? Yes or No?

  1. 1. In the off-season, are you OK with off-topic posts or not?

    • Yeah, I like having the water cooler talk and when there isn't much Husker hoops to talk about, I still enjoy coming here to talk about whatever.

    • No! This is a Husker Hoops board. It's in the very name of the board and I don't want the board cluttered with off-topic threads even in the off-season.

Awhile back, I had kind of promised @basketballjones that I had some off-topic threads in mind to keep the discussion going even during the off-season.

Some recent posts, including one by @Red Rum have caused me to rethink this effort.

I'm going to defer to the preference of the board. Comment if you want, but please vote. If you don't want me making off-topic threads during the off-season, vote accordingly. And, if most people don't want them, I will refrain from starting them.

If you like coming here fore water-cooler talk and appreciate the off-topic threads, then vote accordingly. I have some other topics in mind, like I told jones that I did.

But if people really don't like them, I won't post them. I only came up with some OT ideas for the off-season because I thought people appreciated them, and if I'm wrong about that, PLEASE let me know. I mean it. I'm not going to take offense.

If you don't want OT threads in the off season, vote that way; if you do want them, let me know. And I will honor the vote.

Vote away.

People can talk about whatever they want. The power of message boards is that topics that don't interest people filter down into the abyss and those that get a lot of attention are at the top.

There's also a feature you can use to mark things as "read" if you don't want to read it. For me, that's most of the recruiting threads. I just don't expend much energy on that part of the board because it fluctuates so much and frankly just not much interest of mine until we land a recruit.

I also tend to avoid spam posts about ergonomic chairs that show up before the moderators get to it, discussions immediately after an ailment or death as to whether they wore a seatbelt or not, and anything related to Iowa.

May your OT threads capture the attention of many, or fall into the abyss. Happy posting.

Well yeah, but what about anything related to Creighton?   😉

I propose, that in addition to the "College Basketball, Other Husker Sports, and Row 6 Seat 10" forum, an "OT threads" forum be added, as well as a "Creighton Sucks and Here's Why" forum.

Not sure if you're being serious, but if so then I strongly disagree.  Those other forums see such little interaction compared to the Haymarket Hardwood. Personally I forget they exist most of the time, except for when I randomly click in the wrong spot and am transported to the upside down world.

The point of posting an OT thread is to either:

a) provide something to talk about when there's not enough relevant Husker Hoops news to justify visiting the forum, or

b) discuss an OT subject matter amongst this upstanding group of posters, rather than find a less savory (but admittedly more relevant) corner of the interwebs.

Banishing OT threads to their own forum would defeat both of these reasons. Now granted, if we ever reach a point were OT threads outnumber Husker Hoops threads, then I could absolutely see your point. But reality is that we are far from there. It's currently July, which is basically the off-season of the off-season.  And even now there's only a small handful of OT subjects "cluttering" the main page.  It's simply not a problem.

P.S.: I have never cared to watch music videos, much less music videos based around the days of the week.  I find the Days of the Week thread to be quite possibly the least relevant, least entertaining, and overall biggest waste of 0s and 1s in the history of HHC. And yet, I still think it deserves to be on the main page.

P.P.S: I'm going to think up a new OT subject for the sole purpose of ruffling the feathers of the people that want the OT threads removed. Enjoy!

No.  While I've preferred to be laissez-faire about all of this don't make off-topic posts with the purpose of being divisive.

I loved your laissez-faire position on the bronny james thread. 🙂  I can't remember the last OT thread that was divisive...
