  1. Congrats to the Nebraska baseball team. Won the Big Ten tournament after losing their first game. The big question is how in the world was Josh Caron not on the all Big Ten conference team? Oops! Posted this and then realized we had the "other NU sports" board. Feel free to move this.

Ironic that Walton passes away the same year that "Conference of Champions" also goes away.

I'd imagine he's hanging with Jerry Garcia right now.

  6. If the ship gets taken down by apathy, Nebraska will be literally the last place to sink. I do think what you describe will happen in other places, but highly doubt it happens here. As a result, I’m guessing we’ll continue to see more improvement in sports across the board (we already are) and it will feed the fuel even more. Without NIL and now this, I think Nebraska was done for. Now fans and their pockets are literally competing with other fans’ pockets. We will likely win that battle 95% of the time. NIL, from a competitive standpoint, is the best thing that’s happened to Husker sports this century. We were dead in the water. Go constitution.

Never liked the guy's commentary. Didn't need to learn about indigenous trees during a basketball game. But sad news to hear. Pacific Coast basketball will miss a guy like him.

What an impressive run of five straight victories after that initial dud against the toxic-nuts, 15-2. The Huskers reeled off wins by the count of 6-2, 12-5, 4-2, 10-4, and 2-1. With the latter three wins occurring within 27 hours!! GBR!!!

This thread needs to stay. The other sports board doesn't get that many views. This Husker baseball team reflects what is going on in Husker athletics, especially basketball and football. The right head coaching hires were made in all 3 sports. You don't have to have "elite" talent at all positions: get the right athletes who have the right attitude, and things, more than likely, will look good at season's end. Everything is in place. We have the money, we have the coaches, we have the facilities and we have the right talent. I've got a feeling whatever regional the Huskers wind up in, we're playing in a Super Regional. GBR!

    Always interesting going back through some of these. Thought I’d do some Team/Avg Projected Finish/Actual Finish Iowa - 1.00 - 4 Indiana - 2.33 - 3 Maryland - 3.66 - 11 Nebraska - 4.33 - 2 Rutgers - 4.66 - 12 Michigan - 7.00 - 4 Michigan St - 7.33 - 9 Illinois - 7.66 - 1 Penn St - 8.00 - 7 Ohio St - 8.33 - 7 Purdue - 11.33 - 6 Minnesota - 11.66 - 9 Northwestern - 13.00 - 13 - Iowa, Indiana, and Nebraska were relatively in the same ballpark. Iowa was a unanimous #1 so their season is definitely disappointing. - Rutgers and Maryland both stunk with a capital S. - Illinois, Purdue, and Minnesota were the biggest risers compared to predictions. - Northwestern as a unanimous last wasn’t surprising. However they actually started the year 10-9 before finishing 8-25. Ouch! - Teams projected to make B1G Tournament that didn’t: Maryland, Rutgers, MSU - Teams that took their place: Penn St, Ohio St, Purdue

Doug Ingle, founding member and lead singer of Iron Butterfly passed yesterday. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was a classic. Of course, that 17+ minute song took up an entire side of the LP. There were decent songs on the other side. Most Anything You Want was pretty good. So, too, was Flowers and Beads. RIP.

The Turtles were one of the most fun groups of the late sixties. Today, their drummer, John Barbata, passed at the age of 79. He was also drummer for Jefferson Starship. He played drums on "Miracles" which is one of my favorite Jefferson Starship songs. He was given songwriting credits for the Turtles hit "Elenore". Looks like he's having fun. RIP!
