  1. From the Kazemi article: If I know TP -- I don't, but I did say hello to him and get a photo when I saw him and the rest of the team at the airport last December in route to Hawaii -- this is only going to serve to motivate him more. TP: "Oh, you want to take my college number? That's coo. I just took your paycheck, homey." For what it's worth, the guy was incredibly humble and nice. I think he even responded, "yes, sir!" when I asked if I could get a quick selfie with him. I met TP on 2 different occasions and he could NOT have been nicer. I always cringe when fans judge him. The guy went out of his way to take a picture with my son, and the sign the ball he had. When we said "Thanks" to him he said "You are very welcome sir." Then went on to give my son another high five. TP will go down as one of my favorite Huskers of all time. I know some fans want to judge him because he wears his emotions on his sleeves, but I can tell you, their is no fan in this State pulling for TP to make an NBA roster more than I am.

I wonder how McVeigh would have rated if he was a stateside kid. Maybe close to the 150-ish range??? Easily. Okay, so let's count him as #7 then.

  3. We're recruiting nothing but big men with our last roster spot. We are compensating by recruiting length at most every other position though. With the right group of players we can turn our lack of 6'9"+ players into a competitive advantage. At the end of the day, though, you need guys who can flat-out ball. Whatever their other shortcomings might be, the two commits we have for this class can do that. Horne you can say is undersized and I cannot disagree. And maybe he could be more explosive as well. But the kid is a player. He's beefy, he's skilled, and he has touch. And range. With his frame, he could easily add 20 pounds or more and be more explosive at a higher weight just because of his build. I've already seen in video how he knows how to use his body to gain space. And he seems to be a good passer with good floor vision. He's a player. He gets it done. Roby is physically the opposite. He's svelte, extremely long, and, for his size, has some explosiveness. For his size. But he's also a baller. Both of them are. Whereas Horne is a kid who can bang a bit inside and spot up from distance, Roby is a slasher who can take people off the dribble and get to the rim. I think these two will really complement each other. I'm almost more excited about the '16 class than I was the '15 class. Almost. Put these two classes together and we've really got something.

  4. A Memphis news source provides the following information about Jerrell and Jeriah in an item dated July 25, 2015: While Jerrell was a banger inside . . . , Jeriah is more of a skilled big man who can carry his team offensively as a low-post scoring threat or faceup shooter. “I was more of an inside player. Jeriah’s game is just more finesse. He can do a lot more than I can do. A lot more,” Jerrell said. “When we started out and I was coaching him, I had him at point guard.” Said Jeriah: “When we were down in Louisiana, I always played as a guard. Like, ball in my hands so I can facilitate. When I came to (Overland Park) Kansas, I was bigger than everyone else and everybody all of a sudden wanted to throw me on the block. I’d catch the ball and bring it up court and hear, ‘Give it to the guard! Give it to the guard!’ and I’m thinking, ‘I am the guard.’ ”

Agree on McVeigh being a top-150 U.S. recruit if he played here. His basketball IQ and passing skills are truly outstanding. He may be the most underrated player we signed this year (though Michael Jacobson has also impressed me). Jack was a steal as far as I'm concerned.

  6. We don't need a 7-footer, but we need a player or two who can reliably guard the types of 4s and 5s we're going to see week in and week out in the B1G. You have to have a chess piece to match up defensively against guys like Diamond Stone, A.J. Hammons, etc., not to mention others who, while they may be shorter, are still in the 240-255-lb. weight range. A big part of this is the weight issue. Our roster is very light. You need guys with enough physical mass to bang inside against 250-lb. PFs and centers. It's very hard for a 220-lb. guy to do that week after week.

  9. Great get. This kid has a very unique skillset--great ballskills, outside range, and a big frame. I'm getting the feeling Miles is done with centers, and he might be right on for doing it. The prospect of Jeriah and Ed in the same frontcourt is pretty darned imposing. Plus, size doesn't have to equate to one 7' player. Being able to switch the on-ball defender is just as important in today's pick and roll defense. Miles continues to do an incredbile job with recruiting. Our young talent stacks up against anyone.

  14. I'm going to modify this OP somewhat and go 9 deep for this year's team. I'm going to trade Fuller for McVeigh and add Jacobson behind Hammond on this year's team. And to balance things out, I'll add Abraham behind Pitchford and Smith on last year's team. I'll make the changes in the next post and, in the post-Spain trip environment, do you feel any differently about the comparison between this year's rotation and last year's?

  15. I know we're recruiting bigs, but what constitutes a "big"? 6'9"? What about 6'7" with a 7' wingspan like Morrow? Is he a big? What about 6'8" Jacobsen? Is he a big? These are genuine questions--not being contentious. I'm just wondering if the definition has changed. I with you on the weight. I'm just not sure height (i.e. a traditional center) is as important as it used to be given the speed of the game. Keep in mind, I continue to be a Hammond guy too... I think he'll be just fine as our functional center for years to come.

  16. Dimes, I wasn't disagreeing with you at all. I'm furthering the point and the discussion by saying, basically, whatever you get, they need to be players. Players make plays. So I'm saying, whether they're 6'7" or 6'11", we need to be able to field a team of guys who can make plays.

  20. We need to keep recruiting as if we have more than one open spot. I have heard that kids that do not get to play as much as they wish, sometimes transfer...the horror!!! Sooo, with that as a possibility we keep hammering for a true post player and a terrific shooter.

  23. Not a problem here. My main problem are all the people (none on here that I know of) that are constantly complaining about the Arena's lack of financial success. Most of that lack happens during Basketball season when its next to impossible to schedule non Husker related events. The only income the arena makes is off of food sales...and from that they have to pay all their bills. There is absolutely nothing that can be done as they have to kneel down and kiss the feet of the University. I believe unless they changed the contract...the Arena would take in most all of the beer advertisement $ and sales of the beer as part of their concessions income. The U would get very little if any. It would increase the revenue of the arena...and have very little impact on University income.

  24. “Nebraska's focus on player development, solid academics and challenging athletic environment,” said Jeriah Horne on why he picked the Cornhuskers... “Coach Miles gives freshman an opportunity,” said Horne. “Although there is a transition from high school to college, I expect my work ethic, my size, my ability to pass and my versatility to help me make the most of my opportunities as a freshman.” http://ny2lasports.c...?articleid=3143

  27. You have to wonder how much of a role these new facilities have played in helping us get our foot in the door. I know Miles has leveraged them to the hilt. But new facilities aren't what's sitting up in the gym at De La Salle HS watching a top 150 kid work out. New facilities might help us close, but pounding the pavement is what seems to be helping us open. I used to think that as well about the facilities but then realized that Connie Yori was able to build a winning program with the exact same facilities. Then it make me realize that it was more about the Coach and coaching staff building relationships and working hard as opposed to the facilities. I think you are correct Norm that the facilities have had a role but think it comes done to Miles and staff just working harder to make this program successful. I think the previous coaches wanted to win as well but didn't see the effort on the recruiting front that this coaching staff is giving. A lot of it could be identifying talent early. Look at Roby. We got on him when he was an un-rated, unknown. Took a long time before people on this board even started to warm up on him. Now, he's a Rivals 4-star. We got in on Horne when he was an unknown. Now, he's vaulted into the Rivals 150. Doc, OTOH, brought in guys like Alex Chapman (Sorry, Alex) who was also unknown but never blew up because he wasn't that good. It helps a ton when you can spot talent and get in on the under-the-radar guys before they blow up. Additionally, this staff brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and they're not afraid to try anything. They realize Nebraska doesn't get much -- if any -- attention at a national level, and they're willing to use more unconventional means to get our name out there. Like it or not, social media plays a large role in any high school kid's life. Miles & Co. has recognized this and ran with it. For instance, when a potential recruit can open up their Snapchat and see 100 seconds of photos/videos of the Huskerhoops account modeling their new jerseys and sneakers, running through performance testing, playing some tunes in the shower through the locker iPads, etc. it makes an impression. You can reach a lot of players that way without much effort, regardless of whether it's an evaluation period or not. We weren't the first to have a team Snapchat account, but we certainly weren't the last, either. And we utilize it fairly well…better than a lot of other teams I've checked-out. Some programs have the proper prestige and that sells itself to the recruits. Miles recognizes he doesn't have that, so he uses every weapon at his disposal.

  28. He says, "49r, I believe this is killing me." As the smile ran away from his face "Well I'm sure that Horne could be a major star If he would commit to this place." And the Wildcats are practicing politics As the Blue Demons slowly get stoned Yes, they're sharing a drink they call lonliness But it's better than drinkin' at CLink Jeriah Horne you're a Husker, man You're one of us tonight Well we're all in the mood for some basketball And you got us feeling alright It's a pretty good crowd for a Saturday And Jeriah gives us all a smile 'Cause he knows that it's him we've been comin' to see To forget about life for a while And the band they sound like a carnival And we still can't buy any beer We just sit in the stands and watch win after win And say, "Horne, aren't you glad you came here?" Oh, la la la, di da da La la, di da da da dum Jeriah Horne you're a Husker, man You're one of us tonight Well we're all in the mood for some basketball And you got us feeling alright

  32. I watched some drills and 5 on 5 the team has had over the last 2 weeks when I am able to sneak in as a blog media guy. Please dont get caught up in all the hype of the new freshman that everyone puffs them up like they did Webster 2 years ago as he is using Nebraska as a stepping stone to the NBA. lets be realistic. Ed Morrow is gifted athletically and will be a very good player as he develops but currently all he can do is dunk the ball offensively. OK in Bigten basketball how many dunks can you really get during a game, maybe one or two tops. He has trouble driving to the basket under control handling the basketball on the dribble and he has alot and I mean alot of work to shoot the ball and his form needs work too.. He air ball bad twice from around 15 feet. The Scouting report I can already see is stay off him and make him shoot. Glynn Watson. He is so small and thin. He has alot of work to do in the weight room. Parker pushes him in any direction he wants and digs in his pockets alot. being physical enough at the point will be the issue with playing time. McVeigh is another Aussie needing to get used to the physical play of D1 college basketball. Taller than Webster but very similar in alot of ways that I saw in Tai before. Jacobson I think is the most ready of the freshman to be able to play at the 5 position as he is not afraid of banging around under the basket. So far he is out playing Hammonds. The players that stood out the most and looked ready to go are. 1 Parker 2 White 3 Shields 4 Fuller 5 Jacobson

  33. Many junior high romances have come to a similar end: She wanted to be courted and pursued to stroke her ego; he simply thought she wasn't interested and didn't realize she was just playing hard to get. In the end, she winds up with another dude and he realizes she wasn't worth the bother anyway. Too high-maintenance and needed to get over herself. Whew. #dodgedabullet
