Hypnotist: You are all very good players Team: We are all very good players. Hypnotist: You will beat Michigan State. Team: We will beat Michigan State. Hypnotist: You will give 110 percent. Team: That's impossible, no one can give more than 100 percent. By definition that's the most any one can give.

  2. The official watch party in Hampton is at Conlee's. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast. Food and drink specials all day long. Take that 60 minute, money saving drive from Lincoln and have a great time.

    Where Dreams Happen

I'm so ready for Michigan State tomorrow! We might be setting ourselves up for disappointment, but what's the point of being a fan if you can't dream?

  5. One thing I'd like to add about the attendance - take it with an extraordinary grain of salt. You aren't even comparing apples to orange. It's apples to bagged salad. Some schools, such as Purdue, sell a season seat license for all winter sports and they are allowed to count those as 'tickets sold' across gymnastics, wrestling and women's basketball, rather there is a human being in those seats or not. When Purdue reports 8,000, there are probably closer to 3,000 there. And they have loud, loyal fans, but their attendance reports are not actual people. Last night Michigan reported just under 2,000. I'd say that was fairly accurate. Michigan State - don't even get me started. Same thing as Purdue, except they multiply their attendance by a factor of about 3.5. Wisconsin's is also not even close to actual people in the stands. If you'll remember in the Big 12, Texas Tech started selling seat licenses and they'd announce 8,000 when there were about 2,000 there. Women's Basketball attendance figures are like the two weekly polls: interesting to talk about and they mean absolutely nothing. Nebraska's attendance, since it's a city-owned arena, is people through the turnstiles. And it's almost impossible to cheat attendance as the lower bowl is 8,000. If there isn't anyone above the lower bowl or there are any empty seats in the lower bowl, it's below 8,000. When you talk to staff from opposing teams, it's very clear everyone in the league knows Nebraska has the highest attendance and best crowds. But it's a recruiting nugget for coaches to tell a kid, "Come to _______ University as we lead the league in attendance!" They just have to hope they don't do a visit or go to a game somewhere else. I enjoy reading the great discussions on here! Thanks for being great fans! Go Big RED!!!! Matt

  6. If you're talking quality of assistant (which can, and often today, DOES impact the quality of recruit), Miles also has something like twice the budget for salaries that Doc did, so there's that. In my diabolical mind, sometimes I wonder what would happen if we could find a time machine and transport Miles to the pre-practice facility Devaney or transport year-2 Doc to the arena. Time has a way of glossing over some faults while bringing others out, and there's a certain optimism that goes with newness. The saying that only time will tell is a cliche for a reason. I like Miles a lot. I also liked Doc a lot. But I think a lot of us were pretty pleased with the Year 2 version of Doc (20-12 record that year, with wins over a handful of ranked teams), just as much as we are with the Year 2 version of Miles, and as much as I'm hoping to see us project upward more, it's still a little too early to make any sweeping judgments yet.

  7. Not sure if everyone's heard or seen the story about Miles' sit down with Benny this summer. He basically told Benny, "Look, you're the #3 PG on this team. With you not being able to do much for us offensively, we're not going to have any minutes for you..." It would have been easy for Benny to swallow his pride and find another school, but he didn't. He took it at as a challenge and found other ways to help the team. The kid legitimately loves being here. Where most would've given up, he didn't. That's the type of kid that I want on this basketball team, regardless of role.

    30 Point Games

So I thought that Shields and Petteway might have set a precedent by both recording a 30 point game in the same year. But after pouring through the media guide, I see that it has happened 4 other seasons. So, would anyone out there care to guess the 4 other times 2 different players have had a 30 point game in the same season? Here's another 30 point stat- Most 30 point games in a season: Dave Hoppen 1984-85 (6) Alecs Maric 2006-07 (4) Tyronne Lue 1997-98 (4) Eric Piatkowski 1993-94 (4) Andre Smith 1979-80 (4) Marvin Stewart 1970-71 (3) I'm a little shocked Jerry Fort isn't on that list. He did have 5 30 point games over 4 years.

    Tie Breakers

Per Big 10 website: IV. In case of a tie for any place finish in the regular-season standings, the following tie-breaking procedure shall be followed in order to seed teams in the tournament bracket: A. Two-team tie: 1. Results of head-to-head competition during the regular-season. {EACH TEAM WON ONCE} 2. Each team's record vs. the team occupying the highest position in the final regular-season standings (or in the case of a tie for the championship, the next highest position in the regular-season standings), continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage. {MSU LOST TO PENN STATE IN ONLY MEETING- WE HAVENT PLAYED PENN STATE YET..... WE WOULD WIN TIE BREAKER ON THIS STIPULATION IF WE BEAT PSU} a. When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's record against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to their own tie-breaking procedures), rather than the performance against the individual tied teams. b. When comparing records against a single team or a group of teams, the higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against the team or group are unequal (i.e., 2-0 is better than 3-1, but 2-0 is not better than 1-0). 3. Won-loss percentage of all Division I opponents. 4. Coin toss conducted by the Commissioner or designee.

We have to play loose and with no fear, not tentative. Attack the rim, let it fly, see what happens. A good start is critical in this game. We can't play catch up against them all day.

    30 Point Games

At second glance, we are both wrong. I categorized one in the wrong year. But in addition to the ones you mention above, the media guide - p. 136 shows: Don Weber - Kansas St (30) 12/28/53 Bill Johnson - Missouri (34) 1/18/54 Boone and Lue both had 30 in the same game against Oregon in the Maui Classic in Hawaii - we scored over 100, of course.

  19. You can't hamstring your team. Miles has already done that the last two years leaving open one scholarship. You cannot do that going forward and have to find guys that can either complement the current players or be the future stars that wait in the wings. You don't see any other team in the country going a few years in a row not filling a spot just because you want to wait for the right guy to fill a spot. If you don't find great players in the spring you find some senior transfers that at least provide some depth.

  20. better than the wisdom from one Richard Belding, "shoot your hopes and dreams". It caused AC to hold onto the ball and not take the final shot because he was confused.

  21. I think the reason is you cant really sag off him because it creates open space on the floor. If you have scorers like Pitchford, Gallegos, and Petteway that can hit the 3 coming off a screen you can put Benny out there to create the open space and all you need is that screen and boom open shots. Last year you only had one consistent 3 point scorer so you could sag more but you cannot do that as much. Thats my take anyway.

  22. That is the kind of players hearts we need to have. We need good athletes, ballers, what ever you want to call them. But we need them to have this kind of heart. And Terran's work ethic.

  25. Is the premise of this poll that a 10-8 Nebraska finish will cause a coach to lose votes to Miles and thus alter the shape of the COTY race? Otherwise it's inclusion in this topic is somewhat confusing. FWIW, I think Miles has a better chance than Motta of winning this thing.

  26. Its a great time for both fan bases. Lets be real, Message Board Fans tend to dicect and pick at the smallest details, they tend to spew opinions that generally do not reflect the feelings of the majority of that teams fanbase. What is beyond opinion and rooted in facts is; Lincoln and Omaha are seeing some of the best basketball in the country from a RPI perspective. I admit I like watching B1G/ B East teams more than MVC teams but I also watch a lot of WSU games on ESPN3. They are really the only MVC team worth watching this year. Its going to be a great dance this year but the road to get there for Nebraska residents has 16 top 100 teams in B1G/B East! In fact, all 22 teams from both conf's are in the top 150 (that's unreal). The B1G/B East are two of the top 4 conferences overall. The Margin between the two is slim, slimmer than many here would want to admit anyway (especially to CU fans). Obvioulsly, there is no denying that this has been upgraded over the B1G/MVC days for hoops fans in our area (half the MVC is outside the top 150). Are Creighton message board fans "big timing" their former MVC mates??? I dont know. The MVC was a much better conf with Creighton in it, that is for sure. It was then and would be now a top 10 conf with them in it. Really, one could argue they are still a very good MVC team that could have been doing this all along. They and WSU didn't/don't get to many top 100 teams to sign home and home series with them. What CU is doing to the B East now, with those teams having to make that trip to Omaha, just confirms that feeling to me. There is nothing wrong with MVC ball, as many major confs find out when they draw one in the dance, its just not as good as the B1G/B East night in, night out.

  27. why fix a good thing? does Alabama fix Roll Tide? or does KU fix rock chalk..Husker Power, is a much a great tradition as the tunnel walk, GO BIG RED chants. Plus its simple, easy, and the it breaks even for crowd support people can pick up quick, and it isnt to much of a hassle.

  28. Agree on all of this. Husker Power would be the logical choice because the arena knows about it and has already participated in it. Start it immediately after the flag corps walks off after the National Anthem.

  30. Sure, but at least we have the honesty to sick back and say "Creighton has a really damn good team," even though we hate them. They can't even acknowledge that we play some semblance of the game they call "basketball"...every time we step on the court it's just wise-cracks about how terrible we are and setting basketball back 30 years...blah blah. I'm convinced that if we made the NCAA Tournament they would chalk it up to the Big Ten being a horrible conference. Oh wait, they're already saying it. Even though every team has a winning record...the league is #2 in the RPI...has 5 teams in the Top 30... Whatever. At least I can acknowledge Creighton has a great basketball team.

  32. spot on. And i could see trey starting if Tai doesn't improve by next year. I love the way we talk about real people who sweat & bleed like they're disposable like Klenex. Take one, use it up, discard it and look, there's another one to use up. I understand boards need things to talk about & us fans can't develope the personal relationships that players & coaches do, & sometimes typed words can be misconstrued, but man can some posts sound cold.
