jimmykc Posted September 28, 2017 Report Posted September 28, 2017 Spent a few minutes resting during yesterday's chilly day with my annual issue of Lindy's college basketball magazine. These are the few facts gleaned this year. 1. For the first time I can recall, NU was picked to finish dead last in the conference and no player was mentioned anywhere in the magazine other than on the one page allotted to us. Our article was written by Lindsey Willhite, a person I have never heard of, rather than the usual OWH writer. The only other place we were mentioned was for the November 16 game vs St. John's where it said Tim Miles had a chance to pick up a much needed victory. 2. St. John's backcourt was rated the 4th best in the nation. Mitch Richmond, the old K-State star is now coaching the guards according to head coach Chris Mullin. 3. Michigan State is rated the # 1 overall team and picked to win the NCAA. 4. Tum-tum Nairn's first name is Lourawls. Many years ago my spouse and I went to Lake Tahoe to see what it was like and were trapped in a casino during sudden blizzard conditions. We wandered into a lounge and found that we were the only people there other than the headliner so we got personally serenaded by....that's right, Mr. Lou Rawls aphilso1, BigTate, hhcmatt and 1 other 3 1 Quote
TourneyBound Posted September 28, 2017 Report Posted September 28, 2017 How is it possible for all of us to be so geeked about this year when everyone is projecting us to finish last or second to last.... Is it our rose colored glasses or what.?? Just seems very weird. Quote

Pretty easy - when you see the recruiting rankings we have built up on this team, with key parts becoming healthy or eligible - it's easy to be optimistic. But if you just see a team who lost starters to transfers and graduation, and young guys transferring also... or our guys we thought would be healthy aren't healthy... Well, you get it. Quote

dustystehl Posted September 28, 2017 Report Posted September 28, 2017 We were also picked to finish last in the Big Ten before the 2013-14 season... Quote

jimmykc Posted September 28, 2017 Author Report Posted September 28, 2017 Ahh, brings back old memories. Actually, I remember finding it a bit intimidating when he was singing directly to us and so we left after a couple of numbers...and then felt guilty about that. mwm89 and jayschool 1 1 Quote
Jacob Padilla Posted September 29, 2017 Report Posted September 29, 2017 Shamorie Ponds and Marcus LoVett are talented scorers, but they're both small and neither one is a particularly gifted distributor or defender. 4th best backcourt in the nation is incredibly generous. Quote
Handy Johnson Posted September 29, 2017 Report Posted September 29, 2017 Aside from the fact that it's straight up lazy journalism, I really wouldn't know how to react if we were picked something other than last... Quote
jimmykc Posted September 29, 2017 Author Report Posted September 29, 2017 As best I can tell, Willhite is a former journalist who now works in the PR dept. of a hockey franchise in Chicago. Send your resume to Lindy's next year Jacob. I know you could do a better job. Quote

Instead, they went 26-8 and were a 3 seed in the NCAA tourney. That's how it's possible for all of us to be so geeked about this year when everyone is projecting us to finish last or second to last. #historyrepeats? mwm89 1 Quote
Red Don Posted September 29, 2017 Report Posted September 29, 2017 I'm all for history repeating itself; as long as it doesn't repeat exactly (I'd rather see a different ending). colhusker 1 Quote

colhusker Posted October 2, 2017 Report Posted October 2, 2017 Finally got around to reading this thread, just could not get past the title, yes it takes very little. I have a gut feeling we will not finish last. Quote
HB Posted October 2, 2017 Report Posted October 2, 2017 Seems fitting in the week of Hugh Hefner's death that Jimmy would be talking about quickies in the sack with a magazine. Quote
49r Posted October 2, 2017 Report Posted October 2, 2017 41 Days to B1G Basketball: Blue Ribbon’s Big Ten Predictions Revealed Michigan State is once again at the top. https://www.btpowerhouse.com/2017/9/30/16389014/41-days-big-ten-basketball-blue-ribbon-predicts-michigan-state-spartans-conference-champs "There’s also a recurring theme with most predictions not seeing Nebraska or Rutgers escaping the basement of the Big Ten. That could prove problematic for Nebraska if that actually does happen. While it was debatable if Tim Miles was or wasn’t on the hot seat, with Nebraska now set to bring in a new athletic director, Miles needs results in a hurry. Even if he’s a fan favorite, the Cornhuskers haven’t had much to show the last several seasons in Lincoln and he could be out of a job if things don’t improve." Quote
brfrad Posted October 8, 2017 Report Posted October 8, 2017 I'm starting to wonder if we will be able to win a single game in conference. jayschool 1 Quote
