I went out and "google earthed" his hometown.  It is a beautiful location but it looks cold.  They have a Domino's Pizza, I kid you not.  I cannot pronounce the names of the other restaurants.  Point is, there may be a bit of a culture shock with this young man.

I was in Iceland a few years ago and saw a number of Domino's Pizza advertisements featuring the 'Noid (a common ad campaign here in the US back in the '80s).  The signature food of Iceland is hotdogs.  Seriously.  3/4s of the Icelandic population is in the Reykjavik area and the other side of island is only a few hours away.   I was there in November, and found it in the 40s-50s.  Tons of tourism there (probably its top revenue).  Icelandic Air figured out that it was about ~5-6 hours from both the US eastern seaboard and Europe.  People flying between the US and Europe will break up their travel with a 24 hour layover in Iceland.  Culture may not be as big of a deal as you may think.

One very interesting tidbit.  A good percentage of the population believes in fairies.

Well I am now officially sold.  This team needs a basketball fairy.  Please oh please let this fairy bring us an NCAA tourney win!

This is from Huskers.com:

Thorbjarnarson played for KR Reykjavik in the Icelandic League last year, averaging 10.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game for a team that went 26-8 and won the league championship in the top pro league in the country. He shot 53 percent from the field, including 38 percent from 3-point range last winter. His team has won the title in each of the past three seasons.

26-8. A team had Richard van Poelgeest on the roster the prior year.

26-8. A team had Thorir Thorbjarnarson prior to coming to Nebraska.

Hmmm.

  • hhcmatt changed the title to 2017 SG - Thorir Thorbjarnarson - LOI
